Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This paper examines the Kampus Mengajar (KM) program, a government initiative aimed at addressing learning loss among primary students in Indonesia due to the COVID-19 pandemic while enhancing the soft skills of college students by giving them teaching experience in schools. Background Problems: The issues investigated in this study are how Kampus Mengajar facilitates the development of social awareness and social responsibility among its participants and its relation to leadership potential. Novelty: This paper analyses the Kampus Mengajar program, its impact on developing social awareness and social responsibility, and its correlation with leadership potential among its participants. While the previous batch focused on its impact in addressing learning loss, more research needs to be done on its potential to enhance socioemotional skills. Research Methods: The research method used in this paper is a qualitative analysis of survey data as primary data and a monitoring report as secondary. The data were analysed using thematic analysis to identify keys related to social awareness and social responsibility themes. Finding/Results: The empirical findings suggest that while Kampus Mengajar does facilitate the development of social awareness among its participants, it may not necessarily facilitate social responsibility. Conclusion: The study concludes that Kampus Mengajar facilitates the development of social awareness among its participants but may need to be supplemented with additional interventions to enhance social responsibility. This study has also indicated that implementing socio-emotional learning at schools, which facilitates social awareness, has increased participants' leadership potential.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This research examines the leadership approach implemented in the Kedaireka platform to unify leaders from various sectors. It studies the factors that motivate leaders across sectors to collaborate and the roles played by these leaders. Background Problems: In Indonesia, the Ministry of Education and Culture has established a collaborative ecosystem named Kedaireka. Kedaireka has developed research-based solutions to address societal problems three years after its founding. However, this study represents the first detailed examination of leadership practices within the platform. Novelty: This research focuses on the leadership practices within the Kedaireka ecosystem. The findings of this study serve as a reference for leading multi-actor ecosystems. Research Methods: This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing the case study method. The author employed Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and interviews for data collection. Finding/Results: The author identifies that Kedaireka's foundation is built on shared and agile collaborative leadership within its multi-actor partnerships. The leadership at Kedaireka prioritizes dynamic and transparent communication with stakeholders. A thorough and rigorous monitoring and evaluation system is in place, facilitating the development of impactful research that benefits society. Conclusion: Leadership characterized by humility, innovation, equitable distribution, and a focus on mutual benefits can serve as a model for organizations across Indonesia. These qualities have proven effective within Kedaireka, notably in delivering significant benefits to stakeholders ranging from universities to the industrial sector.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This research explores Dynamic Adaptive Capability to achieve Team Performance in higher education institutions, focusing on the challenges posed by a rapidly changing global environment. The study emphasizes the importance of dynamic adaptability as a mediating variable, connecting Authentic Leadership and Justice Climate as key elements influencing Team Performance. Background Problems: The main question of this research is whether Authentic Leadership improves Team Performance through Dynamic Adaptive Capability. The urgency of this research in Indonesia's higher education context is critical, considering that the ever-changing global environment demands rapid and effective adaptation to remain competitive and relevant. Novelty: Empirical evidence explaining how Authentic Leadership can improve Team Performance in Indonesian higher education still needs to be explored. Therefore, research that finds this mechanism is still required and adds Dynamic Adaptive Capability as a mediator. Research Methods: This research collected a survey of the Head of the Study Program as a team representative, used purposive sampling, and utilized AMOS SEM analysis to test the hypothesis. Finding/Results: The research shows that Authentic Leadership positively impacts Dynamic Adaptive Capability and Team Performance. Meanwhile, Justice Climate has no relationship with Team Performance but positively impacts Dynamic Adaptive Capability. Dynamic Adaptive Capability positively mediates Authentic Leadership and Team Performance while negatively mediating Justice Climate and Team Performance. Conclusion: In addition to supporting several hypotheses, this research also highlights the complex and diverse nature of these relationships, prompting recommendations for strategic planning and further investigation to deepen our understanding of the dynamics in organizational environments.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to decrease the intention of millennial employees to leave startup companies in Indonesia through the roles of Ambidextrous Leadership, Work-Life Balance, Career Development, and job satisfaction. Background Problems: The startup industry in Indonesia is rapidly growing alongside advancements in information and communication technology, yet still faces high turnover rates. Novelty: The uniqueness of this research lies in its focus on Ambidextrous Leadership, which combines exploration, exploitation, and flexibility, aligning well with the millennial generation's penchant for change and the development of new ideas in startup companies. Research Methods: This research adopts a quantitative method with a causal research design. A sample of 300 respondents is chosen through the snowball sampling technique. Data analysis involves utilizing SEM-PLS to examine the research hypotheses. Finding/Results: In the context of startup companies, Ambidextrous Leadership, Work-Life Balance, and Career Development play crucial roles in enhancing job satisfaction and reducing employee Turnover Intention. Conclusion: The managerial implication is that startup company leaders need to adopt an Ambidextrous Leadership approach, prioritize Work-Life Balance, and provide clear Career Development opportunities to retain talent and improve employee satisfaction.

