Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in Indonesia’s economy by contributing to job creation, investments, and local growth. In Kuningan Regency, MSMEs such as Qiut Cireng face significant internal and external challenges that hinder their growth. Qiut Cireng, an MSME in Ragawacana Village, specializes in chicken-filled cireng but struggles with limited marketing, inadequate promotion, and operational inefficiencies. In response, the 2024 Community Development program by Universitas Prasetiya Mulya aimed to optimize Qiut Cireng’s business strategy, focusing on key aspects of its supply chain: operations, marketing, finance, and distribution. The program used a live-in period to gather primary data, allowing the implementation of improvements such as waste reduction in production, logo and packaging redesign, enhanced social media marketing, and improved financial record-keeping. The results revealed that while Qiut Cireng did not face major financial difficulties, limited production capacity and low demand were barriers to growth. The program successfully identified strategies to improve branding, product visibility, and sales channels, demonstrating that a comprehensive supply chain approach is crucial for MSME growth. Ongoing efforts are essential for ensuring the long-term success of Qiut Cireng and strengthening the role of MSMEs in Indonesia’s economy.

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in Indonesia's economy by promoting economic equality, improving welfare, increasing foreign exchange, absorbing labor, and supporting the economy during crises, in today's digital era, platforms like e-commerce, social media, and digital marketing are essential for MSMEs, to overcome challenges such as limited capital and marketing inefficiency, expand their reach, and enhance brand awareness, ultimately contributing to economic growth. These community development activities aimed to empower MSMEs in rural areas, with a focus on supporting Cemilarupa, a local MSME, in enhancing its brand awareness and optimizing its use of digital platforms. The initiative involved a series of mentoring activities, including direct fieldwork, product photography assistance, and guidance in managing e-commerce and social media accounts. The primary goal was to help Cemilarupa improve its online presence and marketing strategies. As a result, the business experienced significant improvements in brand recognition, online marketing knowledge, market reach, and sales turnover. By effectively utilizing e-commerce and social media, the project addressed key challenges faced by MSMEs in the era of globalization and digitalization. This paper highlights the positive outcomes of the initiative for Cemilarupa’s development and provides insights into the effectiveness of community development strategies aimed at MSME empowerment.

Abstract

Goat farming in Wonosari District, Malang Regency, presents significant potential; however, local farmers face numerous challenges, including livestock management, record-keeping, feed quality, hygienic milking practices, marketing, and organizational issues. This 2024 Doctoral Service Program (DM) by Universitas Brawijaya aims to enhance the welfare of farmers by optimizing production management, improving milk quality, expanding marketing reach, and strengthening cooperative management. Specifically, the program seeks to increase the quantity and quality of goat milk production, improve farmer knowledge and skills in farm management and hygienic practices, and develop digital and conventional marketing strategies. Methods employed include training on feed formulation using local resources, hygienic milking practices, milk quality control, and online and offline marketing platforms. The outcomes demonstrate that the program enhanced goat milk production and quality, improved farmer knowledge and skills, expanded market access, and strengthened the cooperative’s operational structure. Post-test results showed significant improvements in farmers' abilities in feed formulation, hygienic milking, and marketing strategies. This indicates that the program effectively elevated practical skills, contributing to increased productivity, product competitiveness, and the economic empowerment of the local farming community.

Abstract

The GNV Learning Center, acting as the community engagement partner, had difficulties enhancing the participants' competences within the context of implementing Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR). Additionally, a significant number of trainees came from businesses that did not have sufficient documentation of their internal controls and had minimal experience recognizing risks or evaluating their effectiveness. In order to address these deficiencies, a community service program with the name "Mastering ICOFR: Building Effective Internal Control Systems for Compliance and Financial Reporting Accuracy" was developed. The program's objective is to enhance both the theoretical grasp of the COSO framework and the practical skills associated with it. The program was presented in a variety of formats, including interactive seminars, group exercises, discussions based on real-world scenarios, and simulations of internal audits. Additionally, participants were provided with access to digital modules and online mentoring support for a period of three months, in addition to the in-person training that lasted for two days. The evaluation, which consisted of pre- and post-tests, revealed that the participants' abilities had improved by an average of 33 percent. A number of significant learning outcomes were the enhancement of risk mapping, the recording of internal controls, and the capability to identify gaps in the system. This program was successful in contributing to the development of a culture that prioritizes compliance, accountability, and transparency within the organizations that made up the participants. We recommend replicating the program model in other industries facing comparable governance difficulties due to its adaptability.

