Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in strengthening the local economy, particularly in rural areas. However, many MSME actors still face limitations in digital marketing capabilities and the utilization of e-commerce platforms. In Wates Village, potato chip MSMEs primarily relied on conventional marketing methods and had not yet adopted digital-based marketing strategies. This community service activity aimed to improve MSME competitiveness through education and mentoring in the use of e-commerce platforms for product marketing. The program employed a participatory training and mentoring approach consisting of socialization, hands-on training, online store creation, product catalog management, product photography, and digital promotion strategies. The activity involved 10 MSME participants, all of whom successfully created and managed online stores on e-commerce platforms. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of digital marketing and e-commerce, with the average score increasing from 45 in the pre-test to 82.5 in the post-test, representing an improvement of 83.3%. In addition, participants demonstrated the ability to upload products, create product descriptions, and apply simple digital promotion techniques independently. The program also contributed to increasing product visibility and expanding market access through digital platforms, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital economy era.

Abstract

The holistic value proposition approach to identifying the information system needs of the Lembaga Kemitraan dan Kajian Strategis (LKKS) of PDM Kota Batu is an initiative aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the institution's operations by developing an information system that has not yet been available within the organization. Information systems play an important role in supporting the institution's strategic activities and partnership programs. The community service method involved a series of in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys to identify users' primary needs and expectations regarding the information system. Pain and Gain analysis was employed to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with implementing the new information system. The results showed that the holistic value proposition approach successfully identified specific needs that were not only functionally relevant but also provided added value for all stakeholders. The implementation of the recommendations from the needs assessment is expected to improve institutional performance and collaboration. The holistic value proposition approach proved effective in identifying comprehensive information system needs and provides a strong foundation for developing a more responsive and value-added information system for LKKS PDM Kota Batu.

Abstract

Efforts to strengthen food security in Sindangwangi Village still face challenges in land management, particularly related to improper soil pH levels that affect soil fertility and crop yields. This community service activity contributed by introducing an Internet of Things (IoT)–based soil pH monitoring device as an educational tool and a decision-support instrument for rice field management. A participatory approach was applied through training sessions, equipment demonstrations, and direct assistance to farmer groups, including sensor installation, real-time data reading via a mobile application, and interpretation of measurement results for land management practices. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in farmers’ understanding, indicated by an increase in the average score from 39% in the pre-test to 83% in the post-test, with an N-Gain value of 0.71. These findings confirm that the implementation of IoT technology in soil pH monitoring effectively enhances farmers’ knowledge and skills. This initiative not only introduced agricultural technological innovation but also supported more precise, efficient, and sustainable rice field management in the context of village food security.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to enhance the digital capabilities and competitiveness of Erlene Handycraft, an SME in Sukoharjo operating in the handicraft sector, through training on Electronic Cash Registers (ECR). The Participatory Action Research (PAR) method was used to ensure the active involvement of partners throughout the entire community service process. The implementation process began with an outreach campaign aimed at introducing the program’s objectives, explaining the benefits of using electronic cash registers, and agreeing on the partners roles in the implementation process. The second phase, training on the cash register system focused on how to speed up transaction processes and accurately record sales. In the third phase, the previously designed ECR system was put into use. The fourth phase, mentoring and evaluation was conducted immediately following the training to ensure the effectiveness of the provided solution. In the final phase, focused on program sustainability, a set of ECR devices was handed over to partners to support business development and record sales transactions. The results of the activity showed a significant positive impact. MSME owners gained a better understanding of the importance of the cash register system in avoiding errors in receipt issuance, which was clearly evident from a comparison of conditions before and after implementation. Financial record keeping became easier and more organized. Understanding of financial record keeping improved, including the ability to calculate inventory inflows and outflows more efficiently. The program’s success was reflected in a 5% increase in revenue.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology provides opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their marketing reach and improve customer service quality. However, many MSMEs still face challenges in utilizing digital technology effectively for marketing and customer communication. According to the MSME Empowerment Report (2022), approximately 70.2% of MSMEs experience difficulties in marketing their products, particularly in developing effective digital marketing strategies and providing responsive customer service. Therefore, this community service program aimed to improve the knowledge, understanding, and skills of MSMEs assisted by the Bandung City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) in utilizing chatbot applications for digital marketing and customer service. The program involved 20 MSME participants and was conducted through lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice using chatbot applications. Evaluation was carried out using questionnaires to measure participants' understanding and satisfaction with the training. The results showed that 100% of participants stated that the program was well organized, 95% agreed that the implementation followed the planned schedule, and 100% reported that the training materials were easy to understand and that the facilitators answered participants' questions clearly. In addition, participants were able to create chatbot accounts, utilize auto-reply features, and develop automated responses to customer inquiries. These findings indicate that chatbot training can improve MSMEs' knowledge, understanding, and skills in utilizing digital technology to support marketing activities and enhance customer service quality.

