Abstract

In Cibiru Wetan, Bandung, cows' milk production reaches 5,000 liters per day, but most of it is not absorbed by the cooperative because it does not meet quality standards and is ultimately wasted. This highlights the gap between production potential and post-harvest processing capabilities at the farmer level. Training in processing milk into yogurt using simple technology can reduce waste while also opening up opportunities for public health and local entrepreneurship. The community service activity entitled "Training on the Utilization of Cow’s Milk as a Health Product in Cibiru Wetan Village, Bandung Regency" aimed to empower local dairy farmers in managing excess or substandard milk by turning it into yogurt, a functional health product. The method consisted of direct education, practical demonstrations, and mentoring in yogurt production using simple fermentation techniques, followed by pre- and post-test evaluations. A pre- and post-test evaluation showed an increase in participants’ knowledge from 45% to 89% of the 25 participants, 80% successfully produced yogurt with acceptable sensory quality, and 60% expressed interest in selling it as a home business. These outcomes indicate that the training not only improved technical skills but also fostered local entrepreneurship, contributing to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Most participants succeeded in producing yogurt with acceptable sensory quality and expressed interest in selling it. The activity showed that with adequate training and support, local communities can utilize available resources to improve health and economic outcomes. This program also encouraged sustainable practices and provided a model that could be replicated in other rural areas with similar conditions. The results underline the importance of community-based education and technology transfer in promoting food security and local entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) is a strategic effort to enhance community health self-reliance, reduce dependence on synthetic drugs, and preserve local biodiversity. In Nagari Batu Tanjung, Talawi District, Sawahlunto City, the potential for TOGA is high due to favorable geography and extensive backyard land. However, its use remains limited because of low herbal literacy, minimal organic cultivation skills, and the absence of a properly managed communal garden. This community service program aimed to empower residents through education, direct practice, and guidance in cultivating and processing medicinal plants. Activities included awareness sessions on TOGA’s benefits, land preparation, planting of herbal seeds (ginger, turmeric, cardamom, sungkai, Java turmeric, aloe vera), and the establishment of a model TOGA garden. Based on pre- and post-test results from 40 participants, knowledge and cultivation skills improved significantly—from 40% to 95% of participants understanding proper TOGA cultivation. Active collaboration among residents, village officials, and students ensured the program’s success. Through Q&A sessions and hands-on practice, the community gained practical skills suited to local conditions. The established TOGA garden now serves as a learning medium, a health-supporting initiative, and a foundation for developing herbal products that promote sustainable economic empowerment.

Abstract

The Balai Kaliki Cultural Village in Payakumbuh City holds great potential for developing a creative economy rooted in traditional Minangkabau culinary heritage. However, this potential remains underutilized, particularly in terms of product innovation, packaging, and marketing. This community service program aimed to enhance the community’s skills in processing, packaging, and promoting innovative karipap products as a step toward developing local creative economy enterprises. The program was conducted in three stages: preparation, which included a needs assessment and coordination with local stakeholders; training, focused on hygienic food processing, innovative recipe development, packaging design, and social media–based branding; and evaluation and mentoring, which involved skill assessments and business sustainability planning. Ten participants, consisting of women and young women from the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), were selected purposively. The findings showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills, with the average test score increasing to 85%. Participants successfully created three new product variations and established social media accounts for marketing purposes. Overall, this program successfully empowered the local community through skill enhancement in culinary innovation, packaging, and digital promotion. It contributes to the advancement of local creative economies while supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly poverty alleviation and food security, and reinforcing Minangkabau cultural identity through local culinary innovation.

Abstract

Public health is one of the key aspects of sustainable development. This community service activity aims to improve public health through nutritional status assessments conducted during the Car Free Day (CFD) event in Padang City. The methods used include nutritional status measurement, nutrition education, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Health measurements included assessments of body weight, height, fat mass, muscle mass, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, uric acid levels, and hemoglobin levels. Education was delivered through interactive sessions and the distribution of leaflets on healthy eating patterns and clean-living behaviors. The impact of the education was evaluated qualitatively through testimonials from participants who took part in both the health check and educational sessions. Participants shared their experiences regarding changes in their dietary habits and healthy lifestyle practices after participating in the program. Several participants stated that they had begun adopting healthier lifestyles, such as paying more attention to food intake, increasing physical activity, and feeling the benefits of a fitter body. Based on these testimonials, this activity demonstrated an increase in awareness and the adoption of healthy living behaviors among the community. Therefore, interventions through health assessments and nutrition education have been proven to contribute to encouraging positive behavioral changes within the community.

