Abstract

Character education is a crucial component in shaping students’ personalities, particularly at the junior secondary school level. Effective character development requires school leadership that is not individualistic but collaborative between principals and teachers. This study aims to analyze the collaborative leadership of principals and teachers in fostering students’ character development at SMP Al-Ma’rufiyah Tempuran Magelang. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of the principal, teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using an interactive data analysis model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation to ensure data validity. The results indicate that collaborative leadership is reflected in the active involvement of principals and teachers in planning, implementing, and evaluating character education programs. The principal acts as a facilitator, policy leader, and role model, while teachers integrate character values into learning activities, habituation programs, and extracurricular activities. Collaborative leadership contributes positively to strengthening school culture, enhancing teacher professionalism, and improving students’ discipline, responsibility, and cooperation. This study concludes that collaborative leadership is an effective approach to character education in junior secondary schools. Abstract

This research examines character education efforts to improve behavior of fifth-grade students at SDN 05 Kepala Hilalang Padang Pariaman. Using qualitative descriptive methods, data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving teachers and students. Initial observations revealed serious behavioral problems including school fights, truancy, smoking, bullying, drug use, and extortion among students—behaviors contradicting religious norms and Indonesian law. Findings indicate character education effectively develops positive attitudes like mutual respect and empathy, creating individuals prepared to contribute to peaceful social environments. However, implementation faces challenges including insufficient parental guidance and unsupportive residential environments. These obstacles can be overcome through collaboration between schools, parents, and community awareness. The research demonstrates character education's effectiveness when implemented consistently and comprehensively, requiring systematic planning, execution, and evaluation to build strong student character and improve behavior.

Abstract

This study discussed the writing skills of MTs (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) students in recount texts with the assistance of the Grammarly application. Writing was a complex skill, and students often encountered difficulties in grammar, vocabulary, and idea organization. Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) technology such as Grammarly could provide quick and accurate feedback, thus potentially aiding the learning process. However, most previous studies had only focused on university or vocational school contexts, while the use of Grammarly for junior high school/MTs students in writing recount texts remained understudied. Therefore, this research aimed to fill that gap. The objectives of this study were to identify the types of errors in recount texts written by ninth-grade students at MTs Cenrana and to understand Grammarly's role in enhancing students' motivation in English writing. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, involving 20 students as subjects for text error analysis, with 10 of them receiving Grammarly treatment and a motivation questionnaire. The findings of the study demonstrated the effectiveness of Grammarly in improving students' recount text writing skills, evidenced by a significant increase in the average score from 41.5 to 80.0 (p=0.004) and a dominant reduction in word errors (40%), sentence structure errors (35%), and spelling and punctuation errors (25%), while student motivation also greatly improved 80% were in the high category due to instant feedback that boosted interest, confidence, independent revision, and tense consistency. This led to the conclusion that Grammarly was effective as both a correction tool and a motivational trigger, with recommendations for its integration into learning and further research to examine long-term impacts and premium features of Grammarly.

Abstract

Pancasila Education learning in elementary schools still faces challenges in developing students’ creativity optimally. One effort that can be undertaken is the implementation of innovative and integrated learning approaches. This article aims to examine the application of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach as a learning innovation in Pancasila Education and its impact on enhancing students’ creativity. This study employed Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles involving sixth-grade students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Yaqin Simpang Sungai Duren. Students’ creativity was analyzed based on indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration, and redefinition. Research data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the STEM approach was able to gradually improve students’ creativity. Students’ creativity increased from the less creative category at the initial stage to the fairly creative category in the first cycle and reached the creative category in the second cycle. The implementation of the STEM approach encouraged students to actively engage in learning activities, express ideas, collaborate with peers, and solve problems contextually. These findings confirm that the STEM approach can be used as an alternative learning innovation in Pancasila Education to enhance students’ creativity at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Malay cultural values contained in the myths of the Penyengat Island community. As an element of oral literature, myths not only function as traditional stories but also as a tool for passing on Malay cultural values that reflect the Malay community's perspective on life. The approach used in this study is qualitative with a descriptive research type. The data used are myth narratives that developed in the Penyengat Island community, which were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques were carried out through the steps of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study indicate that myths on Penyengat Island contain Malay cultural values, such as religiosity, environmental utilization, mutual assistance, advice, compassion, harmony, wisdom, honesty, and persistence. These values reflect the interaction between humans with God, nature, others, and themselves. Therefore, myths not only function as cultural heritage but also as a medium for shaping the character and life guidelines of the Malay community. It is hoped that this research can contribute to efforts to preserve oral literature and increase the younger generation's understanding of local cultural values.
