Abstract

This study examines the career interests of Minangkabau young adults living in Lubuk Linggau using the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) framework. A mixed-methods explanatory sequential design was conducted, starting with quantitative data from 78 members of the Minang Family Association assessed through Holland’s RIASEC model, followed by in-depth qualitative interviews. The findings show that the Realistic type dominates career interests, followed by Artistic, Enterprising, Investigative, Social, and Conventional. Qualitative results reveal that career preferences develop through early apprenticeship experiences, informal skill learning within the merantau tradition, and exposure to entrepreneurial role models in diaspora networks. Internal motivation and self-confidence interact with family expectations, educational pathways, and cultural values emphasizing resilience and independence in work. Theoretically, this study contributes to SCCT by demonstrating cultural migration practices shape self-efficacy and outcome expectations. Practically, the findings suggest the need for culturally responsive career guidance to support youth employability in diaspora contexts. Abstract

Cheating among students is a serious issue that undermines academic integrity and the quality of education. This study explores the relationship between religiosity and cheating behavior among junior high school students. Using a correlational approach, the research involved 77 students to measure religiosity levels and the frequency of cheating behaviors using scales validated for reliability and validity. Simple linear regression analysis revealed a significant effect of religiosity on cheating behavior (p < 0.05), with a 20.3% contribution. These findings indicate that higher levels of religiosity are associated with a lower tendency to cheat. The study suggests integrating character education based on religiosity into the curriculum to enhance academic integrity. Future research is recommended to explore other factors that may mediate this relationship in various cultural and religious contexts. Keywords: cheating behavior, religiosity, guidance and counseling, adolescence

Abstract

Students can generally view conflict positively or negatively. However, a negative view of conflict can trigger division, bullying, and even murder. This study aims to examine the influence of emotion regulation and interpersonal communication on students' perceptions of friendship conflicts. The research method uses a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression. The sampling technique was conducted incidentally, involving 360 psychology students at a state university in Semarang. The instruments used in the study included the friendship conflict perception scale, the emotion regulation scale, and the interpersonal communication scale. The results showed a significant effect (p = 0.000, p < 0.05) of emotion regulation and interpersonal communication on the perception of friendship conflict, with an effect size of 11.3%. These findings show the importance of efforts or interventions to build positive social relationships among students. Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of life story writing on feelings of insecurity among college students who had been temporarily placed with foster parents. Using a qualitative, hermeneutic-phenomenological approach, data were collected through individual counseling with nine students who reported insecurity. The narratives written by participants served as a reflective space for exploring past wounds, alleviating emotional burdens, and forming new understandings of themselves. The results show that writing a life story facilitates self-awareness, uncovers harmful defense mechanisms, and encourages the creation of new meanings from painful experiences. There is a shift from a trauma-centered narrative to a resilience-centered narrative, recognizing self-worth, fostering hope, and building a positive identity. Spiritual dimensions also emerged as a source of strength in making sense of adversity. Thus, life story writing is an effective intervention for helping students manage insecurity and strengthen their psychosocial resilience. Keywords: life story, insecurity, counseling, foster parents

Abstract

The phenomenon of bullying has become a spotlight because it is considered a serious problem that occurs in many schools. This bullying is often experienced by teenagers and can have a negative impact on the psychological condition of the victim. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study research type. Data are collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of bullying experienced by a grade VII student at Islamic State Junior High School 1 Banyumas and to identify the stages of individual counseling services using the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach to help students who are victims of bullying. The results showed that students who were victims of bullying experienced psychological impacts such as a lack of self-confidence, feeling anxious while at school, and preferring to be alone. To address these problems, BK teachers provide individual counseling using the REBT approach. Individual counseling services using the REBT approach consist of 3 stages: the initial stage (identification of irrational thoughts), the working stage (disputation or refutation of irrational thoughts), and the final stage (replacement with more rational thoughts). These findings suggest that individual counseling services with the REBT approach can help students who are victims of bullying to rebuild their self-confidence, think more positively, and accept themselves better. Abstract

This study aims to synthesize the impact of smartphone addiction on adolescent emotional regulation and identify effective intervention strategies. This article presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines, with searches conducted in Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Taylor & Francis for literature published between 2019 and 2024. After undergoing stages of identification, screening, feasibility, and inclusion, 11 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected through a rigorous selection process. The research findings indicate that smartphone addiction correlates with increased psychological symptoms that negatively affect emotional regulation and social interaction among adolescents. This study highlights the need for multidimensional interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, psychoeducation, and social support from parents and teachers. Although these approaches show promising results, evidence of long-term effectiveness remains limited, necessitating further research with a longitudinal design to assess sustainability. These findings also support the development of digital literacy interventions and school-based emotional regulation training to prevent smartphone addiction among adolescents, thereby supporting mental health and reducing the negative impacts of excessive technology use in the digital age. Abstract

Javanese women experiencing involuntary childlessness often face strong cultural pressures that can impact their psychological well-being and marital satisfaction. This study aims to examine the relationship between husband’s social support, self-acceptance, and marital satisfaction in Javanese women with involuntary childlessness. Using a quantitative approach and a multiple-correlation design, data were collected from 157 participants via purposive sampling. Instruments included the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ), Berger's Self-Acceptance Scale, and the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction (EMS) Scale. Analysis using Pearson correlation and multiple regression showed that both husband’s social support and self-acceptance were significantly related to marital satisfaction (F = 96.892; p < 0.001). Social support showed a strong positive correlation (r = 0.712), while self-acceptance had a moderate correlation (r = 0.322), both significant at p < 0.001. These findings highlight the vital role of husband’s support in enhancing self-acceptance and marital satisfaction. The study underscores the importance of relational support within the Javanese cultural context. Keywords: involuntary childlessness, husbands’ social support, marital satisfaction, self-acceptance

Abstract

Slow learners experience substantial deficits in social interaction, yet interventions targeting their social skills development remain underexplored. This study investigated the implementation of Child-Centered Group Play Therapy (CCGPT) to enhance social skills among slow learners in an inclusive elementary school. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed over two months at Bangsri 02 Elementary School, Magetan Regency, Indonesia. Eight slow learners (four male, four female) in grades V and VI were purposively selected. Data were collected through passive participant observation, in-depth interviews with special assistant teachers, and documentation. Analysis followed Miles and Huberman's interactive model, comprising data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Teachers demonstrated adequate competency in implementing the five-stage CCGPT protocol. Of 31 social skill indicators measured across cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control domains, 27 indicators (87.01%) were achieved. However, four indicators remained underdeveloped: self-confidence in interaction, appropriate emotional expression, emotional control, and proper speech tone. Implementation challenges included teachers’ limited psychological backgrounds, inadequate facilities, and cognitive constraints among slow learners. CCGPT shows promise for improving social skills in slow learners. Recommendations include specialized teacher training, provision of therapy rooms, and future research incorporating art elements to enhance emotional expression and self-confidence. Keywords: child-centered group play therapy, social skills; slow learner, inclusive education, qualitative study
