Abstract

The high incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Tenggilis Mejoyo Urban Village, Surabaya City, along with the community's dependence on chemical-based mosquito repellents, serves as the primary background for this community service activity. The objective of this program is to empower the community, particularly the women of Kader Surabaya Hebat (KSH), through education on DHF prevention and training in the production of a natural mosquito spray from lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus) as a safe, environmentally friendly, and economically potential alternative. The implementation method involved a participatory socialization approach in collaboration with the local Public Health Center (Puskesmas) and a direct demonstration of the product-making process. The results showed a very positive response and high enthusiasm from the participants. There was an increased community awareness regarding the use of natural ingredients for disease prevention, and the participants successfully acquired the technical skills to produce the mosquito spray independently. Furthermore, a significant creative economy potential was identified, where the product can be produced at a low cost and sold at an affordable price to the wider community. In conclusion, this empowerment program successfully integrated a preventive health solution with entrepreneurial potential, creating a model of community self-reliance in facing the challenge of DHF while simultaneously opening new economic opportunities at the community level.

Abstract

In the modern era, personal branding is increasingly important for individuals, including educators. Educators with strong personal branding can influence public perception of them and have a positive impact on the quality of education provided. In the context of arts education, particularly dance, educators serve not only as teachers but also as preservers and inheritors of culture. Therefore, dance educators are expected to have good personal branding so they can serve as role models for their students and the community. The current phenomenon is a lack of attention to the development of personal branding among dance educators. Many educators focus only on technical teaching skills, while aspects of strengthening their self-image and their role as agents of cultural preservation receive little attention. However, educators with strong personal branding can inspire their students to preserve traditional culture, which is increasingly marginalised by modernisation. Research indicates that effective personal branding strengthens the relationship between educators and students and increases the likelihood of greater appreciation for dance as part of cultural identity. This service is also related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 11 (Cultural Engagement in Sustainable Communities) (1) The personal branding of dance educators can play a role in empowering the arts community by encouraging community involvement in cultural preservation. Qualitative research methods with a case study approach will be used to explore in depth how the personal branding of dance educators influences the empowerment of the arts community and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Freshwater fish farming plays a crucial role in food self-sufficiency, particularly in rural areas. However, high feed costs and uncertain availability often pose significant obstacles to this activity. This problem is also felt in fish farming activities in Wonoasri Village, Grogol District, Kediri Regency, where cultivation practices rely on manufactured feed. This directly affects the sustainability and productivity of fish. Limited knowledge about alternative natural feeds results in suboptimal cultivation productivity. Therefore, this community service aims to provide solutions to these problems through education and training in plankton culture for Women Farmers Groups (KWT). This community service activity was carried out on August 13, 2025, with five participants. The activity implementation method includes three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Preparation for the activity included surveys, observations, coordination, and preparation of tools, materials, and resources. The activity implementation included the presentation of theoretical material on plankton (definition, types, and roles in fish farming) and a demonstration of plankton culture and its application in fish farming. The culture training used used gallons with seeds from pure cultures of Chlorella pyrenoidosa and local cultivation water. Evaluation is carried out by administering pretests and posttests, as indicators of the success of the activity. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge, understanding, and skills regarding plankton in fish farming, as demonstrated by the pretest and posttest results given to participants. The activity took place interactively, with questions and answers from participants during the presentation and demonstrations. Participants were enthusiastic and committed to independently cultivating plankton as natural feed for fish farming, thereby increasing productivity. This activity is expected to improve feed cost efficiency, encourage fish farming productivity, and support food security programs and sustainable village economic progress.

Abstract

The digital era requires children to acquire digital literacy skills from an early age, yet the digital divide remains a major challenge in rural areas. This article describes the implementation of the Pojok Literasi Arjuna (Arjuna Literacy Corner) in Sukaharja Village, Cijeruk District, Bogor Regency, as a community-based collaborative effort to improve children’s digital literacy. The method applied was a community participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation stages. The subjects were 30 children at the elementary to junior high school level, supported by teachers, village cadres, parents, youth organizations, and the village government. The results show a significant improvement in children’s digital literacy. Quantitatively, the average score increased from 56.7 to 78.5, representing a 38.4% improvement. The most notable progress was in identifying credible information sources (45%) and the use of learning applications (42%), while productive skills such as creating digital presentations improved by 30%. Qualitative findings revealed that children became more confident in using digital devices for learning, and parents reported a positive behavioral shift as children increasingly used the internet for educational purposes. Teachers and village cadres served as facilitators adapting the materials to local contexts, while youth organizations acted as role models in the healthy use of digital media. These findings confirm that community collaboration can establish a sustainable digital literacy ecosystem in rural areas. The program not only enhanced children’s digital skills but also strengthened community participation and holds potential for replication in other villages as a community-based empowerment model supporting the achievement of the SDGs.

Abstract

The community service activity in Gundu-Gundu Village was motivated by coastal environmental issues, such as waste accumulation, the absence of a final disposal site (TPA), and air pollution caused by open burning of waste. To address these challenges, the implementation team designed an innovation in the form of a low-smoke waste incinerator made from recycled materials. The stages of the activity included field surveys, tool design and fabrication, as well as participatory socialization and trials with the community. The results demonstrated that the device was effective in reducing waste volume and minimizing smoke emissions, thereby improving air quality and the cleanliness of the coastal environment. In addition, the community’s positive response reflected an increase in awareness and behavioral change toward more environmentally friendly waste management practices.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out as an effort to improve the competence of madrasah teachers in developing science learning that is integrated with the values of the Qur'an and Hadith, as well as encouraging the creation of a child-friendly learning environment. The background of this activity is based on the fact that teachers still find it difficult to develop learning strategies that are able to connect scientific concepts with religious teachings, resulting in low student readiness to face academic competition at the madrasah level. The main objective of this program is to provide technical guidance to teachers so that they are more skilled in designing integrated learning, while also increasing student readiness to face national science competitions. This activity was carried out at MTsN 2 Palu, involving eight science teachers and Al-Qur'an and Hadith teachers, as well as 22 students in grades VII to IX. This activity was designed in five stages, namely needs analysis, development of integrated science modules, focused group discussions, teacher and student mentoring, and evaluation. The developed module contains five main science themes integrated with verses from the Qur'an and Hadith, and is used as the primary tool in learning. The results of the activity show that teachers have improved their skills in developing science and religion-based learning strategies, while students have benefited from increased motivation, confidence, and ability.
