Abstract

This study aims to determine the process of making oil palm empty fruit bunch briquettes through variations in tapioca flour as an alternative material, through the stages of research which include briquette making, namely drying, carbonization and printing. Briquette characterization includes proximate tests, namely water content, ash content, calorific value and densit. From the results of the proximate test at a ratio of 91:9, it shows that the quality of oil palm empty fruit bunch biochar briquettes with a moisture content of 7.07%, ash content of 8.769%, calorific value of 5850.2 cal/g and density of 0.55 g/cm3. The utilization of oil palm empty fruit bunches not only reduces waste, but also provides a solution for sustainable energy needs.

Abstract

Program pemberdayaan masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalkan penggunaan lahan yang dikelola PKK di Desa Dutohe Barat melalui budidaya cabai yang didukung oleh pupuk organik yang terbuat dari limbah kotoran sapi. Saat ini, kotoran sapi di desa tersebut masih kurang dimanfaatkan dan seringkali menjadi masalah lingkungan, meskipun mengandung nutrisi penting yang dapat meningkatkan kesuburan tanah dan meningkatkan produktivitas pertanian jika diolah dengan benar. Program ini berfokus pada pelatihan anggota PKK untuk memproduksi pupuk organik dari limbah kotoran sapi dan memberikan bantuan teknis untuk budidaya cabai yang ramah lingkungan. Pendekatan terpadu ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan produktivitas lahan PKK, memperkuat ketahanan pangan lokal, dan menciptakan peluang bagi kegiatan ekonomi kreatif berbasis masyarakat, khususnya bagi kelompok perempuan. Inisiatif ini mempromosikan sistem pertanian berkelanjutan yang berlandaskan prinsip ekonomi sirkular, di mana limbah ternak diubah menjadi produk bernilai tambah. Selain meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat, program ini berkontribusi pada Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDG) utama, termasuk SDG 2 (Nol Kelaparan), SDG 8 (Pekerjaan Layak dan Pertumbuhan Ekonomi), SDG 12 (Konsumsi dan Produksi yang Bertanggung Jawab), dan SDG 13 (Aksi Iklim). Program ini tidak hanya mengatasi kebutuhan pangan tetapi juga menyediakan solusi inovatif untuk pengelolaan lingkungan dan mendukung pengembangan ekonomi kreatif tingkat desa. Hasil yang diharapkan meliputi lahan produktif yang dikelola PKK, pupuk organik produksi lokal, dokumentasi kegiatan dalam bentuk video, tautan penyebaran di YouTube, dan publikasi jurnal di ABDIMAS . Program ini mengikuti beberapa langkah metodologis: pengembangan peta jalan kegiatan, observasi lapangan, desain program, identifikasi kelompok sasaran, perencanaan implementasi, indikator keberhasilan, dan evaluasi. Implementasi meliputi observasi lapangan awal, pelatihan produksi pupuk, aplikasi budidaya cabai, pemantauan pertumbuhan tanaman, dan pembentukan kelompok usaha perempuan PKK yang berfokus pada pertanian berbasis cabai.

