Abstract

Mathematics is an essential subject that shapes the logical thinking of elementary school students. Difficulties in understanding abstract concepts often trigger math anxiety, a worry that reduces learning outcomes. The low mathematical literacy in Indonesia (PISA 2022) is strongly assumed to be related to the high level of students’ anxiety. This study aimed to examine the relationship between math anxiety and learning outcomes of fourth-grade students, as a basis for developing more effective strategies. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Anxiety was measured using the Likert-based AMAS questionnaire, and outcomes were from daily test scores. Spearman Rank correlation analysis indicated a strong negative correlation: the higher the anxiety, the lower the cognitive achievement. Significant negative correlations were found in Task 1 (r = -0.878, p = 0.002), Task 2 (r = -0.988, p = 0.000), Task 3 (r = -0.809, p = 0.008), and the exam score (r = -0.988, p = 0.000). The contribution of anxiety to the variation in learning outcomes ranged from 65.44% to 97.61%, with the strongest influence observed in Task 2 and the mathematics exam score.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of technology intervention on elementary school students' learning motivation and numeracy skills using a quantitative quasi-experimental design. Fifty students were randomly assigned to an experimental group (technology-based learning) and a control group (conventional instruction). Statistical analysis revealed significant improvements in the experimental group: mean numeracy scores of 84.12 84.12 (vs. 75.48 75.48 in control, p < 0.05) and mean motivation scores of 88.56 88.56—more than double that of the control group. The key novelty of this research is the first empirical evidence confirming a strong causal link between technology intervention and simultaneous enhancements in motivation and numeracy among Indonesian elementary students, offering an innovative model for technology-integrated teaching in primary education contexts

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the role of teachers as models and mentors (modeling and scaffolding) in the internalization of honesty values among lower-grade elementary school students. This phenomenon is crucial because the low consistency of students’ honest behavior requires a character education approach grounded in exemplarity and moral experience. The study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, focusing on teachers’ lived experiences cultivating honesty in the classroom. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and reflective documentation involving six lower-grade teachers from three public elementary schools in Toroh District, Grobogan Regency. Data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) through open, thematic, and reflective coding. The findings reveal four central themes: (1) honesty as a teacher’s moral identity, (2) modeling as a value role model, (3) moral scaffolding as a process of value internalization, and (4) school culture as a character ecosystem. Teachers act as moral agents who instill honesty through exemplarity and social interaction. The success of character education depends on the consistency of teachers’ behavior and the support of the school’s moral culture. This study emphasizes the importance of reflective training for teachers and collaboration between schools and families in fostering sustainable honesty values.
