This journal is for professionals, academics, researchers, and scholars whose empirical work focuses on curriculum, teaching methodology, learning activity, teaching media, learning approaches, learning achievement, character education, evaluation in education and the relationship between Islam and education. Authors are welcomed to submit their manuscripts for publication. Al-Tadib: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Kependidikan publishes articles on education in any area of study twice a year, every June and December. Abstract

The necessity of learning through engagement using digital comic in the EFL context becomes increasingly challenging for EFL pre-service teachers. This study investigates the experiences of 47 EFL pre-service teachers from an Islamic higher education institution in Kendari, Indonesia, in designing digital comics as a learning platform. Using a case study approach, data were collected through reflective journals and a focused group discussion after a 5-week design process. Findings show most participants held positive attitudes toward digital comics, gaining skills in using applications and websites for learning. However, they faced challenges related to technology, self-regulation, design, and pedagogy. The study highlights the effectiveness of consultation sessions and recommends incorporating digital comics into foreign language teaching media courses. This study suggests the integration of technology-oriented platforms like digital comics across all educational levels to enhance engagement and move beyond traditional teaching materials.

Abstract

This quantitative research examines the influence of psychological factors such as interest, motivation, and learning independence on students' mathematics learning outcomes during online learning, using the causal research design. Data were analyzed using generalized linear models. The population consisted of all Grade VIII students at a public junior high school at Konawe Selatan, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, totaling 273 students. A sample of 73 students was selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The results showed that only the variable of interest in learning mathematics had a significant effect on students' mathematics learning outcomes at a significance level of 5%. The findings indicate that as students' interest in learning increases, their mathematics learning outcomes improve by 0.56 points. In contrast, learning motivation and learning independence did not significantly affect students’ mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

One of the challenges facing universities today is the presence of Generation Z as campus residents. Generation Z has many unique traits that they need to anticipate in order to achieve their learning goals. This study aims to examine Gen Z students' perceptions and expectations of ideal learning. This study uses a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. There were 20 students from different campuses in Serang City, Banten Province who were selected as participants using purposive sampling technique. Data had been gathered the usage of semi-dependent interviews after which analyzed the usage of thematic evaluation techniques. The results show that Gen Z defines the ideal way of learning in the sense that: (1) learning is enjoyable and not boring, (2) from the perspective of an ideal lecturers, (3) theory and practice parity, and (4) a combination of offline and online learning. Furthermore, students in the future will (1) make the most of technology, (2) adopt hybrid learning, (3) use social media as a learning medium, and (4) apply learning to teamwork and projects.

Abstract

This autoethnographic study explores how participation in an international student exchange program in the Philippines influenced an Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) student’s confidence in speaking English. Drawing from the first author’s personal experiences during a semester at Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, the study reflects on the emotional, social, and academic challenges encountered, and the growth that resulted from immersion in an English-speaking environment. Through systematic self-reflection and narrative inquiry, the research reveals that supportive intercultural interactions, exposure to authentic language use, and constructive feedback from mentors played a significant role in enhancing the author’s communicative confidence. The findings highlight the transformative potential of international exchange programs in fostering self-efficacy and language development among EFL learners.

Abstract

This study systematically reviews research on implementing the Cambridge curriculum in Indonesian institutions, focusing on mathematics learning. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) of 18 articles, results highlight qualitative methods, predominantly descriptive and evaluative approaches, with case studies comprising 28%. Data collection frequently involves observations, interviews, documentation, and Google Form questionnaires. Participants mainly include educators, students, guardians, and principals. Most research targets junior high schools, with less attention to elementary and senior levels. The Cambridge curriculum promotes active learning, critical thinking, and global perspectives, often integrated with Indonesia's national curriculum. Benefits include enhanced English proficiency, global awareness, and modern teaching methods. However, challenges arise from language barriers and limited English-speaking environments. The review identifies key trends and gaps, providing recommendations for future research and practical application.

