Abstract

The majority of products produced by micro business actors in Lomaer Village, Blega District, had not been halal-certified due to limited understanding and a lack of socialization, education, and assistance regarding halal certification. This condition encouraged the community service team to address the issue through a structured program. The purpose of this activity was to conduct training and mentoring on halal certification to help micro business actors improve their product quality and obtain halal certificates. The implementation methods included observation, idea planning, and a series of activities consisting of training and mentoring. The process began with the creation of a Business Identification Number (NIB), completion of business actor data onhttp://ptsp.halal.go.id, submission of facilitation registration data through the LPH Halal Center UTM, and registration of Sihalal business accounts. The outcomes of this program included increased awareness and understanding of the importance of halal certification, improved knowledge of the certification process among micro business actors, and their ability to identify halal and non-halal ingredients. As a result, five products from business actors in Lomaer Village successfully obtained halal certification.

Abstract

The utilization of coconut in Namangkewa Village was previously limited to personal consumption, despite the fact that the village possessed significant potential that had not yet been optimized to enhance its economic value. The objective of this community service initiative was to empower KWT Suka Maju through comprehensive training in coconut fruit processing. The training approach encompassed socialization, practical training, implementation, and subsequent evaluation. Results from this initiative revealed a marked improvement in participants' skills in transforming coconuts into high-value products. Processed products such as Virgin Coconut Oil demonstrated strong potential to substantially boost the household income of KWT members. The program also fostered greater awareness among participants regarding the importance of leveraging local resources to strengthen the village's economic stability. Despite challenges related to access to production equipment and marketing, continuous guidance was considered crucial to ensure the sustainability of integrated coconut processing ventures. This program proved that skill development in coconut processing could be a viable strategy for the economic upliftment of rural communities.

Abstract

The rate of postpartum contraceptive use remained relatively low. Based on data from BKKBN, only around 36% of mothers used postpartum contraception. The low utilization of Postpartum Family Planning (PFP) increased the risk of closely spaced pregnancies, which contributed to high maternal and infant mortality rates (MMR and IMR). PFP played a significant role in reducing MMR and stunting. In 2022, according to Senior Expert of the Presidential Staff Office, Dr. Brian Sri Prahastuti, the achievement of PFP was only around 35,78% of the 40% target. Various factors influenced the low acceptance of postpartum contraceptives, with lack of knowledge being one of the primary causes. This lack of knowledge and family support was also due to the limited dissemination of information, resulting in pregnant women and their families being unaware of the importance of PFP. This activity aimed to promote PFP by empowering pregnant women through the use of a digital booklet. The implementation followed five stages: planning, action, observation, evaluation, and reflection. The activity was conducted on November 19, 2024, in the pregnant women’s class at TPMB Nomretti. The results showed an increase in maternal knowledge after counseling through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) using the digital booklet, with average knowledge scores increasing from 4,9 to 8,9. In addition, five out of eight pregnant women stated that they intended to use PFP, two with IUDs and three with implants. In conclusion, PFP achievement could be improved if counseling was provided to pregnant women using engaging educational media.

Abstract

Long-term contraceptive methods (LTCM) are methods designed to prevent pregnancy over a long period of time. According to WHO (2019), of the 1.9 billion women of childbearing age (15-49 years) in the world, around 1.1 billion require family planning services. There are 406 million modern contraceptive users, consisting of 159 million IUDs, 23 million implants, 74 million injections, and 150 million pills. This activity aimed to increase Women of Reproductive Age (WRA) knowledge about LTCM through socialization. The activity began with the licensing process, preparation of leaflet media containing LTCM information and scheduling of implementation. The activity was carried out at the integrated health post in the Bara-Barayya Health Center working area on June 28, 2024 assisted by a coordinating midwife and cadres with 23 WRA participants. The socialization carried out included pre-tests and post-tests, delivery of material on the types, benefits, risks, and how to use LTCM, as well as interactive discussions and questions and answers to encourage active participation of participants. Evaluation was carried out to measure the increase in knowledge. Before socialization, 18 (78,3%) had good knowledge, 5 (21,7%) had poor knowledge. After socialization, 21 (91,3%) had good knowledge and only 2 (8,7%) had poor knowledge. In conclusion, there was an increase in knowledge after socialization. Continued support and attention are needed so that the use of LTCM P is effective in regulating pregnancy spacing and preventing unwanted pregnancies. WRA are advised to continue to increase their knowledge of contraceptive methods.

Abstract

Cataracts are one of the main causes of blindness in Indonesia, especially in lower-middle class communities who have limited access to eye health information. Through an education program in the pre-prosperous communities of Tangerang, an intervention was carried out to improve participants' knowledge and behavior regarding cataracts. This program involved collaboration between eye specialists (ophthalmologists), as the main resource persons, and optometris health workers who actively participate. The methods used included providing interactive education by ophthalmologists regarding the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of cataracts, which were complemented by discussion sessions and knowledge evaluation through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. A total of 80 participants filled out a questionnaire containing 10 closed questions before and after education. The results of the analysis showed an increase in the average score of 30,3%. All participants showed an increase in understanding after receiving education, marked by no scores below 67 on the post-test. This activity shows that an educational approach that was adjusted to the community's literacy level is effective in increasing awareness of eye health, especially in preventing blindness due to cataracts.

Abstract

Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) can serve as an effective platform to explore members’ understanding of the code of ethics, identify challenges, and formulate reinforcement strategies aligned with religious values. This community service activity was carried out in April 2025 at the Headquarters of the Medan City Police, aiming to strengthen the Code of Ethics of the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) among its members. By utilizing FGDs focused on religious character, this initiative addressed the potential erosion of ethical compliance due to work pressure and complex environments. Religious values were regarded as a strong moral foundation. The program included problem identification, planning, participatory FGD sessions with religious-based materials and case studies, and impact evaluation. The results showed improved understanding of the code of ethics and the relevance of religious character, evidenced by enhanced ethical dilemma analysis, increased commitment to religious values, and more proactive problem-solving. Active participation and positive feedback confirmed the members’ readiness for self-reflection and heightened motivation to implement the code of ethics and religious values.

Abstract

Based on the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey, the prevalence of stunted toddlers in Papua remained high at 34,6%, with Jayapura Regency specifically recording a rate of 20,2%. This issue needed to be addressed seriously in order to accelerate the reduction of stunting. Providing an appropriate modified MP-ASI (complementary feeding) formula was associated with improving the nutritional status of toddlers. MP-ASI could also be subsidized with local food sources, supporting the government’s efforts in diversifying food consumption. Posyandu cadres required training in preparing MP-ASI using local food ingredients to assist mothers of toddlers in providing balanced and nutritious meals. The purpose of this community service activity was to conduct training and mentoring for Posyandu cadres in Nolokla Village, East Sentani District, on how to produce MP-ASI. The community service design employed a community-based participatory approach using lectures, group discussions, and hands-on practice. The training was conducted over the course of one day, using tilapia fish and kepok bananas as main ingredients, processed into biscuits. A total of seven cadres from Posyandu Maleo 1 participated in the activity. This activity was implemented from May to November 2024. The results demonstrated an improvement in both the knowledge and skills of the cadres, with pre-test scores increasing by 15 points after the intervention. The training effectively enhanced the cadres’ ability to process MP-ASI from local food ingredients and is expected to become a sustainable, community-based intervention for stunting prevention.
