Abstract

Food additives (BTP) are substances commonly used in processing food ingredients such as coloring, flavoring, developers, sweeteners, and preservatives. The purpose of the addition is to provide flavor, aroma, attractive appearance and food ingredients that are not easily damaged and last longer. Borax is one of the food additives that can improve the elasticity and good texture of food. Consumption of food containing borax continuously will have a negative impact on health. Therefore, borax is prohibited from being used as food additives. There are many studies that showed detection of borax uses extracts from natural product. Detection of borax can use hibiscus flower extract, turmeric, and infused water of peel of dragon fruit. This counseling aims to provide education detection of borax by using inexpensive materials, easy, and simple equipment. The results showed the participants were very enthusiastic about the subject that presented and received information about detection of borax in food in an easy, inexpensive and simple way.

Abstract

Boborongan (Hyptis brevipes) is empirically used in ethnomedicine containing of essential oil which it is applied to inhibit the growth of the Staphyllococcus aureus. Cream preparation along with oil in water emulsion is often applied due to easiness and compliance particulary for  cosmetic and aesthetic use. This study aimed to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration of cream based essential oil of Hyptis brevipes against Staphylococcus aureus. Essential oil from Hyptis brevipes was isolated using the water vapor distillation method. Cream based essential oil of Hyptis brevipes of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4%, respectively. Antibacterial activity study was carried out using a well diffusion method. Antibacterial inhibition was obtained by measuring the clear zone on the medium. The results of the antibacterial inhibition test showed that the cream based Hyptis brevipes essential oil along with concentration of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4% showed antibacterial activity with the diameter of inhibition zone are 5.3 mm; 5.1 mm; and 6 mm, respectively. Therefore, it prooved that the essential oil of Hyptis brevipes was a promising candidate for antibacterial substance

Abstract

Infection is one of the health problems that is often experienced by the community, among others, infectious diseases that can be caused by Staphylococcus epidermidis and acute diarrheal diseases that can be caused by Escherichia coli bacteria. One of the plants that has antibacterial properties is Miana leaf (Coleus atropurpureus L.) because they contain active compositions containing essential oils, steroids, tannins, flavonoids, and alkaloids. This aims of this research were to study antibacterial activity and minimum concentration of ethanol extract of Miana leaf (Coleus atropurpureus L.) that gives antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli. This type of research is an experimental research, using the method of well diffusion and diameter of the inhibition zone. The different concentrations of Miana leaf ethanol extract were used at 3%, 6%, and 9%. Tests were carried out to observe the presence or absence of inhibitory zones of Miana leaf (Coleus atropurpureus L.) extracts against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli after 24 hours of incubation. The analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results showed that the ethanol extracts of Miana leaf (Coleus atropurpureus L.) with concentrations of 3%, 6%, and 9% are able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis. The minimum concentration of ethanol extract of Miana leaf which shows antibacterial activity against test bacteria is 3%.

Abstract

Minyak biji kelor (Moringa oleifera) mengandung senyawa fenolik yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang dapat melawan bahaya toksik serta oksidasi radikal bebas. Masker gel peel-off merupakan sediaan kosmetik yang digunakan untuk merawat wajah dan memiliki keunggulan yaitu mudah dalam penggunaan dan dapat dibersihkan dengan cara melepaskan film dari kulit wajah sekitar 15-30 menit pemakaian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah minyak biji kelor dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk masker gel peel-off melalui evaluasi sifat fisik masker gel peel-off minyak biji kelor. Konsentrasi minyak biji kelor yang digunakan yaitu 7,5%, 10% dan 12,5%. Pengujian yang dilakukan terhadap sediaan masker gel peel-off yang dibuat meliputi uji homogenitas, organoleptis, pH, daya mengering dan uji tipe emulsi. Hasil penelitian terhadap sifat fisik masker gel menunjukkan bahwa minyak biji kelor dengan dapat diformulasikan dalam sediaan masker gel peel-off peel-off minyak biji kelor dan memiliki tipe emulsi minyak dalam air (m/a).

