Abstract

This community service activity was organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Bumigora, aiming to strengthen public and student understanding of sustainable economy concepts through cooperative-based community empowerment. The event was conducted online on November 1, 2025, under the theme “From Community to Sustainable Economy: Empowering Cooperatives and Villages as Competitive People-Centered Economic Hubs.” The activity featured two international speakers from Koperasi Keluarga Haji Roslan Kedah Berhad (Malaysia), namely Muhammad Najmuddin bin Mazlan and Muhamad Hafiz bin Muhamad Ahyat. The materials consisted of Module 1, which discussed social cooperatives and the Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework, and Module 2, which showcased practical examples of social enterprise development in Malaysian rural communities. Participants gained valuable insights into how cooperatives can serve as both economic and social entities that promote member welfare and community empowerment. The post-event evaluation showed that more than 90% of participants reported improved understanding of sustainable cooperative models and international collaboration opportunities. This program contributed to enhancing community economic literacy and fostering cross-country cooperation in digital cooperative and social entrepreneurship initiatives. Overall, it supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Communities).

Abstract

Bali cattle are an endemic Indonesian germplasm known for high reproductive potential and adaptability; however, their genetic quality at the smallholder farmer level has tended to decline due to improper selection management. This community service activity aimed to educate the "Iwaq Jaya Farm" livestock group in Janapria District, Central Lombok, regarding the importance of livestock selection and recording systems. The methods employed included surveys, observations, and discussion-based presentations. Results indicated that farmers still implement traditional rearing systems with a small ownership scale of 3–6 head. Education focused on selection techniques based on qualitative and quantitative traits (body weight and body dimensions), as well as basic recording techniques for lineage and feed. Through this assistance, farmers are expected to perform independent selection using simple measuring tools to improve genetic quality and livestock productivity in the future.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the most widely traded agricultural commodities globally, generating substantial volumes of by-products and waste streams throughout its processing chain. These by-products including coffee pulp, cascara, mucilage, parchment, silverskin, and spent coffee grounds represent a significant environmental burden when improperly managed, yet simultaneously constitute a rich reservoir of bioactive compounds and valorizable biomass. This manuscript presents a community engagement initiative focused on disseminating and implementing coffee processing technologies that transform waste streams into value-added products, aligned with circular bioeconomy principles. The activity was conducted on 22 April 2026 with participants are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) KWT Kaki Rinjani in Karang Sidemen Village, Central Lombok with the . The session was delivered directly by Prof. Rosnah Shamsudin that introduced aerospace 3.0 the latest small-scale coffee press from UPM. accompanied with theoretical presentation technique drying of coffee, waste treatment and sensory demonstration of functional coffee conducted from Fatepa-Unram. The expected outcomes include enhanced technical and entrepreneurial capacities among SME actors, improved ability to design functional coffee product, and waste treatment of coffee into valuable product. The long-term impact is the creation of a more resilient SMEs ecosystem in Karang Sidemen Village, with a portfolio of functional, high-value coffee products. Furthermore, optimizing the management of production waste is projected to significantly reduce environmental burdens while opening up new income diversification opportunities for the community. Ultimately, the sustainability of this program will strengthen local coffee's position as a leading commodity managed innovatively, efficiently, and environmentally friendly.

Abstract

This community service aimed to improve the independence of students in a Special School (SLB) through structured play-based learning. The main issue addressed was low student engagement and independence due to limited teaching methods. The activity was conducted through preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages by applying structured play activities such as guessing sounds and imitating animal movements. Evaluation was carried out through observation of participation, ability to follow instructions, and student independence. The results showed improvements in engagement, ability to follow instructions, and independence, indicated by reduced reliance on teacher assistance. The learning environment also became more enjoyable and interactive, encouraging students to be more active and confident. This activity provides a practical alternative for teachers to develop engaging and structured learning, and demonstrates that play-based learning can be an effective approach to enhance independence among students with special needs.

Abstract

Fish processing activities in coastal communities often leave by-products that are not optimally utilized, including tuna bone waste. In Poklahsar Bubulla, Jambula Village, Ternate City, tuna bones generated from shredded tuna production were previously discarded, despite their potential as raw materials for value-added food products. This community service program aimed to strengthen partners’ production capacity through the application of appropriate processing technology and practical assistance in transforming tuna bone waste into marketable products. The program was implemented using a participatory approach through technical training, technology introduction, product processing practice, packaging assistance, and evaluation. The technologies introduced included a food dehydrator, flour milling machine, and vacuum sealer. The activities resulted in improved partner skills in processing tuna bone waste into fish bone flour and fish balls, better understanding of hygienic packaging practices, and stronger readiness to develop a small-scale business based on fishery by-products. Evaluation using pre-test and post-test among 11 participants showed an increase in the average score from 50.00 to 90.50, with an N-Gain value of 0.81 or 81%, categorized as high. The program also contributed to waste reduction and supported the creation of more efficient and sustainable fish processing practices at the community level. The findings indicate that appropriate technology adoption combined with community mentoring can enhance product diversification, increase the utilization of fishery waste, and support local economic empowerment. Abstract

This community service activity aims to assess the effectiveness of vitamin administration as a treatment for avitaminosis in cattle in Selong and Suela Districts. The main problem found in the field is the persistence of vitamin deficiency cases in cattle due to suboptimal feed management and continued reliance on forage without additional supplementation. The methods used in this activity included observation, physical examination of the cattle, and treatment measures through the administration of vitamin B12 and vitamin B complex via intramuscular injection. A total of 25 cattle were treated, consisting of 10 in Selong District and 15 in Suela District. The results of the activity showed that vitamin administration was able to provide a relatively rapid recovery response, characterized by increased appetite, activity, and physical condition of the cattle within 2–3 days after the treatment. Scientifically, this is related to the role of vitamins as coenzymes in energy metabolism and improving the livestock's immune system. Based on these results, it can be concluded that vitamin administration via injection is an effective method in treating avitaminosis in cattle, especially in traditional livestock systems. However, this effort needs to be accompanied by improvements in feed management and increased farmer knowledge to prevent similar incidents in the future.