Abstract

Introduction/ Main Objectives: Today's complex global challenges demand that young people develop robust leadership skills, critical thinking abilities, and respectful conduct to address emerging issues effectively. This study aimed to explore the implementation of Interactive game-based learning in building the leadership capacity of students in elementary schools. Background problem: This research is conducted in response to the deficiency in character values and inadequate literacy and numeracy skills among elementary school students. Novelty: This research study elaborates in-depth on the leadership character values that can be applied to elementary school students through game-based learning. Research Method: This research uses a descriptive qualitative method in the form of a case study with a participant observation approach. The study was conducted in 5 elementary schools that are partner schools of the Kampus Mengajar Program in Jepara Regency. Findings/Result: This research shows that the implementation of interactive game-based learning in building students' leadership skills is carried out through four innovative game activities. First, the Harkasi Game (literacy treasure) stimulates leadership values of responsibility and cooperation. Second, the Hitari Game promotes leadership values of self-confidence and critical thinking. Third, the Siberta Game educates leadership values such as creative thinking and empathy. Fourth, the Ultrasi Game stimulates leadership values of honesty and creative thinking. Conclusion: Overall, the interactive game-based learning implemented in the partner elementary schools of the Kampus Mengajar Program has a positive impact on students, with 83% of 53 students showing improved leadership skills. Thus, it can be a solution to build leadership abilities.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to examine the role of job stress and employee engagement of millennial workers mediated by job crafting and moderated by empathetic leadership. Background Problems: Leadership is one of the factors that will affect workforce management. The right leadership is seen to help reduce job stress and increase employee engagement. Novelty: Many studies have attempted to examine the relationship between job stress and employee engagement. Gap research, based on the inconsistency of the results of the research that has been done, is the basis for this study. The existing inconsistency makes this research add the role of job crafting and empathic leadership. Research Methods: This study involved 304 non-managerial workers in Surabaya City, Indonesia, who belong to the Millennial generation category. Finding/Results: The results obtained are that job stress has no effect on job crafting. Empathetic leadership moderates job stress and job crafting. Job crafting does not affect employee engagement. Job stress has a negative effect on employee engagement. Job crafting does not mediate the relationship between job stress and employee engagement, and empathetic leadership moderates the relationship between job stress and employee engagement. Conclusion: Practical implications, leaders need to determine the right leadership model according to the context of workers.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study aims to provide a self-assessment of self-leadership among the Indonesian workforce, contributing to a deeper understanding of self-leadership at the individual level and supporting personal growth and development. Background Problems: As self-leadership increasingly becomes recognized as a key factor in organizational success, there is a need for an assessment tool adapted to the Indonesian context. This study addresses the gap by developing and validating an instrument that measures self-leadership's cognitive and behavioral processes, including behavioral, motivational, and constructive thought patterns. Novelty: This study pioneers the cultural adaptation and validation of a self-leadership assessment tool for the Indonesian workforce. By utilizing a validated self-assessment tool with theoretical and practical implications, this study promotes personal and organizational improvement. Research Methods: Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), with confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability testing applied to evaluate the psychometric properties of the instrument. Finding/ Results: The instrument demonstrated a high level of reliability, with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.933, indicating strong internal consistency. The CFA confirmed the factor structure, with factor loadings exceeding 0.3, affirming the construct validity of the tool. Conclusion: The Indonesian version of the Self-Leadership Questionnaire (SLQ) is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring self-leadership. This study offers a novel contribution by being the first to culturally adapt and validate a self-leadership measure for the Indonesian context and filling a gap in current leadership research.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This study examines the philosophical influence of African traditions, particularly Ubuntu, on servant leadership in Africa and beyond. It seeks to understand how Africa’s rich cultural heritage can shape leaders who prioritize service and employee well-being. Background Problems: Leadership models from the Global North often fail to capture Africa’s unique cultural dynamics, prompting calls for servant leadership rooted in African values. This study explores the intersection of traditional leadership, contemporary practices, and their impact on governance and socio-economic development. Novelty: This study explores the uniqueness of African leadership by analyzing the interplay between traditional values, cultural heritage, modern practices, highlighting how indigenous philosophies can influence contemporary decision-making and leadership dynamics in a global context. Research Methods: Using a systematic literature review, the study draws insights from 59 peer-reviewed articles, online databases, reports, and textbooks. Sources include JSTOR, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Findings/Results: Findings indicate that Ubuntu embodies values such as humanity and collective responsibility, forming a strong foundation for servant leadership models applicable beyond Africa. The literature highlights gaps in Global North models, which often overlook African leadership realities. Additionally, traditional teachings and oral histories contribute to the sustainability of servant leadership in Africa. Conclusion: This study underscores the significant contribution of Ubuntu to the global leadership discourse. It demonstrates the potential of this philosophy to foster ethical, community-driven leadership that transcends cultural boundaries and can be adapted and applied in diverse contexts worldwide.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: This research investigates the moderating effect of authentic leadership on social pressure and budgetary slack. Background Problems: Social pressure is an essential element that influences individual behavior in the organization. The concept of social pressure in the organization emphasizes obedience and peer pressure. However, the stream of research tends to examine obedience and peer pressure separately. Novelty: This research examines the differences between obedience pressure and peer pressure in a testing model by considering the moderating effect of authentic leadership. Research Methods: This study employs an experimental approach with a 2x2 factorial design between subjects involving 100 accounting students. Social pressure was manipulated into two conditions: obedience vs. peer. Authentic leadership is categorized into two categories, namely high vs low. Findings/Results: This research found that the creation of budgetary slack occurs for personal interests and regardless of the level of hierarchy in the work environment. This research found that consistent implementation of authentic leadership can reduce the occurrence of budgetary slack. These findings prove that authentic leadership is able to minimize the adverse consequence of social pressure on budgetary slack. Conclusion: This research shows that management can use authentic leadership as an alternative strategy to encourage a more effective budgeting process.
