Abstract

The quality of a good learning environment will affect the effectiveness of a learning model in achieving several competencies in science learning. This research aimed to investigate students' perceptions of the learning environment towards the implementation of Socioscientific Inquiry Based Learning (SSIBL) model on chemical kinetics material. The sample in this study involved 36 students who took Basic Chemistry I course. The data were collected by administering the WIHIC Questionnaire (What is Happening in This Classroom?) consisting of 50 questions. In the WIHIC questionnaire that has been distributed there are 7 indicators that will determine the quality of the learning environment created including student closeness, lecturer support, involvement, investigation, task orientation, collaboration, and student equality. The  questionnaire data were analyzed using the SPPS program by inferring the mean and standard deviation that had been distributed to 69 respondents. The results of the analysis showed that overall the indicators measured were in the very good category. The results of the One way ANOVA analysis state that there is no significant differences in the learning environment of students based on their school origin or university entrance route. This shows that the SSIBL model is a learning alternative that can created a good quality learning environment for all levels of student ability based on school origin and university line.

Abstract

Mathematical connection is a crucial skill for students, as it reduces the need to memorize numerous concepts and procedures independently. This study explores the variance in mathematical connection abilities among students with different intelligence types, specifically intrapersonal and interpersonal, in the context of solving algebraic problems on the AKM (Minimum Competency Assessment) test. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology, this research focused on four students from class VIII-B at an Islamic Junior High School in Blitar. Data were gathered through questionnaires assessing intrapersonal and interpersonal intelligence, followed by the AKM Algebra test and interviews with selected students—two from each intelligence category. The findings reveal that students with interpersonal intelligence demonstrated superior mathematical connection abilities compared to their intrapersonal counterparts. Individuals with interpersonal intelligence met all indicators of mathematical connections, whereas intrapersonal intelligence subjects varied, with some meeting only one or two. This discrepancy underscores that students of the same intelligence type can exhibit differing levels of mathematical connection abilities, influenced by various factors such as mathematical skills, development of geometric thinking, and reasoning abilities.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to examine the reading literacy and numeracy skills of Grade VII Junior High School students. This study employs a quantitative descriptive approach. The participants of this study consisted of 35 pupils. Explore methodologies for gathering research data through the utilisation of tests. The research instrument employed was a standardised assessment sheet designed to measure proficiency in reading literacy and numeracy skills. Both the reading literacy exam and the numeracy ability test encompass three cognitive levels. The employed data analysis technique involves calculating the mean value, conducting a regression test, and determining the coefficient of determination. The study findings indicate that the mean reading proficiency surpasses numeracy, however both remain suboptimal. These figures are demonstrated by the mean score of 60.46 on the reading exam and 33.71 on the numeracy test. There is a favourable association between literacy and numeracy ability, which is somewhat interpreted. The proficiency in reading and writing has a significant impact on one's capacity to perform mathematical calculations, accounting for a substantial proportion of 16.8%. The remaining portion is influenced by several other elements. The findings of this study suggest that teachers should incorporate AKM questions into their teaching practices to help students develop a habit of reading and comprehending questions. It is anticipated that this approach will lead to a substantial improvement in students' literacy and numeracy scores.

Abstract

Language is an important symbol of social identity in multicultural societies. Language plays a very important role in individuals expressing themselves in their own culture or in other people's cultures. A problem among teenagers today is that the use of non-standard language varieties can sometimes have hidden prestige in society's speech. In multicultural societies, language has a very important role for individuals to express themselves in their own culture or in other people's cultures. The phenomenon that occurs is the background problem in this research, which examines whether there is a relationship between social interaction and language attitudes in multiethnic teenagers in Pontianak. The sample for this research was teenagers from six ethnic minorities in Pontianak: Malay, Dayak, Chinese, Madurese, Javanese, and Bugis. The research data was processed using non-parametric statistics with Spearman rank correlation. The results of the research show that, in general, there is a relationship between social interaction and language attitudes in multiethnic teenagers, but if we look at each ethnicity, the relationship between social interaction and language attitudes only occurs in the five ethnicities that Malay, Dayak, Chinese, Madurese, and Javanese ethnicities only, and these results apply to groups of male adolescents of all ethnicities. Even though the existing correlation results only show very weak correlation strength. Apart from that, for the Bugis ethnic group, there is no correlation between social interaction and language attitudes. This also occurs in multiethnic groups of female adolescents.
