Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of public speaking anxiety experienced by first-year students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of a private university in Cianjur, West Java, during the 2023/2024 academic year. A quantitative research approach was employed, involving 27 students (21 females and 6 males) aged between 18 and 19 years. Data were collected using a five-point Likert scale questionnaire adapted from McCroskey’s (2009) Personal Report of Public Speaking Apprehension (PRPSA), which consists of 34 statements (12 negative and 22 positive). The collected data were analyzed statistically by calculating the mean and standard deviation to identify patterns and trends in students' public speaking anxiety levels. The findings revealed that 18% of students experienced high levels of public speaking anxiety, 63% reported moderate anxiety levels, and 19% exhibited low anxiety levels. The students experienced both process anxiety and performance anxiety. The results of this study serve as a foundation for developing intervention programs aimed at addressing students' speaking anxiety and enhancing their public speaking skills.

Abstract

Kajian ini telah dijalankan di sekolah-sekolah ugama di Negara Brunei Darussalam. Tujuan kajian ini dijalankan adalah untuk meninjau pelaksanaan pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab di sekolah-sekolah ugama dari segi kesediaan guru-guru ugama, cara pelaksanaan pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab dalam kalangan guru-guru ugama, disamping untuk mengenal pasti masalah dan cabaran yang dihadapi oleh guru-guru ugama dalam pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab. Responden kajian terdiri dari 133 orang guru ugama yang mengajar mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab di sekolah-sekolah ugama. Reka bentuk kajian ini ialah berbentuk tinjauan deskriptif dan instrumen kajian yang digunakan ialah soal selidik. Hasil dapatan kajian yang dianalisa menggunakan perisian Statistical Package for Social Sciences v.20 (SPSS) menunjukkan bahawa guru-guru ugama bersedia untuk mengajar mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab, akan tetapi terdapat beberapa isu yang timbul dalam melaksanakan pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab tersebut. Manakala hasil dapatan dari analisis Crosstab di antara empat daerah tidak menunjukkan perbezaan yang signifikan dalam pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab sama ada dari segi tahap kesediaan, cara pelaksanaan pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab serta masalah dan cabaran yang dihadapi oleh guru ugama dalam pengajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Arab di sekolah ugama.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' interest and learning outcomes in short story material through the application of contextual learning models in class XI DKV SMK Muhammadiyah 4 Kalisat. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of three cycles with stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the study showed that the application of contextual learning significantly increased student engagement, created a more relevant learning experience, and strengthened their literacy skills. The success of this learning was also influenced by the active role of the teacher as a facilitator who helped students connect the material to real life. In the first cycle, student engagement was still low because the methods used were less interesting and tended to be monotonous. However, in the second cycle, there was an increase in participation even though there were still some obstacles in implementing the learning strategies that had been applied. The third cycle showed more optimal results, with increased motivation, understanding, and students' ability to analyze and appreciate short stories in more depth. The application of a contextual approach not only has a positive impact on student learning outcomes, but also provides a more meaningful and enjoyable learning experience. This finding contributes to the development of literature learning strategies in vocational education, especially in linking materials to the industrial world and students' daily lives. Thus, innovation in learning methods is needed to create a more effective, relevant, and appropriate learning process for students in the modern era.

Abstract

This systematic review evaluates TikTok‘s possible use as a modern language evaluation tool in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. While the app remains popular as an informal learning and entertainment tool, its use as a formal evaluative instrument is largely unexplored. The review focused on 16 papers published between 2018 and 2025 and revealed patterns regarding task types, benefits, challenges, and implications associated with TikTok for language assessment. Findings show that the use of TikTok can foster engagement, motivation, and creativity and enable authentic performance assessment. However, several barriers limit the use of the platform for formal evaluation, including the short video timing, assessment rubric validity, reliability construction challenges, and restricted technological access. The review calls for educators to provide guidelines and normative instructions concerning TikTok assessments designed alongside pedagogical and technical constraints. In summary, TikTok has the potential to shift the paradigm of language assessment towards a more integrated and situated evaluation of linguistic competencies. Subsequent studies need to create specific assessment criteria regarding the effectiveness of TikTok for testing, examine the versatile skills being assessed, and assess the sustained impact of the evaluation on students’ speaking abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the conversations between Mr. Hundert and Sedgewick Bell in The Emperor’s Club through a qualitative case study with genre-based discourse analysis, grounded in Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics. By employing techniques such as framing, foregrounding, backgrounding, and presupposition, the study reveals how linguistic choices reinforce ideological conflicts between moral idealism and pragmatic ambition. The findings suggest that these ideological tensions reflect broader dilemmas in character education, especially relevant to Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka and the Pancasila Student Profile. The study has implications for literature-based pedagogy and ethical development in classroom settings.

