Abstract

Critical thinking and creative thinking skills are needed to improve the quality and competitive human resources. Therefore, the application of appropriate learning models is expected to stimulate students' critical thinking and creative thinking skills. This research aims to improve critical thinking and creative thinking skill scores using the ASICC learning model. This type of research is classroom action research which is carried out in 2 cycles, with 3 meetings in each cycle. Data on students' critical thinking and creative thinking skills were collected using essay tests on science learning materials. Data analysis was carried out by comparing the N-gain scores in cycle 1 and cycle 2 for students' critical thinking and creative thinking skills. The results of the research revealed that there was an increase that occurred in cycle 2, namely 5.6% in the aspects of moderate critical thinking skills and high creative thinking, as well as in the aspects of critical thinking skills and high creative thinking by 5.6%. Meanwhile, in the previous cycle, these two aspects did not have a high category. Another result found from this research is that students who have low critical thinking skills do not necessarily have low creative thinking skills. This is because students who have low critical thinking skills may have moderate creative thinking skills or vice versa. Thus, the application of the ASICC learning model is effective in improving the scores of critical thinking skills and creative thinking skills of students at Junior High School 5 Kertosono.

Abstract

Learning difficulties are a common issue faced by students, with stress being a significant contributing factor.  One psychological treatment that has been shown to effectively reduce stress is Inquiry-Based Stress Reduction (IBSR). The objective of this study is to integrate IBSR into a discovery learning strategy in Biology in the classroom, with the aim of increasing students' learning motivation and knowledge construction while reducing their learning difficulties and cognitive anxiety. This is quasi-experimental research that used a post-test non-equivalent control group design. The study involved 72 11th-grade science students from two different classes at one of the public high schools in Bandung City. One class, consisting of 36 students, received IBSR treatment, while the other class, also consisting of 36 students, did not. Both classes used a discovery learning framework for teaching. Data on motivation, learning difficulties, and cognitive anxiety were collected using a rating scale questionnaire with eight scales. Students' ability to construct knowledge was measured using the German Cognitive Load (GCL) instrument in the form of a written test with indicators taken from Mayer's cognitive taxonomy (2002) in the realm of understanding. The study found that incorporating IBSR techniques into learning strategies for the immune system material can reduce student stress and improve learning performance, motivation, and knowledge construction (GCL), while also decreasing learning difficulties and cognitive anxiety.

Abstract

E-modules can facilitate student understanding of complex biological concepts, including biodiversity, but their effectiveness also depends on individual student abilities. One significant factor influencing this success is the students' intelligence quotient, which affects how they process and comprehend complex information. This research aims to determine the relationship between intelligence quotient with mastery of biodiversity material using e-modules. The method used in this research is a quantitative descriptive method with correlation studies. The sample was taken from as many as 177 students from SMAN in Tangerang City was collected using multistage random sampling technique. To assess these skills, a test instrument in the form of multiple-choice questions is used. The prerequisite test shows that the data is normally distributed, the data is homogeneous, the data is linear, the data is free from symptoms of heteroscedasticity, the data is not multicollinearity, and the data is free from symptoms of autocorrelation. Through testing the hypothesis, the equation Ŷ = 41.268 + 0.580X1 is obtained. The correlation coefficient obtained was 0.881, which means there is a very strong relationship. . Based on this research, it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between intelligence quotient, reading comprehension ability, and mastery of biodiversity material using e-modules.

Abstract

The teaching of science communication skills at the high school level can be effectively accomplished through lessons that are oriented not only towards the development of cognitive skills, but also towards the acquisition of hands-on communication skills. The present study employs an experimental research design to investigate the impact of NHT-type cooperative learning on students' science communication skills. This study employs an experimental design comprising an class and a control class. The study population comprised students at X MIPA UPT SMAN 2 The X MIPA 3 class was designated as the experimental class, while the X MIPA 7 class served as the control class. Sampling was conducted using a randomised system. The data employed in this study were derived from two sources: primary data collected via the science communication skills rubric and secondary data obtained through observation of student and teacher activities. The data collection instrument was a science communication skills observation sheet that had previously been tested for validity and reability. The data were analysed using the Friedman test, which revealed significant differences in students' science communication skills between the control and experimental classes at each meeting (p < 0.05). Similarly, the Wilcoxon test demonstrated a significant difference between the control and experimental classes at each meeting (p < 0.05). The findings of this study suggest that further research should be conducted at a larger scale to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the rubric of science communication skills.
