Abstract

Evaluation is a strategic component in the education system that serves as a basis for decision-making to improve the quality of learning and educational programs. Various evaluation models have been developed to address diverse evaluation needs according to the objectives, context, and characteristics of the program being assessed. This article aims to comprehensively analyze the Tyler, Scriven, Stufflebeam (CIPP), and Stake evaluation models and identify their strengths, limitations, and relevance in modern educational practice. The research uses a literature review method with a descriptive-analytical approach through a review of various relevant scientific sources. The results of the study indicate that the Tyler Model emphasizes the achievement of educational objectives as an indicator of program success. The Scriven Model develops formative and summative evaluations as well as goal-free evaluations that enable a broader identification of program impacts. The CIPP Model offers a comprehensive evaluation approach through the evaluation of context, input, process, and product, thus supporting sustainable decision-making. Meanwhile, the Stake Model emphasizes evaluation that is responsive to the needs of stakeholders and real-world conditions. The findings indicate that no evaluation model is completely superior to the others because each has a different focus, strengths, and limitations. Therefore, the selection of an evaluation model needs to be adjusted to the objectives, characteristics of the program, and the information needs to be obtained.

Abstract

Abstract

Scientific literacy plays an important role in shaping mindsets, behaviors, and individual character to care for and take responsibility for oneself, society, the universe, and the challenges of modern society that depend on technology. The selection of appropriate learning approaches is needed to develop students' scientific literacy. STEM is an approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contextual problem-solving. One of the learning outcomes in Grade X biology, phase E, is environmental change, with the sub-material on water pollution. E-LKPD is a digital teaching material to train students' understanding of the material. This study aims to develop E-LKPD to train scientific literacy skills that are valid, practical, and effective. This study applies the 4-D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). The aspects measured include validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Validity is assessed based on the aspects of presentation, content, and language by two validators, namely material expert lecturers and media expert lecturers. Practicality is measured through observation of student activities and student response questionnaires. Effectiveness is assessed based on the improvement of scientific literacy skills through a comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. The E-LKPD was tested on a limited basis on 25 grade X students of SMAN 1 Cerme. The dissemination stage was carried out through the publication of scientific articles. The validation data were analyzed using a Likert scale, the observational data on student activities and the questionnaire responses were analyzed using a Guttman scale, and the students' scientific literacy ability was analyzed using the N-Gain score. The results showed that the E-LKPD was very valid with a validity 93.50%. Practicality was categorized as very practical based on the implementation of student activities at 96.21% and positive student responses at 97.71%. Effectiveness was reviewed from the improvement of scientific literacy skills with an average N-Gain of 0.78 in the great improvement category. Thus, the STEM-based E-LKPD is considered valid, practical, and effective in training students' scientific literacy skills in the sub-material of water pollution.

Abstract

This study examines the deductive paragraph writing ability of third-grade students at SD Negeri 040452 Kabanjahe and explores the factors shaping it, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation involving 20 students, with the classroom teacher as a supporting informant, while source and method triangulation ensured data validity. The findings reveal that only 35% of students reached optimal learning outcomes, with scores of 60% for content, 45% for organization, and just 35% for written language mastery falling in the good-to-excellent range. A closer look at the 20 writing samples uncovered 500 spelling errors, most commonly midword capitalization mistakes (48%), followed by missing periods (17%) and commas (15%). Several internal and external factors appear to shape students' writing performance, including their interest in writing, grasp of spelling rules, and the teaching methods used in class. Taken together, these results suggest that students' deductive paragraph writing skills still have considerable room for improvement, pointing to the need for more targeted instructional strategies.
