Abstract

Without parental direction, adolescents living in orphanages face difficulties deciding about their future orientation in careers and educational paths. Therefore, to effectively support them, protective factors must be identified. This study aims to examine the effect of resilience and secure attachment on how adolescents living in orphanages see their future orientation in relation to their education and careers. Purposive sampling strategies were used to select 96 teenagers from orphanages as research subjects. In this study, three measuring devices were employed. The Secure Attachment variable was measured using the attachment model of Bartholomew & Horowitz (1991), the future orientation variable was measured using the Future Expectation Scale of Adolescents (Dwiastuti dkk.,2023), and the resilience variable was measured using the seven aspects of resilience according to Reivich & Shatte (2002). The analysis was carried out utilizing multiple regression. The results of the hypothesis show that resilience and stable attachment play a crucial role in the future orientation of teenagers in foster care. This is supported by the values p=0.004 (p<0.05), R=0.335, R Square=0.093, and F=5.893. Thus, it can be concluded that the resilience and secure attachment variables, when combined, contribute an effective 9% to increasing the quality of future orientation in education and career fields for adolescents living in orphanages.

Abstract

Self-disclosure is an important aspect of adolescent social development, but for adolescents with physical disabilities, the dynamics influencing self-disclosure may differ from those of typically developing adolescents. The research question in this study is how the dynamics of self-disclosure manifest in adolescents with physical disabilities living in the YPAC Surakarta dormitory. The aim of this study is to understand the dynamics that influence self-disclosure in adolescents with physical disabilities at the Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) Surakarta. The study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological framework, using semi-structured interviews as the data collection instrument. The study participants are adolescents aged 15 to 18 who have physical disabilities and have lived in the YPAC Surakarta dormitory for more than 6 months. The findings indicate that self-disclosure among adolescents with physical disabilities is influenced by several dynamics, including trust, emotional closeness, conversational context relevance, and personality. Trust is the primary dynamic that enables adolescents to share personal information, while emotional closeness and the relevance of the conversation context further facilitate self-disclosure. Introverted personalities tend to maintain privacy. In conclusion, self-disclosure among adolescents with physical disabilities is significantly influenced by the interaction between internal and external dynamics, and understanding these dynamics is crucial in creating a social environment that supports communication and their psychological well-being.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the quarter-life crisis frequently occurs among individuals aged 20 to 30 years, a period known as emerging adulthood. This prolonged crisis phase is primarily attributed to low levels of well-being, which are influenced by self-compassion—a factor with both preventive and promotive potential. This study aims to examine how self-compassion affects the psychological well-being of emerging adults experiencing a quarter-life crisis in Surabaya. Employing a quantitative research approach, the study utilizes a closed-ended questionnaire for data collection. The findings confirm that self-compassion has a positive impact on psychological well-being and serves as a protective factor in coping with the quarter-life crisis. By recognizing difficulties as a natural part of life, students with higher self-compassion are better able to accept themselves, regulate their emotions effectively, and develop more stable psychological well-being.

Abstract

In the current digital era, Instagram has become one of the most popular social media applications, especially with its filters that enhance photo results. These filters influence visual appearance and significantly impact psychological aspects, including self-confidence and self-image. This research aims to explore the influence of self-image on self-confidence among early adult women who use Instagram filters inKarawang Regency. The research methodology employed is quantitative with an associative causal design. Sampling is conducted using non-probability sampling via convenience sampling. The sample size of 160 participants is determined using the Lemeshow formula. Instruments used include a self-confidence scale based on theory and a self-image scale based on Jersild's theory, both constructed by the researcher. Hypothesis testing indicates a positive relationship between self-image and self-confidence. The coefficient of determination reveals that self-image contributes 48.8% to self-confidence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the quality of the instrument and the quality of the national identity scale items using the Rasch model analysis approach. To determine the quality of the national identity scale items for the population analyzed using the Rasch model, namely the item analysis approach. This study is a type of quantitative research. The scale developed is a national identity scale compiled based on Ashmore's collective identity theory. The research subjects successfully collected in this study amounted to N = 503. Based on the analysis using the Rasch model, the national identity scale instrument is reliable and valid. In terms of items, there are several national identity scale items that need to be discarded and revised. Of the 39 national identity scale items, 23 items were accepted, 7 items were replaced/discarded, and 9 items needed to be revised in terms of item difficulty. The Self-Categorization element is the element that has the most items discarded and revised so it needs to be considered in compiling the items.

Abstract

Sex education is crucial for adolescents from an early age, as they are vulnerable to misinformation about sexuality. This study aimed to examine adolescents' perceptions of sex education and provide psychoeducation to prevent risky sexual behavior. The methods used included lectures and discussions, with measurements conducted using a sexual behavior tendency scale through a pre-test, post-test, and a follow-up one month after the intervention. The results showed a significant increase in adolescents' knowledge levels after psychoeducation, with t = -15.282 (p = 0.000) for the pre-test and post-test comparison, and significant stability in the follow-up (t = -9.473, p = 0.000). Psychoeducation helps individuals recognize the importance of sex education without stigma. This program effectively fosters a healthy understanding and a positive attitude toward sexuality. Therefore, broader implementation is necessary, both in schools through the integration of sexual psychoeducation materials and in communities using an environment-based approach.

Abstract

Volunteers are prone to experiencing stress due to the enormous workload they face. Stress on volunteers must be appropriately managed so that it does not impact daily life. This research was conducted to see the effectiveness of stress management training in reducing stress in the Berbagi Cerita Indonesia Community. This training uses a one-group pretest-posttest research design. Selection of participants using purposive sampling. There were nine participants involved in this study. Researchers developed a measuring tool to measure knowledge about stress, while the measuring tool for stress was calculated using the DASS (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale). The collected data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results show a significant difference between before and after the training. This explains that stress management training is practical in enhancing knowledge about stress for the Berbagi Cerita Indonesia Community volunteers.

Abstract

This study investigates the factors affecting implementation and perceived changes in the New Social Studies Curriculum across Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok regions in Iraq. Through semi-structured interviews with twenty social studies teachers, the research identifies and analyzes key implementation factors including resource availability, time constraints, teacher training, student engagement, assessment methods, administrative support, and curriculum alignment. The findings reveal significant implementation challenges related to curriculum complexity, teacher preparedness, and regional variations in resource distribution. Teachers reported evolving professional roles, from content delivery to facilitating critical thinking, fostering historical empathy, and promoting cultural appreciation. The study contributes to curriculum implementation theory by demonstrating how contextual factors in post-conflict settings influence reform efforts, while providing evidence-based recommendations for enhancing professional development, resource provision, and administrative support to improve implementation effectiveness across the three regions.