Abstract

Data processing and analysis skills are essential competencies for students in supporting research activities, particularly questionnaire-based quantitative research. This community service activity aimed to improve the competency of first-semester students in processing and analyzing data using the SPSS application. A total of 300 students participated in the training, which was conducted through lectures, question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and hands-on practice based on questionnaire case studies. Evaluation was carried out using pre-tests and post-tests, and the data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test and the Paired Samples t-test. The results indicated that the data were normally distributed and that there was a significant improvement in students' competencies after the training. Quantitatively, students' competencies increased by 46.8% compared with their pre-training performance. These findings indicate that SPSS training is effective in improving students' data analysis competencies and supporting research readiness from the early stages of higher education.

Abstract

The coastal area of Pantai Amal, Tarakan City, Indonesia, faces two major environmental challenges: the accumulation of post-harvest seaweed biomass waste and increasing coastal abrasion caused by climate change, both of which threaten environmental quality and the sustainability of local livelihoods. This Community Service Program aimed to develop an integrated community empowerment model by combining appropriate technology, mangrove rehabilitation, and institutional strengthening to address seaweed waste management and climate change adaptation. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach through four iterative stages: Plan, Act, Observe, and Reflect, actively involving community members in planning, implementation, evaluation, and program improvement. The results demonstrated the successful installation of two appropriate technology units, namely a portable solar dryer and a biomass chopper, followed by technical training for 30 community participants, all of whom were able to operate the equipment independently after the training. In addition, 1,000 Rhizophora mangrove seedlings were planted in erosion-prone coastal areas, while a tourism website and official social media platforms managed by the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) were established to strengthen digital promotion and community participation. The novelty of this program lies in the integration of circular economy-based seaweed waste management, ecosystem-based mangrove rehabilitation, and community institutional empowerment into a single community service model. This integrated approach contributes to strengthening local capacity in sustainable resource management, enhancing coastal resilience, and supporting the development of Pantai Amal as a sustainable community-based tourism destination.

Abstract

Excessive salt consumption from an early age can shape a lasting preference for salty foods that persists into adulthood and may increase the risk of health problems later in life. This community service activity aimed to improve young children's understanding of the dangers of excessive salt consumption through an interactive demonstration method based on learning by doing. The activity employed an interactive educational approach using demonstrations of salt solutions with different concentrations involving 30 preschool children from KB and TK Al Munawaroh at Bhakta Health Park in April 2026. Evaluation was conducted using simple visual-based pre-tests and post-tests, as well as observations and educational games. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively by comparing pre-test and post-test scores. The results showed improvements in participants' understanding across all indicators. The ability to recognize healthy foods increased from 40% to 90%, understanding of the dangers of excessive salt consumption increased from 30% to 80%, and the ability to visually identify different salt concentration levels increased from 0% to 70%. All indicators met the program's success criterion, with at least 70% of participants answering correctly in the post-test. The findings indicate that the interactive demonstration method is effective in improving young children's understanding of healthy salt consumption and can serve as an alternative health education strategy from an early age.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve students’ reading literacy through training in the Power Notes strategy for descriptive texts at SMP Yabes School. The program was designed to provide an active, structured, and practical learning experience in understanding English texts. The main problem addressed was students’ limited ability to identify main ideas, find supporting details, recognize specific information, and understand descriptive texts comprehensively. The activity employed a participatory training and mentoring approach consisting of preliminary observation, material development, strategy training, guided practice, evaluation, and reflection. The participants were 30 eighth-grade students of SMP Yabes School. Data were collected through observation, pre-test and post-test, student worksheets, and participant response questionnaires. The findings indicate that students’ reading literacy improved after the training. The score for identifying main ideas increased from 60 to 85, finding supporting details from 58 to 82, identifying specific information from 55 to 80, and overall text comprehension from 57 to 84. Students also gave positive responses, with an agreement level of 80%–85%, reflecting higher motivation, engagement, and confidence in learning English. The program produced a Power Notes training module, student worksheets, and measurable improvement in students’ reading literacy skills. These results suggest that the Power Notes strategy is effective in supporting reading literacy training and can be applied as an innovative instructional strategy in school-based community service programs.