Abstract

Conventional agricultural practices, such as burning or discarding rice straw, contribute to environmental degradation, highlighting the need for sustainable alternatives like zero-waste utilization. This study aimed to convert rice straw into organic fertilizer, reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, and promote sustainable agriculture in Rilau Ale District, Bulukumba Regency. Through a community-based program, farmers were trained in waste-processing techniques using simple technologies. The results showed that 85% of participants adopted the method, eliminating straw burning while improving soil fertility and reducing chemical fertilizer use. This initiative demonstrates that zero-waste straw management is a replicable model for advancing agricultural sustainability and environmental resilience.

Abstract

The overgrowth of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in Batujai Dam, located in West Lombok Regency, has become a serious environmental concern. Its uncontrolled spread has disrupted water flow, limited irrigation functions, and negatively impacted aquatic biodiversity. However, instead of treating it as a problem, this community service activity focused on turning the weed into a helpful resource—specifically, a raw material for producing organic fertilizer. Purpose: The aim of this community service was to raise public awareness and provide training on managing water hyacinth sustainably while creating added value for the local economy. The program was conducted with a small-scale fertilizer producer in Central Lombok. Method: Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the activity involved the local community at every stage—from identifying the issue, designing solutions, and implementing the processing techniques to evaluating the results together. This approach was chosen to build community ownership and ensure the continuity of the efforts after the program ended. Result: As part of the process, around 1,000 kilograms of water hyacinth were harvested, sun-dried, chopped, and composted using Trichoderma spp. After fermentation, the community produced 20 liters of liquid fertilizer and 400 kilograms of solid compost. Conclusion: Beyond its environmental impact, the activity opened up opportunities for alternative income and promoted the concept of zero waste. It also encouraged the community to see local ecological issues not as obstacles but as opportunities to support green and sustainable living.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve health literacy, treatment adherence, and the quality of life among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) through a family-based education model. The intervention was conducted over six months at three community health centers (Puskesmas) in Tasikmalaya City: Kahuripan, Tamansari, and Cihideung. A total of 84 T2DM patients and their families participated in interactive educational sessions, including animated videos, family coaching, glucometer training, and a practical family handbook. Pre and post-tests were conducted using the SCPI (Skills, Confidence & Preparedness Index) instrument. The results showed significant improvements in health literacy (p = 0.000), family involvement (p = 0.000), and dietary adherence (p = 0.000). However, blood glucose levels did not significantly improve statistically (p = 0.305), indicating the need for a longer intervention period to achieve clinical outcomes. This program demonstrates the value of integrating family involvement and low-literacy-friendly media into diabetes education and offers a replicable model for other community-based health programs.

Abstract

The lack of political literacy among first-time voters poses a significant challenge to improving the quality of democracy, especially ahead of the 2024 Jambi Provincial Head Elections. Low political participation among young voters and high abstention rates underscore the urgency of this community service program. The program aims to deliver structured political education to enhance understanding, awareness, and participation among first-time voters. The method used was Community Service Learning, incorporating workshops, group discussions, election simulations, and pre-test and post-test surveys. The program targeted high school students and university freshmen in Jambi. Results indicated a substantial improvement in participants' political literacy. Knowledge of election schedules increased from 49% to 96.67%, understanding of gubernatorial candidates' visions and missions rose from 43.81% to 96.67%, and awareness of the relationship between elections and democracy improved from 21.43% to 88.10%. This program demonstrates that participatory political education can enhance political literacy and encourage young voters to actively engage in democracy. However, challenges such as political skepticism and low interest in democratic issues require continued efforts. Media literacy and digital platforms are recommended to broaden the program's reach and mitigate the impact of misinformation. In conclusion, sustained political education can foster a more inclusive and participatory democratic culture.