Abstract

Abstract: The Jamu or herbal medicine were adulterated with chemical drugs in the last twenty years. One of the chemical drugs that are commonly added to herbal medicine is acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is generally considered an analgesic-antipyretic drug. The research aims to identify the content of paracetamol and its amount added to the jamu. This study consisted of 6 jamu or herbal medicine samples with different brands. The TLC method conducted the qualitative analysis using the mobile phase n-hexane: ethyl acetate (1:1). Three positive samples containing acetaminophen were obtained: D, E, and F. The three positive samples containing acetaminophen were calculated using the LCMS method. Quantitative analysis was conducted with LCMS using a reversed-phase with a mobile phase of acetonitrile: water (15%>: 85%> v/v) at a flow rate of 0.2 mL/min and an injection volume of 5 µL, it was obtained the levels of acetaminophen in sample D as much as  0.16 g/2 g of sample, in sample E of 0.63 g/7 g of sample, and sample F of 0.56 g/7 g of sample. Although the acetaminophen content in herbal medicine is relatively small, according to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of Indonesia No. 007 of 2012, traditional medicine or herbal medicine should not contain synthetic chemicals.Abstrak: Dalam dua puluh tahun terakhir, banyak jamu yang dipalsukan dengan obat-obatan kimia. Salah satu obat kimia yang biasa ditambahkan pada jamu adalah asetaminofen. Acetaminophen umumnya dianggap sebagai obat analgesik-antipiretik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan parasetamol dan jumlah yang ditambahkan pada jamu. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari 6 sampel jamu dengan merek yang berbeda. Analisis kualitatif dilakukan dengan metode KLT menggunakan fase gerak n-heksana: etil asetat (1:1). Diperoleh tiga sampel positif mengandung asetaminofen, yaitu sampel D, E, dan F. Tiga sampel positif mengandung asetaminofen dihitung menggunakan metode LCMS. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan dengan LCMS menggunakan fase terbalik dengan fase gerak asetonitril: air (15%>:85%> v/v) pada laju alir 0,2 mL/menit dan volume injeksi 5 µL. Diperoleh kadar asetaminofen pada sampel D sebanyak 0,16 g/2 g sampel, pada sampel E sebesar 0,63 g/7 g sampel, dan pada sampel F sebesar 0,56 g/7 g sampel. Meskipun kandungan asetaminofen dalam jamu relatif sedikit, namun menurut Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan RI No. 007 Tahun 2012, obat tradisional atau jamu tidak boleh mengandung bahan kimia sintetik.

Abstract

Redox reactions are a type of chemical material that contains many concepts and rules that are recognized as difficult to comprehend and comprehend and often give rise to misconceptions in students. This research aims to find out the misconceptions that occur among students in understanding redox reaction material and find out the source of the causes of students' misconceptions. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative. This research was carried out in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The subjects of this research were class XII MIPA students at SMAN 1 Limboto with a total sample of 181 people. Identification of misconceptions is carried out using a five-tier multiple-choice test instrument. Student answers from the test are then analyzed and categorized based on the student's level of conception. The research results show that the average percentage of students' conceptions on redox reaction material is 28.6% understanding the concept, 48.2% misconceptions, and 23.2% not understanding the concept. Apart from that, the highest cause of misconceptions comes from personal thoughts at 91.1%.

Abstract

Ikan selar bentong (Selar crumenophthalmus) merupakan salah satu ikan pelagis kecil yang banyak terdapat di perairan Gorontalo dan memiliki nilai ekonomis penting. Hasil perikanan samping berupa tulang ikan masih jarang dimanfaatkan, meskipun kandungan proteinnya cukup tinggi dan berpotensi menghasilkan produk bernilai fungsional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkarakterisasi hidrolisat protein tulang ikan selar bentong serta mengaktifkan aktivitas antioksidannya. Hidrolisis dilakukan menggunakan enzim papain dengan konsentrasi 2%, 4%, dan 6% selama 4 jam pada kondisi optimal. Parameter yang dianalisis meliputi kadar protein, derajat hidrolisis, uji kualitatif asam amino, serta aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode ABTS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar protein tulang ikan meningkat dari 10,47% pada kondisi mentah menjadi 33,19% pada konsentrasi enzim 2%, 35,08% pada konsentrasi 4%, dan 37,35% pada konsentrasi 6%. Nilai derajat hidrolisis juga meningkat dengan penambahan enzim, dengan nilai tertinggi 83,16% pada konsentrasi 6%. Aktivitas antioksidan terbaik ditunjukkan pada konsentrasi enzim 6% dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 0,98 mg/mL, mendekati vitamin C (0,12 mg/mL). Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah hidrolisat protein tulang ikan selar bentong berpotensi sebagai sumber antioksidan alami yang dapat diterapkan dalam pengembangan fungsional pangan maupun suplemen kesehatan. Abstract

Students’ higher-order thinking skills in chemistry remain low due to the dominance of conventional teaching methods. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the CUPS (Conceptual Understanding Procedures) learning model on students’ higher-order thinking skills in the topic of basic laws of chemistry. Using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group, two classes of 28 students each from SMAN 1 Suwawa were selected as the experimental (CUPS-based learning) and control (conventional learning) groups. Data were analyzed using independent sample t-test. Results showed a greater improvement in the experimental class (pretest = 61, posttest = 79) compared to the control class (pretest = 39, posttest = 64). A significant difference was found between the groups (p = 0.001 < 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. These findings indicate that the CUPS learning model positively enhances students’ higher-order thinking skills, suggesting its potential for improving chemistry education