Abstract

Kartu kejujuran adalah media yang efektif dan dapat membantu orang tua dan guru untuk menanamkan nilai kedisiplinan puasa ramadhan peserta didik di SDN 2 Langon. Dan untuk memudahkan orang tua untuk mengontrol ibadah puasa anak ketika dilingkungan rumah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implementasi kartu kejujuran dalam meningkatkan kedisiplinan puasa Ramadhan di SDN 2 Langon serta mengidentifikasi dampak dari penggunaan kartu tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek utama penelitian ini yaitu peserta didik di SDN 2 langon yang menggunakan kartu kejujuran selama bulan Ramadhan. Selain itu guru Pendidikan agama islam serta wali murid yang yang berperan memantau aktifitas peserta didik di lingkungan keluarga. Pengumpulan data didapatkan melalui observasi langsung, wawancara dengan beberapa siswa, guru Pendidikan agama islam dan wali murid. Serta dokumentasi terkait pengunaan kartu kejujuran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi kartu kejujuran di SDN 2 Langon membantu meningkatkan kedisiplinan puasa Ramadhan peserta didik dengan memberikan bukti konkret pelaksanaan puasa, memperkuat pembelajaran karakter melalui keterlibatan orang tua dan guru, serta menumbuhkan kesadaran dan tanggung jawab pribadi siswa terhadap ibadah puasa.

Abstract

This study explores the use of the Logico Maximo game as an interactive medium to support vocabulary acquisition among young EFL learners at ILC English Course. Data was collected through student questionnaires, interviews with a fellow teacher and course manager, and classroom observation using a descriptive qualitative methodology. According to the results, Logico Maximo creates a more expanding, interesting, and enjoyable learning environment. The game's sensory and visual elements were well received by the students, encouraging active engagement and enhancing vocabulary memory. Nevertheless, the study also noted a varietyof difficulties, such as differing student comprehension levels, time management issues, and practical limitations in game implementation. Despite these issues, both the teacher and stakeholders viewed the game as an effective tool for enriching vocabulary learning. The results support previous research on the benefits of game-based learning in EFL contexts, particularly for early learners who thrive on multimodal and play-based instruction. It is suggested that future implementations include task differentiation and additional support mechanisms to accommodate learners with diverse needs.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis peluang serta tantangan integrasi Artificial Intelligence (AI) dalam evaluasi pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dengan menggunakan metode studi pustaka (library research). Data dikumpulkan melalui penelusuran dan analisis literatur primer dan sekunder yang relevan, baik berupa jurnal, buku, maupun hasil penelitian sebelumnya yang membahas implementasi AI pada bidang pendidikan, khususnya PAI. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi AI berpotensi meningkatkan efisiensi, objektivitas, dan personalisasi dalam proses evaluasi pembelajaran PAI, seperti melalui otomasi penilaian, analisis data pembelajaran, serta pemberian umpan balik adaptif kepada peserta didik. Namun, tantangan yang dihadapi meliputi keterbatasan literasi digital guru, infrastruktur teknologi yang belum merata, serta isu etika dan privasi data. Studi ini merekomendasikan perlunya penguatan kompetensi digital pendidik, pengembangan kebijakan etis, serta kolaborasi lintas disiplin untuk optimalisasi pemanfaatan AI dalam evaluasi pembelajaran PAI. Dengan demikian, integrasi AI dapat menjadi solusi inovatif yang adaptif terhadap perkembangan teknologi dan kebutuhan pendidikan agama Islam di era digital.

Abstract

Speaking remains one of the most challenging skills for EFL students in Indonesia. Many students face anxiety and lack of opportunities to practice speaking English in authentic contexts. This Classroom Action Research was carried out to develop the speaking abilities of 6B2 students at SMP Negeri 5 Malang by applying the role-play method. The research was implemented in two cycles, involving 33 students, and utilized a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected through classroom observations, pre-test, post-test, and students’ questionnaires. The results showed that students’ ability in speaking had greatly improved. After the first cycle, the average score rose from 48 on the pre-test to 73, and it further increased to 82 on the second cycle of the post-test. Moreover, in the final post-test, 91% of students received the minimum passing grade (≥ 75), up from 6% on the pre-test. The qualitative data supported these results, indicating increased student motivation, reduced anxiety, and enhanced self-assurance when speaking English. The findings suggest that the role-play method is effective in developing students’ speaking ability, motivation, and confidence in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

The intention of this study is to evaluate the preparedness of junior high school English teachers in Bengkulu Utara to implement deep learning strategies in their classrooms. The application of deep learning methodologies, which emphasize active engagement, critical thinking, and real-world application, purpose to target improvement, communication, and student outcomes. The study applied a structured questionnaire to evaluate the knowledge, skills and attitudes of 50 teachers towards deep learning. The findings indicated that while teachers displayed considerable knowledge (mean = 3.9) and favourable attitudes (mean = 4.1), their competencies in implementing these strategies were less advanced (mean = 3.7). The study's findings underscore the necessity for ongoing professional development to refine teachers' practical skills, especially in the fields of lesson design and technological integration, therefore ensuring the optimal utilization of deep learning in English language pedagogy.
