Abstract

Scientific literacy is important for helping elementary students understand and explain scientific phenomena. This study aimed to examine the improvement in fifth-grade students’ ability to explain scientific phenomena after learning electricity through electrical circuit teaching aids. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The participants were 20 fifth-grade students at SDN 01 Trans Bangsa Negara during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using a science literacy test focused on the ability to explain scientific phenomena and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test. The mean score increased from 36.80 on the pretest to 79.50 on the posttest. The paired-samples t-test indicated a significant difference, t(19) = 17.778, p < .001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s dz = 3.98). These findings indicate an improvement following the intervention, although the one-group design does not establish a causal effect. Electrical circuit teaching aids may support active learning of electricity concepts.

Abstract

Animated films can function as educational media for developing children’s character because moral values are conveyed through engaging narratives, characters, and conflicts. This study aimed to analyze the character education values and moral messages represented in Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal (2019) and examine their relevance to children’s character development in 21st-century education. A qualitative descriptive content analysis was employed. Data were obtained through repeated observation, documentation, and note-taking of dialogues, character behaviors, visual representations, and narrative events. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing using thematic categorization. The analysis identified six dominant character education values: hard work, curiosity, friendship, peace-loving attitudes, social care, and courage. The film also conveys moral messages concerning cultural preservation, cooperation and helping others, courage and perseverance, forgiveness and compassion, and humility and kindness. These findings indicate that the film has potential as an educational resource for character education in family and elementary school settings.

Abstract

This study aims to map the phonological awareness profile of first-grade students as a basis for planning early reading instruction at SDN 1 Sidorahayu. A quantitative descriptive design was employed involving 28 students in the 2025/2026 academic year selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a phonological awareness test based on Gillon’s model, covering rhyme, alliteration, syllables, onset–rime, phoneme isolation, phoneme blending, phoneme segmenting, and phoneme manipulation. The 25-item instrument used a 0–3 scoring scale, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including means, standard deviations, frequencies, percentages, and component-level scores. Results showed a moderate phonological awareness level (M = 1.72, SD = 0.83). Fourteen students (50.0%) were categorized as high, six (21.4%) as moderate, and eight (28.6%) as low. Syllable awareness was the strongest component (M = 3.00), whereas phoneme blending and manipulation were the weakest (M = 1.25). These findings support early screening and differentiated phonemic instruction to strengthen early reading readiness.

Abstract

This systematic literature review examines the implementation of the deep learning approach in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. Following the PRISMA 2020 framework, empirical studies published between 2020 and 2026 were identified through Google Scholar, Scopus, Semantic Scholar, and the Sinta journal portal. From 287 records identified, 40 studies met the inclusion criteria and were synthesized thematically. The findings indicate that deep learning is associated with positive outcomes in Indonesian language education, particularly in achievement, motivation, literacy, and critical thinking. The three principles of mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning were consistently identified as core components. The review also identified supporting factors, including teacher readiness, institutional support, contextual materials, effective media, and professional development, alongside barriers such as limited teacher understanding, inadequate media, classroom management challenges, and curriculum misalignment. Overall, the evidence highlights the potential of deep learning for student-centered Indonesian language learning and the need for stronger experimental and longitudinal research.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the KOLKA (Kolom Kata) application as a digital learning medium for improving SPOK (Subject, Predicate, Object, and Adverbial) sentence construction among deaf students. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential exploratory design. Six deaf students at SLB BC YPLAB Cibaduyut participated in the study. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while quantitative data were obtained using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data were analyzed using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR), Aiken’s V, Cronbach’s Alpha, and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed very high instrument validity (CVR > 0.99), good reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.76), and high feasibility of the KOLKA application (Aiken’s V > 0.94). Students’ mean scores increased from 44.16 on the pretest to 85.83 on the posttest, with a significant difference (p = 0.026). The findings indicate that KOLKA provides promising support for visual-based sentence learning among deaf students.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of transformational leadership in strengthening student discipline through the development of a school culture grounded in religious values. A qualitative approach was employed using an integrative literature review of sources on transformational leadership, religious school culture, value internalization, and student discipline. Analysis involved data condensation, thematic coding, cross-study comparison, conceptual synthesis, and conclusion drawing with verification. The synthesis indicates that role modeling, habituation, and collaboration are central strategies used to cultivate religious school culture. Religious value internalization develops through moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action, linking value understanding with moral commitment and disciplined behavior. Organizational culture links leadership practices and student discipline. The study proposes a conceptual model that contextualizes Bass’s four transformational leadership dimensions through the Islamic values of amanah, ‘adl, shura, and ihsan as Al-Qudwah, Al-Targhib, Al-Tafkir, and Al-Ta’dib. The model provides a theoretically grounded framework for strengthening character education in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study examines how a madrasah head implements transformational leadership to build sustainable competitive advantage at MTs Modern Bani Adam, Boyolali. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected from three purposively selected informants, namely the madrasah head and two teachers directly involved in flagship programs, through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model with source and technique triangulation. Unlike prior studies that treat the four leadership dimensions as independent, additive predictors, this study shows that they operate as a sequential, culturally embedded process shaped by the madrasah’s Javanese context: exemplary conduct builds trust, vision alignment transforms trust into shared direction, intellectual stimulation channels this direction into innovation, and individualized consideration distributes the resulting capacity across teachers. Theoretically, the study extends Bass and Riggio’s framework beyond its Western corporate origins. Practically, it provides a concrete framework for madrasah leadership training, succession planning, and leadership development.

Abstract

This study uses a qualitative case study to understand how artificial intelligence (AI) is used in learning at the State Polytechnic of Cybersecurity and Cryptography (Poltek SSN), why students use it, and what impacts arise from its use. Data were collected during the 2025/2026 academic year through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The study involved nine informants: five students, three lecturers, and one educational staff member. The data were analyzed thematically and examined through triangulation, member checking, peer debriefing, and an audit trail. The findings identified three main patterns of AI use: as a learning aid, as a substitute for students’ thinking processes, and as learning material. Students mainly used AI to understand learning materials, complete assignments, search for information, overcome limited study time and learning resources, and obtain quick responses. AI provided greater flexibility and efficiency in learning; however, excessive use may reduce students’ cognitive engagement, motivation, and understanding and raise concerns about academic integrity. Therefore, the study recommends strengthening AI literacy, developing clear guidelines for AI use, and integrating AI into learning and assessment while maintaining students’ responsibility for their thinking processes and learning outcomes.