Abstract

Prevalensi penyakit asam urat di Indonesia cukup tinggi, yaitu sebesar 7,3 %. Penderita asam urat umumnya mencari pengobatan alternatif, salah satunya adalah herba Seledri. Seledri adalah salah satu tanaman yang berpotensi untuk menyembuhkan berbagai penyakit, salah satunya adalah menurunkan kadar asam urat. Seledri mengandung berbagai senyawa kimia seperti flavonoid, saponin dan tanin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak etanol herba Seledri dalam menurunkan kadar asam urat pada tikus putih jantan dan menentukan dosis ekstrak etanol herba Seledri yang efektif dalam menurunkan kadar asam urat pada tikus putih jantan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental dengan rancangan penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap. Sampel penelitian menggunakan 25 ekor tikus putih jantan yang dibagi 5 kelompok perlakuan, tiap kelompok terdiri dari 5 ekor. Model hewan dibuat hiperurisemia menggunakan penginduksi kalium bromat dengan dosis 111 mg/kgBB. Kelompok I (kontrol negatif) diberi suspensi Na CMC 0,5 %. Kelompok II (kontrol positif) diberi suspensi Allopurinol 5,4 mg/kgBB. Kelompok III, IV, dan V diberi ekstrak etanol herba Seledri masing-masing dengan dosis 25 mg/kgBB, 50 mg/kgBB, dan 75 mg/kgBB. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol herba Seledri (Apium graveolens L.) pada dosis 25 mg/kgBB, 50 mg mg/kgBB, dan 75 mg/kgBB memiliki aktivitas antihiperurisemia terhadap tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus).

Abstract

Secara invitro kulit pisang kepok (Musa acuminate x Musa balbisiana (ABB)cv) mengandung senyawa flavonoid sehingga memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sebesar IC50 60.50 melalui metode ABTS (2,2 azinobis (3-etilbenzotiazolin)-6-asam sulfonat) yang dapat melawan bahaya toksik serta mengurangi terjadinya kerusakan pada sel kulit wajah yang diakibatkan oleh proses oksidasi radikal bebas. Madu mengandung vitamin C yang berkhasiat sebagai antioksidan sehingga sering digunakan untuk perawatan kulit. Masker gel peel-off merupakan sediaan kosmetik yang digunakan untuk merawat wajah dan memiliki keunggulan yaitu mudah dalam penggunakaan dan dapat dibersihkan dengan cara melepaskan lapisan film dari kulit wajah sekitar 15-30 menit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ekstrak kulit pisang kepok dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk masker gel peel-off dan untuk mengetahui evaluasi sifat fisik masker menggunakan humektan madu. Proses maserasi menggunakan etanol 96% kemudian dilanjutkan pada perbedaan konsentrasi humektan madu 15%, 20% dan 25%. Pengujian yang dilakukan terhadap sediaan masker gel peel-off yang dibuat meliputi uji organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, daya mengering, daya sebar, daya lekat dan uji kesukaan terhadap 10 orang sukarelawan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit pisang kepok dengan perbedaan konsentrasi humektan madu dapat diformulasikan dalam sediaan masker gel peel-off, Masker gel peel-off ekstrak kulit pisang kepok memiliki penampilan fisik, pH, waktu kering, daya sebar yang baik sesuai dengan persyaratan yang ada dan untuk formulasi terbaik sediaan masker ekstrak kulit pisang kepok dalam bentuk gel peel-off berdasarkan uji kesukaan adalah pada formulasi 3 dengan konsentrasi humektan 25%.

