Abstract

The training on optimizing the role of language in strengthening the mental health of youth in the Karang Taruna of Karanganyar Village was conducted to enhance participants’ awareness and ability to use language as a tool for emotional regulation, empathetic communication, and social support. This community service program involved 22 youths and was carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The training employed interactive lectures, group discussions, simulations, and reflective activities, supported by pretest and posttest assessments. The pretest results showed an average score of 85.46, which increased to 94.71 in the posttest with a median score of 100, indicating a significant improvement in participants’ understanding. Demographic data revealed diverse age groups and professional backgrounds among participants, demonstrating the relevance of the program for a heterogeneous youth community. Beyond increasing knowledge, the training encouraged participants to apply positive and empathetic language in daily interactions and to recognize the importance of self-talk as part of mental well-being. These findings confirm that language-based literacy interventions are effective in strengthening youths’ psychological resilience and hold potential as a community empowerment model that can be replicated in other village settings.

Abstract

Domestic wastewater from residential areas is a significant source of environmental pollution. Daily activities such as washing, bathing, and defecating produce wastewater containing organic matter, nutrients, and pathogens. If not properly treated, domestic wastewater can cause environmental pollution, public health problems, and ecosystem damage. Therefore, effective domestic wastewater treatment is necessary to mitigate these negative impacts. Domestic wastewater treatment can be carried out using physical, chemical, and biological methods. This article discusses various domestic wastewater treatment methods, including physical, chemical, and biological treatment, as well as the implementation of effective and efficient domestic wastewater treatment systems to help reduce environmental pollution and improve public health.

Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable group who are highly at risk of experiencing various forms of violence, particularly sexual violence that often occurs within close environments such as families, schools, and social communities. This community service program aimed to enhance students’ legal awareness and knowledge regarding the prevention of sexual violence in schools through a legal education campaign at SMKN 20 Samarinda. The program was conducted over six months, involving 40 participants consisting of student council members, flag-raising troop members, and class representatives from grade XI. The implementation employed a participatory-educative approach, combining legal counseling, interactive lectures, group discussions, and experience-sharing sessions. The activities were carried out in two stages: the first focused on socialization and education about the forms and impacts of sexual violence, while the second involved expert legal speakers who provided in-depth understanding of legal protection and reporting mechanisms. The results showed an improvement in students’ comprehension of sexual violence concepts, their awareness of self-protection rights, and their courage to report incidents of violence occurring in their surroundings. Moreover, the program fostered empathy and social concern among students to build a safe and violence-free school environment. This initiative is expected to serve as an initial step in developing a culture of legal awareness and child protection within educational settings and as a preventive model that can be replicated in other schools.

Abstract

The fisheries potential of Banyuwangi Regency is substantial due to its abundant natural resources. The Fish Farmers Group (Pokdakan) Sumber Bening serves as a productive partner located in Rejopuro Hamlet, Kampunganyar Village, Glagah District, Banyuwangi Regency, an area situated within a watershed (DAS) that supports aquaculture activities. This Community Service Program (Pengmas) aims to empower the Sumber Bening fish farmers group as a productive partner; however, they face challenges related to low production output. Initial identification revealed two main problems: limited human resource capacity in intensive catfish cultivation and weak technical management. The interventions implemented included the establishment of an aquaponic cultivation demonstration plot, technical training sessions, as well as continuous mentoring and evaluation. The results showed a significant improvement in skills and competencies—from 8% before training to 75% after training—along with an increase in motivation to develop from 10% to 80%. The final capacity improvement reached 100% in both indicators, indicating successful technology transfer and adoption of intensive aquaculture practices. The partner group successfully implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cultivation, conducted daily record-keeping, and achieved improved feed efficiency, reduced mortality rates, and produced additional outputs in the form of organic vegetables. The growth performance indicated a Feeding Rate (FR) of 1:1 and a Survival Rate (SR) of 99%. This program resulted in the development of a model fish farming group that is adaptive and has strong potential for replication in other regions.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) was implemented in Pati’di Village, Simboro District, Mamuju Regency, aiming to enhance the production capacity and marketing performance of banana chips through technological innovation and business digitalization. The partner group, Komunitas Baine Botteng, consists of 11 women micro-entrepreneurs engaged in local banana processing. The program employed a participatory approach encompassing stages of socialization, non-technical training, business digitalization assistance, and ongoing evaluation. Due to equipment delivery delays, the activities primarily focused on strengthening managerial skills, financial literacy, product packaging design, and digital marketing strategies. The results indicate substantial improvement in non-technical aspects. Approximately 83% of participants successfully adopted simple bookkeeping using the BukuKas mobile application, all participants (100%) designed attractive product labels and packaging using Canva, and 73% utilized social media for online product promotion. Beyond technical outcomes, the program also fostered social impacts, including heightened motivation, active participation, and collective awareness among members regarding innovation and entrepreneurship. This empowerment model demonstrates that managerial and digital literacy development serves as a crucial foundation for subsequent adoption of appropriate production technologies. The PKM initiative contributes to sustainable rural economic empowerment and provides a replicable model for other women’s communities to develop competitive local-based enterprises through the synergy of technological innovation, digital transformation, and socio-economic capacity strengthening.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented in Bonto Tengnga Village, Sinjai Regency, with the main objective of enhancing the village’s economic independence through the empowerment of two partner groups, namely the Balantieng Farmers Group and the Women Farmers Group Persatuan. Both groups faced several challenges, including limited skills in coffee cultivation management, suboptimal utilization of coffee husk waste, and a lack of innovation in developing local processed food products. To address these issues, the program was conducted through several stages, including socialization, needs identification, technical training, intensive mentoring, and follow-up evaluation. The training activities focused on improving technical skills such as proper coffee cherry picking, plant maintenance and fertilization, and the production of compost from coffee husks as a value-added agricultural by-product. For the women farmers group, the program emphasized product diversification by developing various types of crackers made from bananas, cassava, and taro with assorted flavors, as well as training in product packaging and marketing strategies. In addition to technical training, the program also strengthened institutional capacity through bookkeeping and task management workshops to improve organizational governance. The results showed a significant improvement in the partners’ knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in managing local resources productively, efficiently, and sustainably. The collaborative approach between the farmers group and the women farmers group proved effective in creating an integrated economic value chain within the village. Overall, this program serves as a model for developing rural economic independence through coffee-based downstream processing that enhances community welfare and sustainable local economic resilience.