Abstract

Thermochemistry remains one of the most challenging topics in senior high school chemistry because students are required to understand abstract concepts, perform quantitative reasoning, and connect chemical phenomena with real-life contexts. However, students’ analytical thinking skills in thermochemistry are often still limited, particularly in differentiating, organizing, and attributing information during problem-solving activities. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Problem Based Learning model on improving Grade XI students’ analytical thinking skills in thermochemistry. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Kabila during the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, involving 49 students divided into an experimental class taught using Problem Based Learning and a control class taught using conventional instruction. Data were collected using a nine-item essay test and analyzed through normality, homogeneity, independent-samples t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The independent-samples t-test indicated a significant difference between the two classes, with tcount = 4.055 exceeding ttable = 1.678. The N-Gain results also showed that the experimental class achieved higher improvement across all analytical thinking indicators than the control class. These findings imply that Problem Based Learning is an effective instructional model for strengthening students’ analytical thinking skills in thermochemistry.

Abstract

Students' scientific communication skills in electrochemistry have not developed optimally because learning tends to emphasize cognitive aspects. This study aims to examine the effect of applying the Prediction, Observation, Explanation, Elaboration, Write, and Evaluation (POE2WE) learning model based on Ethno-STEM on scientific communication skills in electrochemistry. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design involving 62 students from Suwawa 1 Public High School who were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The research instruments consisted of a test in the form of seven essay questions and non-test instruments to assess scientific communication skills during the learning process. The Mann-Whitney test results showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value < 0.001, indicating a significant effect of the application of the Ethno-STEM-based POE2WE learning model on students' scientific communication skills. Based on the N-Gain calculation results, the scientific writing indicator was in the high category, while the information representation indicator was in the moderate category in the experimental group. In addition, the non-test assessment results showed an increase in students' scientific communication skills in three of the four indicators observed in each learning meeting.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang pembuatan dan karakterisasi karbon aktif ampas tebu (KAAT) menggunakan metode aktivasi fisik dan aktivasi kimia. Digunakan variasi suhu karbonasi 4500C dan 6500C dan aktivator H3PO4 10%, FeCl3 10%dan KMnO4 10%. Hasil karakterisasi derajat kristanilitas dan ukuran Kristal karbon aktif menggunakan Instrumen pembacaan hasil Difragtogram XRD. Variasi aktivator dan variasi suhu dilakukan tujuannya untuk menghasilkan produk arangaktif yang memiliki permukaan spesifik, porositas, kerapatan dan ketahanan mekanis yangtinggi.Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan derajat kristalinitas sampel secara keseluruhan cenderung meningkat berdasarkan kenaikan suhu.

Abstract

Pohe Village, located in Hulonthalangi District, Gorontalo City, is a coastal area with significant maritime potential that serves as the primary source of livelihood for local communities, particularly fishermen. However, the sustainability of coastal livelihoods is challenged by economic, environmental, climate, and social issues. This study aimed to identify the current conditions of the coastal community and explore strategies for maritime-based economic empowerment to support sustainable development. A descriptive quantitative approach supported by qualitative data was employed through questionnaires, interviews, and seawater quality assessments conducted at four sampling locations. A total of 30 respondents were selected using incidental sampling techniques. The findings revealed that the community's economic condition remains vulnerable due to fluctuating fish prices, seasonal changes, and declining fish catches. Environmental assessment indicated that coastal water quality is generally good, characterized by clear and odorless water, neutral to slightly alkaline pH levels, and adequate dissolved oxygen concentrations. Nevertheless, coastal waste accumulation remains a major environmental concern. The community has also begun to experience the impacts of climate change, including unpredictable weather patterns, increased wave intensity, and flooding that transports waste and sediment into residential areas. In contrast, social conditions were relatively favorable, supported by access to healthcare services, basic facilities, and government assistance programs. Therefore, coastal economic empowerment should be implemented through an integrated approach involving the strengthening of fishermen’s capacities, sustainable coastal environmental management, and supportive government policies. Such efforts are expected to enhance community welfare while ensuring the sustainability of maritime resources and coastal ecosystem.