Abstract

Tubuh memiliki sejumlah mekanisme untuk meredam radikal bebas dengan cara memproduksi antioksidan. Antioksidan dapat diperoleh dari luar tubuh (eksogenus) misalnya melalui makanan. Beras merah (Oryza rufipogon) memiliki kandungan zat aktif yang dapat berperan sebagai antioksidan dalam menangkal radikal bebas dalam tubuh. Pigmen antosianin (bentuk glikon dari antosianidin) dapat berperan sebagai antioksidan, antimikroba, antiviral, anti-inflamasi, fotoreseptor, sekaligus antialergi. Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui aktivitas kandungan antioksidan pada ekstrak etanol beras merah. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental. Ekstrak beras merah dibuat dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut alkohol 70%. Ekstrak etanol beras merah dibuat dalam seri konsentrasi (10, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600) ppm. Pengukuran aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol beras merah dilakukan dengan menggunakan sistem DPPH. Pengukuran absorbansi dilakukan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis pada panjang gelombang 516 nm. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan nilai IC50 untuk antioksidan ekstrak beras merah sebesar 410,98 ppm. Aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak beras merah tergolong ke dalam antioksidan sangat lemah.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays) is a widely cultivated crop in Gorontalo and has high economic value as well as an important role in food security. Fertilization is one of the key factors that influence the productivity of corn plants. This research aims to determine the combination of NPK fertilizer doses granulated with Biochar-Chitosan in enhancing the growth and productivity of corn plants, as well as its impact on the quality of total N soil content. The study was conducted by planting corn, applying fertilizer, and observing its growth through measurements of plant height, leaf length, stem diameter, cob weight with husk, and cob weight without husk. The observational data were then analyzed descriptively, summarizing or classifying the data set to provide an overview of the data. Additionally, the analysis of soil N-total content was conducted before and after the application of fertilizers. The research results show that the combination of NPK-Biochar fertilizer doses has a significant impact on the growth and productivity of corn plants. The 7.5-gram NPK-Biochar fertilizer dose yielded the best results in increasing plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and cob weight with and without husks compared to other doses. Soil chemical property analysis also indicates that the application of NPK-Biochar fertilizer has a positive impact on the quality of the soil's total nitrogen content.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the potential of Moringa oleifera secondary metabolites as inhibitors of the α-glucosidase enzyme using an in silico approach. The study employed molecular docking methods. The structure of the α-glucosidase enzyme was obtained from the Protein Data Bank (PDB ID: 3TOP), while the structures of Moringa oleifera secondary metabolites were sourced from the literature. Docking simulations were conducted using AutoDock Vina, and interaction results were analyzed using Discovery Studio. The analyzed parameters included binding affinity values and the interactions between ligands and active site residues of the enzyme. The results showed that several secondary metabolites of Moringa oleifera, such as lutein and 4-(α-L-rhamnopyranosyloxy)benzyl glucosinolate, exhibited strong binding affinity values: -10.93 kcal/mol for lutein and -10.27 kcal/mol for 4-(α-L-rhamnopyranosyloxy)benzyl glucosinolate. Benzyl glucosinolate enhanced the stability of the ligand-protein complex, demonstrating its potential as a more effective α-glucosidase inhibitor compared to acarbose, the currently used antidiabetic drug. Based on molecular docking analysis, the secondary metabolites of Moringa oleifera indicate great potential for further development as antidiabetic agents.

Abstract

Strengthening fundamental concepts in organic chemistry is crucial for students' academic and industrial success. This activity aimed to deepen students' understanding of hydrocarbons, including alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes, along with their physical and chemical properties. The activity also introduced key reactions such as combustion and substitution. Through this, students learned to identify molecular structures, nomenclature, and chemical properties of hydrocarbon compounds. The teaching methods used included lectures, simulations, group discussions, laboratory practices, and assessments through tests and quizzes. Discussions helped students clarify challenging concepts like the structural differences among hydrocarbons and their associated reactions. Emphasis was placed on laboratory work to ensure that students not only grasped theoretical concepts but also gained practical skills in handling chemicals, laboratory equipment, and following safety protocols. Results from the activity showed that this approach effectively enhanced both understanding and technical abilities. Students observed the unique properties and reactivity of hydrocarbons in controlled laboratory settings, which also encouraged the development of analytical and critical thinking skills. This initiative strengthened their foundation in organic chemistry and prepared them for future challenges in the chemical industry. The combination of hands-on practices and in-depth discussions proved effective in improving students' comprehension of hydrocarbons and their chemical behavior. Furthermore, it laid the groundwork for further learning about hydrocarbon derivatives and their diverse industrial applications.