Abstract

The increasing by-products from sugarcane and coffee consumption have resulted in a greater volume of sugarcane bagasse and coffee waste with potential environmental impacts. Physically and chemically, coffee and sugarcane waste can be processed into soap products without further processing. This community service activity aimed to provide education and practical skills in utilising coffee and sugarcane waste as raw materials for hand soap production. The activity was conducted at the Baitussalam Mosque in Gadut, Padang City, with 20 participants. The implementation methods included material presentation, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in liquid soap formulation. The soap formula used sugarcane and coffee waste as the main ingredients with additional components including Texapon as a surfactant, EDTA as a chelating agent, salt as a viscosity regulator, warm water, and fragrance. The findings indicated that participants comprehended the potential of utilising sugarcane and coffee waste, allowing them to produce a basic liquid soap product for daily usage. Soap made from sugarcane and coffee waste has the potential to become an organic product with antioxidant and antimicrobial benefits for the skin. This activity aims to increase public awareness of the importance of waste management and promote the development of environmentally friendly, nature-based creative enterprises.

Abstract

Stunting is still a public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in one with less of nutrition and health knowledge. It results in long-term impacts on learning, cognitive development, productivity, and risk of noncommunicable diseases. The relationship between home visits by community health workers and the concomitant effect of digital innovations to prevent stunting can be seen in this study, where it was conducted in Nagari Dusun Baru Tapan, Pesisir Selatan, West Sumatra. These community services were incorporated into the 2025 Community Service Program of Andalas University which included promo-gizi, local processed food processing training and monitoring of nutritional status in toddlers using Android-based application GiziAnakKu. The program was centered around 1,000 days of life as a crucial window period for child development through nutrition, including the practice of exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding and balanced diet behaviors. Results from surveillance showed that most of the toddlers possessed acceptable nutrition (85.3%), however, 14.7% were stunted and 8.8% had an increased risk of overnutrition indicating double burden of malnutrition. Attendees appreciated the training and reinforced the value of sustainable community-based intervention. Through empowerment of community health workers and use of digital technology, the present study adds to definitions for comprehensive stunting prevention that can become best practice in similar areas.

Abstract

Mental health remains a significant global challenge, including in Padang City, where community-based services are not yet fully optimized. In Ganting Village, posyandu cadres have limited capacity to conduct early detection of mental health disorders, which may hinder timely intervention. This community engagement initiative was designed to enhance mental health literacy and strengthen cadres’ competencies through the Community Mental Health Nursing (CMHN) approach. The program employed a combination of socialization, structured health education on the concept of mental well-being, hands-on training in the use of validated screening tools (PHQ-2, GAD-2, and EPDS), and field-based mentoring. Evaluation was carried out using pre- and post-tests as well as observational assessments of cadre participation was conducted on August 8, 2025.Findings revealed an increase in the average knowledge score from 6.0 to 8.0 (33% improvement). Cadres demonstrated improved soft skills in conceptual understanding and hard skills in administering screening instruments. Importantly, they were able to identify cases of postpartum depression, underscoring the practical relevance of the intervention. Overall, the program proved effective in preparing cadres as community change agents in mental health promotion. Empowering local cadres through CMHN contributes to strengthening preventive strategies and advancing Ganting Village toward a mental health–ready community.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health issue, particularly among adolescents in densely populated school environments with poor ventilation. This community service aimed to strengthen TB prevention and control efforts through the establishment and empowerment of “PEKA TB” (Pencegahan dan Penanggulangan Tuberkulosis) cadres at SMPN 31 Padang. The activity employed a pre–post test design with an educational and participatory approach, involving 34 students from grades VIII and IX as peer health cadres. The intervention consisted of interactive lectures, discussions, and simulations on TB transmission, prevention, and the PEKA TB framework (Examine–Educate–Coordinate–Act). Evaluation using structured questionnaires measured knowledge, attitude, and practice before and after the intervention. The results showed significant improvements across all variables, indicating that peer-based education effectively enhanced students’ awareness, attitudes, and preventive behaviors toward TB. The empowerment of adolescent cadres successfully fostered active participation in school health promotion and strengthened collaboration between schools and local health authorities. This initiative demonstrates that student-centered, peer-led education is a sustainable strategy to create a healthy, TB-free school environment.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competitiveness of a small curtain business through digital marketing assistance. The home-based enterprise faces challenges in effectively promoting its products, due to lack access to e-commerce platforms, or social media management tools essential for modern marketing. The program, conducted over a one-week period, employed methods including training, technical mentoring, and direct implementation of digital marketing strategies, such as creating social media business accounts, writing compelling descriptions, and utilizing e-commerce platforms to expand market reach. Success is evaluated through indicators such as increased partner knowledge, the number of digital interactions, and increased sales following the mentoring program. The program's results demonstrate significant improvements in partners' ability to manage their business's social media and produce engaging promotional content. This program demonstrates that implementing a practical training-based digital marketing strategy can be an effective solution to address promotional limitations for small home-based businesses and contribute to strengthening the digital-based local economy.
