Abstract

Kitâb al-Luma' fî al-Taṣawwuf of al-Sarrâj (d. 378H./988CE.) is the earliest work in Sufism survived and arrived at us. It did not only record the history of Sufism up to that time but also promoted and placed its position among other disciplines in the history of intellectual and spiritual traditions of Islam. With this work, al-Sarrâj formulated Sufi epistemology in its earliest development. This paper attempts to explore the Sufi epistemology of al-Sarrâj, which will cover the discussion about his classification and hierarchy of knowledge, his analysis of the position of Sufism among other knowledge, and then his elaboration of the methodology of Sufism. Before ending the discussion, the paper will read the works of Indonesian Sufis using Sufi epistemology as a perspective. This study finds that al-Sarrâj was successfully constructed Sufi epistemology in its initial emergence. He placed Sufism as a discipline of knowledge and posed it at the highest level in the structural hierarchy of knowledge. Reading the works of Indonesian Sufis from Sufi epistemology, it appears that in the early days of their birth, these works were colored by the epistemology of philosophical Sufism. It was only later that the epistemology of Sunni Sufism came into existence, and this became more evident in the following periods in the development of Sufism in this country.

Furthermore, as a basis for analyzing the concept of life-based Islamic religious education learning. The implication is that through life-based Islamic religious education learning, various life skills, efforts to master knowledge are developed systematically, continuously and sustainably throughout life, both when relaxing, having a family and in society.  Harmonization of potential development between the realms of knowledge, attitudes, and skills through a life-based Islamic religious education learning approach can encourage students to have an awareness of lifelong religious learning and the ability to adapt to changes in science and technology, social, economic and cultural guidelines based on Islamic teachings. The concept of life-based Islamic religious education can be considered as a solution to overcome the problem of the low scientific ethos and national character as well as to improve the quality of life and the lives of students in the era of knowledge.

Where this object is used as a reference for compiling and formulating the design of extracurricular programs in the field of Islamic thought at the (SMA) level. This research is qualitative research with primary data sources obtained from interviews and field observations (field research). The data is used to analyze and describe educational programs and curricula at Pesantren At-Taqwa Depok. The results of the study found that the extracurricular design in the field of thought was based on the concept of al-Tawâssut wa al-'Itidâl and the concept of Ashlaḥa wa 'Mua'shirah. The extracurricular program in the field of thought aimed to produce superior adabi people, broad-minded about Islam and in accordance with the Islamic worldview. This program is actualized in two forms, the first being organizers or forums for developing student potential in a field of thought called the Student-Insight Development Forum. Abstract

As a Sufi figure, al-Ghazali developed moral Sufism as part of his desire to provide ethics in dealing with worldly activities so that they are more focused and run. This study is structured in the form of a library research project based on a character's thoughts at a specific time. This study also employs a descriptive technique approach, which is a type of study that describes existing phenomena. This method was chosen because the goal of this research was to provide an in-depth picture of the subject of the study, namely how the process of the concept of akhlaqi Sufism should be and its relevance to business actors according to Imam Al-Ghazali. Sufism al-akhlaqi Ghazali teaches Tawhid, which holds a significant position in Islamic business ethics, according to his research findings. Every Muslim is born with two consciences as a result of this monotheism. First and foremost, everyone must recognize that this nature was created by Allah SWT for the benefit of humans and that Allah is the sole owner. All natural resources, or factors of production in economic parlance, are Allah SWT's absolute property. Human ownership, on the other hand, is a relative concept. Second, humans were created in this world to serve God, and any worship performed by humans will be considered worship. Internalization of these two perspectives will have an impact on Muslim commercial activities. Every business owner must recognize that their work is also an act of worship to Allah SWT.

Abstract

Until now Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG) is still surviving, sustainable, and quality with several national and international recognition. Behind the readiness and success of PMDG, there is an initial motivation of the Trimurti founder of Gontor (hereinafter referred to as Trimurti) which is quite interesting to be studied as The Lessons Learned, especially for other pesantren Kiai. This study aimed to reveal the secrets of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of Trimurti and its implications for PMDG. This study was a qualitative type, where data was collected using mixed techniques, namely field research and literature research. The data was written in descriptive, analytical, and historical methods through five stages, namely; selection of topics, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and 'historiography'. This research relies on five theories, namely; the Theory of Anatomy of Human Motivation, the Theory of Implications, the Trimurti Theory, the Kiai Theory, and the Modern Pesantren Theory. This study found that the intrinsic motivation of Trimurti includes the local and regional microscale, and their extrinsic motivation includes the national mesoscale and global macroscale which has positive implications in the form of selective protection actions of three pesantren systems and projections of four modern systems in PMDG that contribute extraordinary to the nation, the country, even the world. The author considers Trimurti to be the time to become the Role Model of Lessons Learned and receive the National Hero Title award in the momentum of a century of PMDG (1926-2026).

