Abstract

This community service aims to provide training to teachers and students of SMAS Pelita Karya in making wet and dry plant preparations based on local wisdom. This activity was motivated by the lack of laboratory facilities and the limited ability of teachers to carry out effective biology practicums. The training was carried out using the In-Service Training (IST) and On-Service Training (OST) methods involving science teachers and students. The results of this activity showed an increase in the competence of teachers and students in making and utilizing wet and dry preparations from local plants for biology practicum activities. In addition, there was an increase in students' understanding of biological concepts through the use of contextual and relevant preparation media to their surroundings. This activity concludes that training in making preparations based on local wisdom can improve the quality of biology learning at SMAS Pelita Karya and enrich learning methods based on local resources.

Abstract

Lemon Island is a small island in Manokwari Regency, West Papua. The livelihood of the people on Lemon Island is fishing for captured marine fish. Captured sea fish are prone to damage and spoilage during distribution, and the selling price is also low. Thus, it is necessary to educate the community about the need to process fishery products into fish nuggets to increase the shelf life of fish products and provide information to the community about the diversification of processed fish products. In addition, this community service activity is also expected to increase the income of coastal communities in Manokwari Regency, West Papua.

Abstract

The sustainable management of mangrove ecotourism requires generating additional income for its managers. One potential strategy is batik training using mangrove ecosystem motifs. On September 15, 2024, a batik training session was conducted for tour guides and managers of the Mangrove Cisiu Eco-Education Park, located in Pangkah Kulon Village, Gresik. The event was attended by 10 participants and was part of the Community Partnership Program (PKM) titled "Empowering Mangrove Managers through Eco-tourism Package Programs as Income Generating for the Sustainability of Mangrove Edupark Management on Cisiu Island", funded by DRTPM Kemendikbudristek. The training was led by Ms. Maria Cecilia, owner of Sanggar Lembayung Batik, who has extensive experience in teaching batik to various communities. Participants learned the basic techniques of batik-making, featuring motifs inspired by the mangrove ecosystem, such as Glodong fish, crabs, and mangrove trees. The training included canting techniques, wax application, and dyeing with synthetic batik dyes. In addition to technical skills, participants gained insight into the potential of batik as a creative economic product that can serve as an additional income source for ecotourism managers. This training aims to support the economic sustainability of the Mangrove Edupark Cisiu by developing high-value batik products, thus contributing to the preservation of the mangrove ecosystem through enhanced livelihoods for the local community.

Abstract

The Samarinda Tunnel construction project is a strategic effort to support infrastructure development in East Kalimantan. This tunnel is located from Jalan Sultan Alimuddin, Sambutan District to Jalan Kakap, Samarinda Ilir District, with a length of 690 meters from the entrance (Inlet) to the exit (Outlet). This tunnel is expected to be able to reduce traffic jams that often occur on Jalan Otto Iskandar Dinata, Sungai Dama Village. This project is owned by the Samarinda City Government (PUPR) and is implemented by the contractor PT. PP Persero with PT. Ciria Jasa Cipta Mandiri is the supervising consultant. The construction method used is the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM), with a focus on the use of shotcrete and rockbolt to maintain the stability of the tunnel structure during and after the construction process. Shotcrete provides temporary protection against ground pressure, while rockbolt strengthens the rock mass around the tunnel. In this community service, observations were carried out using a participatory method, where observers were directly involved in the activities being observed. This approach allows for a deeper understanding of the application of shotcrete and rockbolts, as well as the effectiveness of the supervision carried out to ensure compliance with applicable technical specifications and standards.

Abstract

The Muhammadiyah Branch Leadership (PRM) Kaliwadas, Bumiayu, Brebes, has experienced developments in preaching and religious activities. This is demonstrated through routine activities, such as religious studies every Wednesday night and Aisyiyah religious studies every Friday afternoon. However, there are still obstacles in the dissemination of information and understanding of the products of the fatwa thoughts of the Tarjih and Tajdid Council of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership. This condition has an impact on the lack of understanding and practice of prayer worship by the Muhammadiyah manhaj among residents affiliated with the organization. Therefore, through Community Service activities, the implementation team in collaboration with the PRM Kaliwadas management held training on how to pray based on the Tarjih Decisions Association (HPT). The implementation of this activity involved a series of counseling sessions, direct practice, and interactive discussions to improve participants' understanding and skills in performing prayers according to Muhammadiyah's guidance. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the principles of Muhammadiyah fiqh, including aspects of pillars, sunnah, and things that invalidate prayer. In addition, there is an increase in awareness of implementing the tarjih method in everyday life, which is reflected in the enthusiasm of participants in discussing fiqh issues more critically. Thus, this activity can contribute to improving the quality of individual worship and strengthening the tarjih tradition in the PRM Kaliwadas environment as part of an effort to build understanding and practice of Islamic teachings by the principles of Muhammadiyah.

Abstract

The partner in this community service program is the Sangalang Hapakat Farmers Group located in Tanjung Sangalang Village, Kahayan Tengah District, Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan. The current problem is the post-harvest processing of oyster mushrooms which is still carried out conventionally. Currently, the oyster mushroom chips production process is carried out using a frying pan so the product quality is not good and does not last long. In addition, the frying process also requires a lot of cooking oil consumption. The solution to this problem is to apply Vacuum Frying technology to the frying process and before packaging. This technology is an oil-saving frying system and the product results are tastier, so that the resulting product can last a long time (last up to 1 month). The method used in this community service uses the method of observing obstacles, solving problems, and analyzing needs as a follow-up to solving problems, then mentoring training on tools and testing the feasibility of tools, use, and maintenance of tools for Partners, as well as mentoring on packaging and product marketing.
