Abstract

Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning in elementary schools requires active student engagement, as the subject matter is closely related to real-life experiences. However, IPAS instruction in Grade V at SDN Sukamanah 2 indicates low levels of student participation. This study aims to describe the condition of student participation in IPAS learning and to identify the need for developing more participatory instructional practices through a preliminary study. The research employed a qualitative-descriptive approach with two primary data sources: literature review and field study. The field study was conducted through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with the Grade V teacher and several students. The results of classroom observations revealed that the learning process was still predominantly teacher-centered, student involvement in discussions and question-and-answer sessions was limited, most students appeared passive, rarely asked questions, and showed low enthusiasm during the lesson. Two-way interaction between teacher and students had not developed optimally, and classroom activities had not fully provided opportunities for active participation. Interview findings indicated that instructional practices had not been consistently designed to promote active engagement, and the teacher experienced challenges in developing more varied and interactive learning activities, although there was an expressed need and interest in implementing more engaging and participatory classroom experiences. These findings indicate a gap between the developmental characteristics of elementary school students and the current IPAS instructional practices. This preliminary study provides an empirical foundation for designing subsequent research focused on developing more participatory IPAS learning in elementary schools

Abstract

Background: of this research is based on the observation of the researcher in the fifth grade at Budi Mulia 1 Private Elementary School Pematangsiantar that teachers still use conventional learning models, resulting in students being less involved in the learning process. This causes the learning process to be less optimal and students' learning outcomes do not meet the criteria for achieving learning objectives. From these problems, solutions need to be sought, one of which is by applying the Mind Mapping learning model. Method: This study uses a quantitative method with a Pre-Experiment research type and a One Group Pretest-Posttest research design with a sample of 25 students. Based:on the hypothesis test results with a significance level of 0.05, tcount is 21.333 with a significance level (2-tailed) of 0.000, probability significant < 0.05, tcount > ttable = 22.007 > 1.708, therefore Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted. Conclusion: This explanation indicates that there is an effect of the Mind Mapping learning model on the Science and Social Studies learning outcomes of Grade V students at SD Swasta Budi Mulia 1 Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Human resource (HR) needs planning is a strategic aspect in improving the quality of educational HR management. The availability of competent teaching and administrative staff needs to be supported through a systematic planning process so that educational institutions can achieve their goals effectively and sustainably. This study aims to analyze the role of HR needs planning in improving the quality of HR management in educational institutions. The research method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach. Research data was obtained by searching scientific articles in the Google Scholar database with a publication range of 2022–2026 using keywords related to educational HR planning, HR management, and improving the quality of education. Articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns and key findings. The results of the review of 20 articles indicate that HR needs planning plays a crucial role in improving the quality of educational management through workforce needs analysis, competency-based recruitment and placement, professional development, performance management, and the implementation of a culture of continuous quality improvement. However, the implementation of human resource planning still faces various obstacles, such as budget constraints, teacher administrative burdens, digital competency gaps, and suboptimal performance evaluation systems. Therefore, educational institutions need to implement adaptive, targeted, and sustainable human resource planning strategies that address future competency needs to produce professional educators and support improvements in education quality.

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance represents a global health crisis that has driven the exploration of natural products as alternative antibacterial agents. This research aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combining white pomegranate peel (Punica granatum) and red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) extracts in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed using the disc diffusion method. The treatments consisted of combination ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1 at concentrations of 25, 50, 75, and 100%. Chloramphenicol served as the positive control, while distilled water was used as the negative control. The findings revealed that the 1:2 ratio combination produced the highest inhibition zone (25.50 mm), which was significantly different (p < 0.05) from the positive control. This combination demonstrated a mutually reinforcing effect. It was concluded that the combination of white pomegranate peel extract and red betel leaf extract holds promise as a natural antibacterial agent.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of mobile phones in student presentations and their impact on the learning process among fourth-semester students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD) at Universitas Nusa Cendana. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach involving 33 students as respondents. Data were collected through classroom observations and questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale. The collected data were analyzed using PSPP software to determine the percentages and tendencies of respondents' answers. The findings indicate that the use of mobile phones in presentations has both positive and negative impacts on the learning process. The positive impact is reflected in the students' ability to access additional information and references quickly during presentations. A total of 90.9% of respondents stated that mobile phones helped them obtain additional information, with a mean score of 4.27, categorized as very high. However, the use of mobile phones also negatively affects student interaction and critical thinking skills. About 66.6% of respondents admitted that mobile phone use reduced interaction with the audience and influenced their critical thinking abilities. Furthermore, 75.7% of the students reported using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help answer questions during presentations. This study concludes that mobile phones and AI can support the learning process when used wisely and proportionally. Therefore, appropriate regulations and digital literacy are needed to ensure that technology functions as a learning aid rather than replacing students' independent thinking processes.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize a coaching-based academic supervision program using the TIRTA (Objective, Identification, Action Plan, and Responsibility) model to improve the quality of learning at SD Negeri 229 Cibaduyut, Bandung, in the 2025-2026 academic year. Using a School Action Research (PTS) design with a predominantly qualitative approach, the study involved 16 teachers as subjects. The supervision process was integrated into three stages: pre-observation, observation, and post-observation, with TIRTA coaching implemented in two main action cycles, preceded by a pre-cycle as a baseline. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and checklists, and analyzed descriptively using score categorization. The results showed a significant improvement: the average supervision score from the pre-cycle (70, good category) increased to 81.5 in cycle I and 86.78 in cycle II (very good category), representing an overall 23.97% increase. Improvements were seen in administrative and classroom aspects, supported by collaboration, intense communication, and a humanistic approach aligned with national policies such as Permendikbud No. 16/2022, Perdirjen GTK No. 2626/2023, and the Independent Curriculum. The conclusion states that TIRTA coaching-based supervision effectively improves teachers' pedagogical competence, contributing to the quality of continuing education. Recommendations: consistent monitoring and further research to address challenges such as time constraints.

Abstract

Coal is one of the most widely transported dry bulk commodities in Indonesia, requiring proper cargo hold preparation to maintain cargo quality and ensure operational efficiency. Inadequate cargo hold preparation may lead to cargo contamination, loading delays, increased operational costs, and reduced ship productivity. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of cargo hold preparation procedures, identify the obstacles encountered during the preparation process, and determine the efforts made to overcome these obstacles on board MV. Kartini Samudra. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with the Chief Officer and Boatswain, documentation, and literature review during the author's sea practice aboard MV. Kartini Samudra. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that cargo hold preparation generally followed the company's Standard Operating Procedures and the requirements of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code. However, several obstacles were identified, including limited preparation time due to short voyage schedules, leakage in the hatch cover hydraulic system, delays in spare part delivery, and suboptimal supervision during cargo hold inspection. These constraints potentially delayed loading operations and reduced operational efficiency. Therefore, improving planned maintenance, strengthening crew supervision, enhancing coordination among deck officers, and implementing routine evaluations of cargo hold readiness are essential to support safe and efficient loading operations.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in fire fighting drill and emergency conditions on board MV Pan Bonita. SCBA is an air breathing apparatus used by the fire rescue team to help extinguish fires and evacuate casualties on the ship. Based on the researcher's experience during sea practice, the understanding and use of SCBA on board has not been maximized. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The results indicate that SCBA usage has not been fully effective due to several factors including lack of education and supervision from ship officers, lack of crew discipline, and insufficient crew experience. Recommendations include regular monthly training, pre-drill education sessions, strengthened crew discipline and performance, and increased safety awareness and professionalism.