Abstract

The Java War had its unique influence on the development of pesantren. Prince Diponegoro plays the struggle against the invaders with some of his soldiers who come from among the pesantren. After his defeat in the Java War of 1825-1830, many Diponegoro warriors spread to teach religion. This research will discuss the sustainability of the struggle of Diponegoro warriors in pesantren and the Islamic treasures of the Java War, such as strengthening pesantren traditions and the existence of tarekat syattariyah (syattariyah order). This research is classified as historical research through Kuntowijoyo's historical research methods: topic selection, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. This research yielded several conclusions, namely: First, after its defeat in the Java war, the struggle of Diponegoro warriors with a cleric-santri background continued through the establishment of pesantren with a change in strategy more to intellectual strengthening. Second, intellectual traditions during the Java War, one of which was through the study of yellow books typical of pesantren with fiqh and Sufi patterns such as Fatḥ al-Qarîb and Tuḥfah al-Mursalah ila Rûḥ al-Nabiy. Third, the existence of the tarekat syattariyah that had an anti-colonial character at that time was quite popular in Java, made the order followed by prince Diponegoro and some of his soldiers. Fourth, when compared to the Padri War, the typology of da'wah struggle developed by Diponegoro warriors is more moderately patterned identically to Walisongo's accommodating character.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the family management perspective of Islamic education in rural communities in Yogyakarta and Southeast Sulawesi. The data was collected by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that family management means a family arrangement in preparing various resources for family needs. The farming community in Atula Village, Southeast Sulawesi defined Islamic education as follows; first, it is something that is important and must be done, to gain knowledge, provision for later life, to add insight, future, experience, find work, become smart, then put it into practice, so parents prepare finances for their children. Second, the Islamic education that is carried out by the children of the farming community in the Atula village is Madrasah and Islamic boarding school, generating and exploring the potential for the progress of the nation and generations through Islam. As for Banjaroya Village, Yogyakarta, the majority of parents' occupations are farmers, the meaning of Islamic education for them is; first in general (mostly parents), do not have a clear plan about the education of their children. Second, children and parents are less interested in schooling their children in Madrasas or Islamic boarding schools. The community also viewed religious education is seen as less "cool" in the eyes and less promising according to the parents.

Abstract

The unwise utilization of Information and Technology (IT) has resulted in negative impacts within society. This, in turn, gradually contributes to the formation of highly dangerous negative characters that threaten the moral resilience of the nation. The purpose of this paper is to present the concept and implementation of Islamic religious character education as an effort to prevent the negative consequences of the misuse of IT. Through a literature review approach, the authors found that to avoid the adverse effects of unwise IT usage, it is necessary to alter the perspective of learners in line with the Islamic worldview, especially regarding core beliefs in Allah, angels, scriptures, prophets, the Day of Judgment, and predestination. Other essential content that learners should master includes ethical behavior towards Allah, fellow human beings, and oneself. The process of implementing religious character is carried out through ta'dīb and tazkiyatun nafs, involving the stages of takhliyah and taḥliyah. Thus, the objective of this religious character education process is to cultivate learners who are virtuous and wise in their use of IT.

Abstract

Salafism and Ash’arism have debated the issue of anthropomorphism verses for a long time. In modern days, both followers spread the debate through social media. This article will discuss Indonesian Salafist’s statement on interpreting anthropomorphism verses on YouTube. We will use Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) from Fairclough’s perspective to investigate how such discursive practices arise from and are ideologically shaped by power relations and power struggles. We conclude that the Salafists frame Ash’arite as Ahl al-Bid’ah because they distort the meaning of anthropomorphic verses. Salafi groups try to present rational arguments for their beliefs to convey to the public that what they believe is rational. As part of the global Salafist movement, the Indonesian Salafists spread their thoughts through various channels on YouTube and received a negative response from Nahdatul Ulama, an Ash’arite adherent, in the comments column. From a power relationship perspective, we can read that the Salafist group is trying to spread its theology to society. Ash’arism, as the majority sect in Indonesia, is trying to defend itself from the spread of Salafism.
