Abstract

The government continues to strive to improve the quality of education through various policies and breakthroughs aimed at realizing the educational goals outlined in the 2013 curriculum. Character education, particularly discipline, is an important aspect of the learning process in elementary schools as the initial level of formal education. Discipline is not only about obeying rules, but also about the ability to manage oneself consistently in thinking, behaving, and acting. Effective classroom management plays a strategic role in fostering student discipline and creating a conducive learning environment. As classroom managers, teachers are required to be able to design, implement, and monitor learning conditions to maintain focus on learning objectives. Therefore, effective classroom management strategies are an important factor in fostering discipline in elementary school students. The purpose of this study was to analyze classroom management strategy planning in fostering discipline, analyze teacher strategy management in fostering discipline in students, and analyze supporting and inhibiting factors in classroom management strategies in fostering discipline in students. This research method used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings of this study indicate that teachers implement classroom planning systematically by establishing conducive learning. The implementation of classroom management strategies refers to six principles: warmth and enthusiasm, providing challenges, learning variations, flexibility, emphasizing positive aspects, and instilling self-discipline. Supporting factors include principal support, adequate facilities, parental cooperation, responsive student characteristics, an attractive reward system, teacher consistency, school culture, and professional training. Inhibiting factors include differences in family backgrounds, external environmental influences, and a lack of consistency on the part of some parents.

Abstract

Vocational education is required to produce competent and work-ready graduates, so the availability of adequate practicum facilities and infrastructure is the main key. This study aims to analyze the level of suitability of practicum facilities and infrastructure for Light Vehicle Engineering Expertise Competence (TKR) at SMK Negeri 2 Pandeglang. This analysis refers to three main standards, namely Permendikbud Number 34 of 2018, the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) Level II in the automotive sector, and the application of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) principles. The study used a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were obtained through a four-point Likert scale questionnaire, observation, and documentation, then deepened with qualitative data through interviews with productive teachers and workshop heads. The results showed that the level of suitability of practicum facilities reached 72% and practicum infrastructure was 73.21%, which is included in the fairlyappropriate category. However, significant limitations remain in the availability of modern technology-based practical tools, the ratio of tools to the number of students, the layout of the workshop space, and the suboptimal implementation of K3, particularly regarding the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety signs. These findings indicate that the TKR practical facilities and infrastructure at SMK Negeri 2 Pandeglang do not fully meet national standards and work competency requirements.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of learning novel writing skills, the obstacles faced by students, and the solutions implemented by teachers in overcoming difficulties in writing novels for grade XII students of SMA Kemala Bhayangkari 1, Kubu Raya Regency. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies. The research subjects included Indonesian language teachers and grade XII students. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the process of learning to write novels is carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. Teachers deliver material about the elements and structure of novels, provide examples, and guide students in developing story ideas based on personal experiences. However, learning is still dominated by lecture methods so that active student participation is not optimal. The main obstacles faced by students include difficulty in developing story ideas, low vocabulary mastery, weak development of plot and characterization, and low writing motivation. In addition, limited variations in learning methods and media also contribute to the low quality of student writing. The teacher provided solutions including encouragement and motivation, intensive guidance, relevant novel examples, gradual writing exercises, and utilizing students' personal experiences as sources of story ideas. These efforts were deemed effective in helping students understand the novel writing process and increasing their writing creativity. This research is expected to serve as a reference for teachers in developing more effective, creative, and meaningful novel writing lessons.

Abstract

Students’ qirā’ah jahrīyah proficiency in Grade VII at MTs Al-Mashri Pangkalan Balai remains low due to learning practices that rely heavily on conventional methods without the support of audio-visual media, resulting in insufficient accuracy in pronunciation, vowel length, intonation, and reading fluency, and ultimately falling below the minimum competency standards. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of using three-dimensional animation videos based on local wisdom in improving students’ qirā’ah jahrīyah skills. This research employed a mixed-method approach with a pretest–posttest design, in which qualitative data were collected through observations and interviews, while quantitative data were obtained through pre-tests and post-tests, with the sample selected using purposive sampling. The results show a significant improvement in students’ reading performance after the implementation of the 3D animated video, as indicated by the increase in the post-test mean score of 85.32 compared to the pre-test mean score of 63.72. The normality test confirmed that the data were normally distributed with a significance value greater than 0.05, while the t-test revealed a significant difference between students’ abilities before and after the treatment. Additionally, the N-Gain score fell into the moderate to high category, indicating effective improvement in learning outcomes. Thus, the use of three-dimensional animation videos based on local wisdom has a positive and effective impact on enhancing the qirā’ah jahrīyah skills of Grade VII students at MTs Al-Mashri Pangkalan Balai.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the massive use of artificial intelligence, specifically ChatGPT, among students. Although offering efficiency, concerns arise regarding its impact on students' belief in their own capabilities (self-efficacy). This study aims to measure the influence of ChatGPT usage on the self-efficacy of students in the Library and Information Science Program at Universitas Negeri Padang. This is a quantitative descriptive study with a population of 91 students from the class of 2021, and a sample of 75 respondents selected using simple random sampling. Data analysis used simple linear regression. The results showed a positive and significant influence of ChatGPT usage on self-efficacy with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and t-count (5.566) > t-table (1.665). The contribution of influence (R Square) is 29.8%, while 70.2% is influenced by other factors. It is concluded that appropriate use of ChatGPT can support the increase of students' self-confidence.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the semiotic meanings contained in the tepuk tepung tawar ritual performed during the birth of a baby in East Sedanau Village, Bunguran Batubi District, Natuna Regency. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method using an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The analysis is further interpreted using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory, focusing on three types of signs: icons, indices, and symbols. The results show that the tepuk tepung tawar ritual contains various icons such as the use of mirrors and combing gestures, indices such as hair cutting and the application of tepung tawar water that indicate hopes for safety and well-being, and symbols such as black cloth, sugar, asam kandis, and salt, which represent protection, sweetness of life, resilience, and purification. These findings indicate that the ritual is not merely ceremonial but functions as a cultural system of meaning that reflects religious, social, and philosophical values within the Malay community of Natuna.

Abstract

Students of grade XII of MAN 1 Medan still have difficulty in critiquing information about figures, especially in assessing the accuracy of data, the author's point of view, and the credibility of sources. The teaching materials used previously were textual and teacher-centered so they did not optimally support higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). This study aims to develop teaching materials for the skills of critiquing information about figures based on Kahoot using the ADDIE development model. The research method used is research and development (R&D) involving Indonesian language teachers and grade XII students as trial subjects. The validity of the product was assessed by material experts and media experts. The validation results showed a very valid category with a very feasible category. Thus, the interactive teaching materials based on Kahoot developed through the ADDIE model are proven to be valid and effective in improving the skills of critiquing information about figures in grade XII students of MAN 1 Medan.

Abstract

This research examines character education efforts to improve behavior of fifth-grade students at SDN 05 Kepala Hilalang Padang Pariaman. Using qualitative descriptive methods, data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation involving teachers and students. Initial observations revealed serious behavioral problems including school fights, truancy, smoking, bullying, drug use, and extortion among students—behaviors contradicting religious norms and Indonesian law. Findings indicate character education effectively develops positive attitudes like mutual respect and empathy, creating individuals prepared to contribute to peaceful social environments. However, implementation faces challenges including insufficient parental guidance and unsupportive residential environments. These obstacles can be overcome through collaboration between schools, parents, and community awareness. The research demonstrates character education's effectiveness when implemented consistently and comprehensively, requiring systematic planning, execution, and evaluation to build strong student character and improve behavior.