Abstract

Seaweed is one of the most abundant coastal resources in Baji Pamai, yet the community has long depended on selling it in dried form, resulting in limited economic benefits. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of coastal families in processing seaweed into a high-value food product, specifically seaweed-based cendol. The activity was designed to strengthen the community’s capacity in diversifying seaweed utilization and to support the development of a sustainable household-scale product. The program consisted of several stages: preparation, counseling, training, practice, and mentoring. Twenty participants were involved, selected based on their involvement in seaweed production and willingness to participate in all sessions. Counseling was conducted to enhance understanding of seaweed nutrition, product potential, and hygiene principles. This was followed by hands-on training on the entire production process, including material preparation, gel extraction, dough mixing, cendol molding, and packaging. Mentoring was provided continuously until participants demonstrated the ability to produce the product independently. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, with average scores increasing from 42 percent in the initial assessment to 98 percent after the counseling session. All twenty participants successfully produced seaweed cendol with acceptable texture and taste. Economically, the group was able to process three kilograms of dried seaweed worth ninety thousand rupiah into two hundred and fifty bottles of seaweed cendol, generating a total revenue of two million five hundred thousand rupiah. The provision of equipment and starter materials further supported the sustainability of the initiative. This program demonstrates that simple processing technology can create substantial added value and empower coastal communities. The involvement of community members at every stage reflects the effectiveness of participatory-based training in building independence and strengthening the local economy.

Abstract

The Gambus Academy Kindang program was implemented as an effort to revitalize Bugis–Makassar traditional music through artistic training, cultural literacy enhancement, and the integration of digital technology among youth in Kindang Village, Bulukumba Regency. This initiative responds to the fact that most young people are no longer familiar with the basic techniques of Gambus playing, traditional repertoires, or the cultural meanings embedded within this musical heritage. The program adopted a community-based participatory approach by involving a local Gambus maestro, facilitators, and participants as active agents throughout the learning process. The training activities included the introduction of Gambus history and philosophy, basic plucking techniques, fingering, mastery of traditional repertoires, audio-video recording, content editing, and the development of cultural education materials. The results indicate a significant improvement in both technical competence and cultural understanding. The average score for basic Gambus-playing skills increased from 25.7 in the pre-test to 75 in the post-test, while participants’ cultural attitudes and literacy improved from 2.27 to 4.37 on a 1–5 scale. Youth who initially perceived Gambus as outdated music began to show pride in Bugis–Makassar cultural identity and recognized the social and ritual functions of Gambus within traditional ceremonies. Moreover, the acquisition of digital skills enabled participants to produce cultural content accessible to broader audiences. The program also enhanced participants’ motivation and self-confidence, evidenced by their initiative to practice independently and their readiness to perform in public showcases. Overall, Gambus Academy Kindang has proven effective as a model for preserving traditional arts by integrating local wisdom with digital innovation.