Abstract

This narrative literature review explores the progress and challenges of promoting cross-cultural understanding (CCU) among Indonesian students through English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction. In response to the increasing demands of globalization and Indonesia’s rich multicultural landscape, the government has incorporated CCU into the national curriculum, notably the Kurikulum Merdeka. The review highlights the integration of local cultural elements in textbooks and classroom practices and emphasizes EFL teachers’ pivotal roles in fostering intercultural awareness. However, the study reveals persistent obstacles, including overemphasis on local cultures, skepticism toward foreign cultural content, and teachers’ static views of culture. These factors hinder students’ global cultural competence. The review concludes with implications for policymakers, educators, and researchers, advocating for balanced cultural exposure and professional development.

Abstract

This article aims to identify the strategies of environmental management at an Adiwiyata school in South East Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data in this case study was gathered through interview, observation, and artefacts. Data analysis indicates that the school has its own strategy in gaining the status of Adiwiyata school. The school designed short, middle, and long-term plan for the implementation of participative-based activity for school environmental management. The best practices at school include programs such as Friday in faith, Saturday cleaning, self-development, extracurricular and innovative work for students in terms of educational management. The school also invited parents and companies to get involved in participative-teaching program dealing with innovative activities and entrepreneurship. This study suggests schools to implement best practice-based strategy by encouraging active participation of both school community and stakeholders in school environmental management.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk manajemen pengelolaan lembaga pendidikan di salah satu madrasah aliyah di Kota Kendari dalam meningkatkan kompetensi siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi lapangan, wawancara, dan studi dokumen. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa bentuk perencanaan yang dilaksanakan sekolah ini dalam meningkatkan kompetensi siswa  dengan melibatkan seluruh stakeholde mulai dari kepala madrasah, wakil kepala madrasah, guru, dan tenaga kependidikan. Bentuk perencanaan tersebut disusun dalam 3 program utama yaitu kurikuler, ekstrakulikuler, dan bording school. Bentuk pengorganisasian di sekolah ini melalui penyediaan sarana dan prasarana yang memadai, peningkatan kompetensi tenaga pendidik melalui berbagai kegiatan workshop, pelatihan, dan lain-lain, serta pemberian peluang kepada siswa untuk mengikuti berbagai kegiatan baik akademik dan non-akademik. Peningkatan kompetensi siswa dilakukan secara disiplin dan konsisten melalui 3 program utama, yaitu pembelajaran formal (kurikuler), kegiatan ekstrakurikuler, dan kegiatan keasramaan. Pengawasan dilaksanakan secara kontinu oleh kepala madrasah, wakil kepala madrasah, dan penanggungjaawab kegiatan sebagai tim kontrol. Selain itu, reward dan punishman juga diberlakukan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji implementasi pembelajaran tematik oleh mahasiswa PGMI di madrasah ibtidayah negeri di Kota Kendari, dengan fokus pada dua aspek, yaitu bagaimana pembelajaran ini dilaksanakan, dan kebutuhan mereka terkait materi dan metode pembelajaran tematik. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan mengumpulkan data primer dan sekunder melalui observasi dan angket. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa proses pembelajaran tematik di madrasah ibtidayah negeri telah sesuai standar, meliputi pemetaan tema, penyusunan silabus, RPP, dan evaluasi. Kebutuhan mahasiswa meliputi perencanaan pembelajaran, penyusunan perangkat pembelajaran (silabus, RPP, buku ajar), dan metode pengajaran seperti ceramah, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung, serta aspek penilaian tertulis dan praktik.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the feasibility of learning media based on macromedia flash integrated Al-Qur'an verses that were developed in MAN 1 Konawe students. This research is a type of research and development (research and development) with a development design according to Borg & Gall. The trial participants were 21 students of class X MAN 1 Konawe, the data collection instrument used a questionnaire, interviews, test questions, and observation sheets. Data analysis and product development trials consist of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that: Integrated Flash Macromedia-Based Physics Learning Media with Qur'anic Verses at the developed MAN 1 Konawe school can be declared to meet the aspects of validity, reliability that is good and feasible to use.
