Abstract

Hyperemesis gravidarum, which often occurs in the early stages of pregnancy, can be quite disruptive. However, the majority of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting can be managed with outpatient care and the use of antiemetic medications. In this context, social support, especially from spouses, and the mother's attitude toward hyperemesis gravidarum symptoms can play a role in preventing further development of this condition. This research was conducted to examine the relationship between the mother's attitude and spousal support with the occurrence of Grade II-III hyperemesis gravidarum at the Kaubun Health Center in 2023. The research method used was a correlation study with a cross-sectional approach. The study population involved 32 first-trimester pregnant women who visited the Kaubun Health Center in January 2023, and the entire population was sampled. The results of the statistical analysis using the chi-square test indicated a significant relationship between the mother's attitude (p-value = 0.000) and spousal support (p-value = 0.006) with the occurrence of hyperemesis gravidarum. Therefore, the conclusion of this research is that the mother's attitude and spousal support are associated with the occurrence of Grade II-III hyperemesis gravidarum at the Kaubun Health Center in 2023. Husbands play a crucial role in providing support, understanding, and positive feelings to wives experiencing hyperemesis gravidarum, helping wives feel comfortable and capable of managing these symptoms. A deeper understanding of this condition enables husbands to provide more effective support, contributing to the prevention and management of hyperemesis gravidarum during pregnancy.

Abstract

Emesis gravidarum, or excessive nausea and vomiting during early pregnancy, is a common issue frequently experienced by pregnant women. Most cases of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting can be managed through outpatient care and the use of sedatives and anti-emetics. However, the treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum, a more severe form of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting, can be approached both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. One non-pharmacological approach involves the use of aromatherapy with lemon essential oil and the consumption of ginger-infused beverages. This study aims to analyze the effects of lemon aromatherapy and ginger beverage consumption on reducing emesis gravidarum symptoms in first-trimester pregnant women at the Kaubun Health Center. The research employs a Pretest-Posttest without Control Group design, with a sample of 30 first-trimester pregnant respondents. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test reveals a significant difference in the reduction of emesis gravidarum symptoms between the group receiving lemon aromatherapy and the group consuming ginger beverages, with a p-value of 0.001. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the administration of lemon aromatherapy and ginger beverage consumption has a positive impact on reducing emesis gravidarum symptoms in first-trimester pregnant women. This non-pharmacological approach can be an effective alternative for managing emesis gravidarum during early pregnancy.

Abstract

Scrub is a traditional cosmetic preparation that has been prescribed for generations and is used to remove dead skin cells, dirt, and open pores so that air exchange is free and the skin becomes brighter and whiter. Previous research reported that Gayo Arabica coffee grounds discarded as waste contain antibacterial and antioxidant compounds. Purple sweet potatoes are reported to contain natural antioxidants because they contain anthocyanins and beta-carotene, apart from that, ginger rhizomes are reported to be able to inhibit the growth of bacteria that cause body odor on human skin. Therefore, these three ingredients have the potential to be used as ingredients for making natural powder scrubs. This research aimed to determine the effect of the proportion of Gayo Arabica coffee grounds, purple sweet potato, and ginger rhizome on the finished product of powdered scrub preparations as seen from the stability of their physical quality. The research method used was experimental in the laboratory with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The powder scrub formulation is made in 3 formulas (F1, F2, and F3) by varying the ratio of the amount of Gayo Arabica coffee grounds, purple sweet potato, and ginger rhizome respectively, namely F1 (1:3:1), F2 (2:2: 1) and F3 (3:1:1). The weight of each formula is 100 g. The physical quality stability test of the powder scrub preparation was carried out on the 1st, 7th, and 14th days including organoleptics, water content, homogeneity, pH, drying time, and adhesion. The test results showed that during 2 weeks of storage, the body scrub preparations that were made had met the requirements for good physical quality. In the organoleptic test, the color, shape, and odor of the preparation did not change, the preparation was homogeneous, the pH was stable at 6.2, and the water content was stable at below 10% where the F3 formula showed the lowest water content. The results of the drying time test meet the requirements, namely a minimum of 15 minutes and the adhesion test meets the requirements, namely greater than 1 second.

Abstract

Sky mustard is one of the herbaceous plants used by the community to treat diseases such as inflammation, malaria and fever. This herbaceous plant is believed to have secondary metabolites such as phenolics which have many functions. The aim of this research was to determine the total content of phenolic compounds in leaves and stems of sky mustard greens (Cyanthillium cinereum (L.) H.Rob). This research is experimental in nature, including collecting plant material, identifying plants, cold extraction using the maceration method using ethanol and boiled water as a solvent, phytochemical screening, and determining the total phenolic content of boiled water and equivalent ethanol extract of leaves and stems (Gallic Acid Equivalent (GAE)) or gallic acid by colorimetric method using reagents Folin-ciocalteu a wavelength of 760 nm using UV-Visible spectrophotometry. The result of phytochemical screening of sky mustard leaves and stems contain alkaloids, steroids, saponins, flavonoids, tannin, glycosides and phenols. The result showed that phenol levels were greater in the leaves than in the stem the ethanol solvents attracted more phenolic compounds than boiling, and the phenol by boiling was higher at 5 minutes at 0,649 mg/g GAE. For phenolic compounds using ethanol solvent, there was a yield of 748,33 mg/g extract.
