Abstract

Speaking and writing skills are essential for madrasah students, as both play a crucial role in forming practical communication skills. In the context of madrasah education, where students not only study general subjects but also religious studies, having good speaking and writing skills will help them convey their ideas and understanding more clearly and precisely. This helps build self-confidence and interpersonal skills that are important in everyday life. The application of role-play is carried out not only in exact subjects but also in English language learning. The role-play environment creates a meaningful context that allows students to learn English in situations that resemble the real world. Cutting-edge technology, such as interactive, spherical video-based virtual reality (ISVVR), can be used in English language learning. Apart from being a way to overcome time constraints, ISVVR media can enrich learning resources and space for practice. This research aims to test the effect of applying role-play assisted by ISVVR and Learning Styles as moderator variables to improve English speaking and writing performance. This research used a quasi-experiment with Pre-test and Post-test Control Group Design. The participants used were 92 class XII students at MAN 5 Jombang using 2x3 factorial Manova analysis. The findings in this study were that speaking and writing performance was different between groups of students who applied role-play assisted ISSVR and conventional video and learning styles, but there was no interaction between model and learning style on speaking and writing performance.

Abstract

The significance of mathematical reasoning in mathematics instruction and the substantial incidence of inadequate mathematical reasoning among high school students prompted this study. This study intends to explore the mathematical reasoning of high school students about three-dimensional geometry using the GeoGebra-assisted Problem-Based Learning (GPBL) model. This research applied a quasi-experimental design including a non-equivalent pretest and posttest control group. The subjects of this research were specifically 12th-grade students from an upper secondary school in Subang. The research contained two classes, with 27 students as the experimental group and 27 as the control group. Interviews were conducted to identify the factors that explain students' difficulties in solving mathematical reasoning problems concerning three-dimensional geometry. The findings indicated that (1) overall, the enhancement of mathematical reasoning among students utilizing the GPBL model was significantly higher than that of students implementing the conventional learning model; (2) referring to students' prior mathematical ability (PMA), the enhancement in mathematical reasoning for students in high, medium, and low PMA groups utilizing the GPBL model was significantly higher than that of students implementing the conventional learning model; (3) the main obstacle discovered by students to solving mathematical reasoning problems involving three-dimensional geometry is their struggle in visualizing problems in a three-dimensional context. GeoGebra assists students in visually constructing three-dimensional geometry problems and evaluating the outcomes of algebraic algorithms with 3D graphical representations.

Abstract

Differentiated Instruction (DI) is considered an important but challenging task which many teachers feel unprepare. A list of requisite skill of DI is needed to eliminate teachers’ unpreparadness. This study aimed to explore requisite skills for DI implementation and to identify best practices across various school levels. Using 112 self-reported essays, subsequent interviews, videotaped DI practices, and experts meeting, this article employed Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA) to capture a description of the knowledge that experts use to carry out differentiations. The result revealed that CTA of DI implementation contained four essential skills in the preparation phase, nine skills in the implementation phase, and two skills in the evaluation phase. Despite of highly different contexts of school levels, this study found similarities in DI practices across all levels. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on DI by highlighting the effectiveness of CTA in identifying and implementing DI strategies across different educational levels. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of DI on student achievement and engagement, as well as investigate DI practices in different educational settings.
