Abstract

Scientific literacy which involves the ability to understand scientific concepts, think critically, and apply this knowledge in everyday life, has become one of the main focuses in the Natural Sciences curriculum. The purpose of this research is to analyze the trends in the development of scientific literacy research in elementary school science education through a bibliometric approach. The method used is bibliometric analysis, with four stages of literature search on the Scopus website. The results show that there are three frequently appearing terms or research topics. First, the topic of scientific literacy, which appears 29 times with a link strength of 65, included in cluster 4 colored yellow. Second, the topic of elementary schools, which appears 12 times with a link strength of 52, included in cluster 2 colored green. Third, the topic of students, which appears 10 times with a link strength of 45. Based on the research findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the development of scientific literacy research in elementary science education is still relatively low because this topic has not attracted much attention from researchers in various countries. Therefore, it is recommended that future research focuses on these areas. This implies that these topics can be new areas of interest for authors, readers, or other researchers in this field to explore further. Consequently, future research is advised to discuss these areas.

Abstract

The pandemic has globally become a turning point for social change. Including, the learning process and communication practices becoming more integrated with digital media. This study aims to understand undergraduate students' engagement with media in the post-pandemic era in Indonesia. Drawing on mediatization, this study uses surveys, interviews, and students’ daily notes to collect data. The researcher then visualizes data using Nvivo. Informants are 92 undergraduate students who wrote a daily note from 16th March to June 6th, 2024. The findings show an interrelation between undergraduate students' social dynamics, communication practice, and media engagement. This study reveals distinct patterns in media engagement among Indonesian students that were not previously documented, particularly regarding their adaptation to hybrid learning environments. Government regulations regarding social restrictions do not limit students’ social interaction and learning process. Students’ social interaction and communication practice become more embedded into media usage. The communication practices that are increasingly engaging with media keep continuing even after the pandemic is over. Media are converged so that students do not adopt or are dominated by one type of media. Likewise, students can get information from different types of media.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of ability of prospective teachers in communicating with students which causes the learning process to be less effective. The purpose of this study is to analyze learning communication using the VICS (Verbal Interaction Category Systems) model for prospective vocational teachers in the Teaching Skills Practice (PKM). This research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with case study analysis. The sample is students who are taking part in the Teaching Skills Practice (PKM) at SMK Teknik Bangunan as many as 3 people. Data collection uses interaction observation instruments, interviews and documentation. The results of the study showed that the average frequency of areas A, B, D, E, D, H, I was very high at 46.65% which stated that prospective teachers still dominate during learning activities compared to students, the frequency of areas C, G, J, K, L, M, P, Q, R was 30.37% which stated that there was already feedback interaction between prospective teachers and students, and the frequency of areas N, O, S, T was only 22.98% which stated that student activities were still too passive compared to teachers during the learning process in class. Thus, it can be concluded that learning communication carried out in teaching skills practice is dominated by the teacher.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate vocational school learners' perspectives on the cybergogy approach for an enhanced English language instruction. Utilizing a quantitative research design, the study surveyed 619 students across 17 vocational schools in Yogyakarta Province. The results indicate that the majority of learners find the cybergogy approach engaging and effective, particularly due to its interactive nature and the flexibility it offers. Learners appreciated the ability to access learning resources at their own pace, which is crucial given their varying schedules. However, the study also highlights challenges, including the reliance on consistent access to quality techno-logy, which may limit the approach's effectiveness for some students. The findings underscore the importance of integrating multimedia resources and fostering peer collaboration to enhance English language instruction. The study concludes that while the cybergogy approach shows promise in improving language skills and learner engagement, its implementation must be carefully managed to address technological disparities among students.

Abstract

Integrating modern leadership approaches with local wisdom remains a challenge in enhancing the quality of education in Indonesian higher education institutions. This study examines the impact of integrating instructional leadership with ethnopedagogy based on the Dalihan Na Tolu philosophy on learning quality at Graha Nusantara University. Using a mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design, the study involved 50 lecturers selected through systematic random sampling and 100 students. Data were collected through validated questionnaires (validity coefficients ranging from 0.72 to 0.89; reliability with Cronbach's Alpha of 0.88), in-depth interviews, and participatory observations. The findings reveal that instructional leadership independently accounts for 67 percent of the variation in learning quality (coefficient of determination, R-squared = 0.670, with p < 0.001), with key determinants being guidance (correlation coefficient = 0.820) and vision-mission communication (correlation coefficient = 0.790). Ethnopedagogical leadership contributes significantly through the values of Somba Marhula-hula (regression coefficient = 0.45), Manat Mardongan Tubu (regression coefficient = 0.41), and Elek Marboru (regression coefficient = 0.38). The integration of these approaches produces significant synergistic effects (R-squared = 0.830), resulting in a 70 percent increase in active interaction, a 68 percent improvement in the effectiveness of learning strategies, and a 66 percent boost in productivity. This study contributes to developing an integrated leadership model that combines modern values with local wisdom. It also provides practical implications for designing training programs and implementing dual-approach monitoring systems in higher education institutions.
