Abstract

Aging is a natural process in the human life cycle. The increase in life expectancy has a positive impact on quality of life, but it also brings various consequences, one of which is the decline in physical and cognitive functions. As they age, the elderly become more susceptible to musculoskeletal disorders, which in turn increase the risk of falling. This community service activity aimed to enhance the understanding and awareness of the elderly regarding the importance of preventing falls and musculoskeletal disorders through ergonomic education and posture screening. The activity, themed "Ergonomics for Elderly Safety," was organized by the Physiotherapy Study Program, Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, on December 15, 2023, at the Tamalanrea Health Center, involving 30 elderly participants from the Prolanis program. The series of events included ergonomic counseling, demonstrations of ergonomic exercises, and posture screening using the Functional Reach Test and the Apley Scratch Test. The results of the Functional Reach Test showed an average reach of 26,88 cm, indicating a low risk of falling. Meanwhile, the Apley Scratch Test results revealed an average reach of 9,82 cm for the right arm and 16,95 cm for the left arm, reflecting the presence of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in the left upper extremity. These findings highlight the importance of continuing ergonomic education and posture screening programs as part of preventive efforts to reduce the risk of falls and musculoskeletal disorders in the elderly.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, halal certification has become a crucial element in the marketing of food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals, particularly for culinary businesses. This is due to the increasing demand from Muslim consumers who require products that comply with halal standards. In Islam, consumed food and products must be halal and thoyyib, as prescribed in the Qur'an and Hadith. However, most SMEs businesses in Desa Masaingi have yet to obtain halal certification, which ensures that their products and services meet the halal standards set by the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH). This community service aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of both the community and business actors about the importance of halal certification, halal production processes, and the market opportunities that can open up by obtaining such certification. The methods used included location observation, inspection of home industries, education on halal and thoyyib products, and registration for Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and halal certification through the OSS application and BPJPH official website. The results of this community service showed that these activities successfully improved the community's understandingof halal principles and motivated culinary business actors to obtain halal certification. Consequently, culinary business actors in Desa Masaingi, particularly in the Pangi tourist area, are expected to be more open to the halal certification process and enhance their product competitiveness in broader markets.

Abstract

Ranah Singkuang Village in Kampar Regency continues to face cases of stunting among toddlers, despite the local stunting prevalence rate being below the national target. One of the mitigation efforts involves utilizing local food sources, specifically catfish (Pangasius), as an accessible and affordable source of animal protein for the community. This Community Service Program aimed to improve the knowledge of mothers with toddlers through nutrition education and training in processing catfish into supplementary food in the form of dim sum. Evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments indicated a significant improvement in mothers’ knowledge regarding stunting and nutrition. Additionally, training participants demonstrated adequate skills in preparing catfish-based dim sum. These findings suggest that educational activities and cooking demonstrations are effective in enhancing mothers’ knowledge and skills in utilizing catfish as supplementary food for toddlers.

Abstract

Failure to thrive in children is influenced by the quality of food consumed. Children aged six months and above require complementary feeding as a nutritional supplement, which should be prepared with texture suitable for their age to ensure digestibility. Local fish, containing low allergencity protein, is a recommended choice for complementary feeding. This activity aimed to enhance knowledge among mothers of toddlers, particularly those with children aged 6–12 months, about complementary feeding using local ingredients. The participants were mothers active in Naluri Posyandu and Kencana Posyandu in Panglayungan Village, Tasikmalaya City. The method involved stages of activity, including (1) monitoring child weight and (2) providing nutritional education on complementary feeding. The nutritional status monitoring showed that 20,00% of toddlers in Naluri Posyandu were stunted, with 9,00% severely stunted. While in Kencana Posyandu, 21,00% were stunted and 6,00% severely stunted. Through educational activities, mothers’ knowledge significantly improved, with pretest scores averaging 5.87 and posttest scores 8.02. The Wilcoxon test confirmed a significant difference in knowledge before and after intervention (p-value =0,000, p-value <0,05). This program had a positive impact on enhancing maternal knowledge. It is recommended that posyandu continue regular educational activities on complementary feeding and related topics, either through posyandu cadres or in collaboration with relevant institutions.

Abstract

Abstract The Village Information System (SiDesa) was developed to facilitate data management, administrative services, and communication between the village government and the community. In addition, it served as a platform to promote local potential in the village area. The purpose of this community service activity was to optimize the use of SiDesa and enhance local potential through the socialization of palm sugar granule (ant sugar) production as a functional food. This activity was part of a thematic KKN (student community service) program conducted by students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare, located in Benteng Paremba Village, Lembang District, Pinrang Regency. The implementation of the program included population data collection and content entry into the SiDesa website. Local potential development was carried out by socializing the process of converting brown sugar into ant sugar, a functional food product with high economic value. The activity involved training local residents on how to produce ant sugar. The production process began by grinding the brown sugar, cooking it over medium heat until it melted, then turning off the stove while stirring the mixture until it solidified and dried, after which it was filtered and packaged. As a result of this program, the use of SiDesa was expected to become more optimal in providing complete village profile information, facilitating administrative procedures for residents, and serving as a promotional tool for local potential and tourism in Benteng Paremba Village.

Abstract

The high volume of captured fisheries is utilized by coastal communities as a livelihood source by processing the catch into value-added products such as fish crackers. This community service program aimed to improve the digital literacy of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) actors to support business development and MSME advancement. Conducted from April to November 2024 at the Sei Lekop Fish Crackers Industry Center in Bintan Regency, the program targeted seven Joint Business Groups (Kelompok Usaha Bersama/KUBE), with two participants each. However, one participant was absent, resulting in 13 total attendees. The program responded to key challenges such as continued reliance on conventional marketing and limited access to digital platforms. Products were often resold without proper branding, and customers struggled to find them online due to participants’ limited knowledge of digital marketing and time constraints in managing e-commerce. To address these issues, the program included educational sessions and hands-on mentoring in digital literacy. The implementation followed three phases: preparation, execution, and evaluation. Training covered creating social media and e-commerce accounts, as well as content creation using tools like Canva. The evaluation used pre- and post-program questionnaires to measure changes in understanding. Results showed a significant increase in digital literacy among participants, from an average of 36.93% before the program to 63.07% after. This indicates that the intervention effectively enhanced the digital capacity of MSME actors, supporting their business sustainability and competitiveness in the digital era.
