Abstract

Filariasis is a reemerging disease that remains a public health issue in Indonesia, including in Southeast Sulawesi Province. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship and spatial distribution of risk factors for filariasis incidence in Southeast Sulawesi in 2024. The type of research used was descriptive observational with population observation units based on ecological study design. The population and sample of the study included data on filariasis cases, regional altitude, population density, and socioeconomic levels in Southeast Sulawesi in 2024, which were collected using a total sampling technique. Data collection used a documentation study method with secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Southeast Sulawesi Province in 2024 and the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Office in 2024. The analysis was carried out using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Spearman correlation test, and spatial analysis. The results showed that gender was significantly correlated with filariasis incidence (r=0.990; p=0.000). Meanwhile, altitude (r=0.470; p=0.057), population density (r=-0.040; p=0.878), and socioeconomic level (r=-0.112; p=0.669) did not show a significant correlation. The study concluded that the incidence of filariasis in Southeast Sulawesi in 2024 was significantly correlated with gender, while altitude, population density, and socioeconomic level were not significantly correlated. These findings are expected to provide a basis for planning more targeted filariasis control efforts.

Abstract

Aspergillosis comprises a spectrum of pulmonary diseases caused by inhalation of Aspergillus spores from the environment in individuals with immunological vulnerability or structural lung damage. This review summarizes major environmental sources of exposure (soil, compost, hospital ventilation and water systems, and construction activities), key host and environmental risk factors, and environmental and clinical prevention strategies. Multiple studies report increased airborne spore counts and higher incidence of invasive aspergillosis among haematology patients during hospital construction when protective ventilation and HEPA filtration are insufficient. Principal host risk factors include prolonged neutropenia, haematological malignancies, transplantation, immunosuppressive therapy, post‑tuberculosis cavities, severe COPD, and other chronic lung diseases. Climate change and natural disasters are thought to enhance the distribution of airborne fungal spores, although quantitative data specifically linking these events to aspergillosis remain limited. Effective prevention requires an integrated approach combining environmental control, targeted antifungal prophylaxis, screening in patients with structural lung disease, patient education, and stewardship to address azole resistance within a One Health framework.

Abstract

Stunting and speech delay are health problems in toddlers that influence physical growth, cognitive development, and communication abilities. Inadequate management may negatively impact children’s long-term growth and development. The family plays a crucial role in prevention and management through adequate nutrition, developmental stimulation, and utilization of healthcare services. This final scientific paper aimed to describe the implementation of family nursing care for a toddler with stunting and speech delay. Based on the assessment conducted from December 30, 2025, to January 1, 2026, two priority nursing diagnoses were identified: inadequate nutritional intake (stunting) and delayed child development (speech delay). The interventions were designed on the five family health tasks. For the first diagnosis, the actions implemented included education on balanced nutrition using the ‘My Plate’ approach, demonstration of healthy menu planning, modification of the eating environment, and utilization of healthcare services. Interventions implemented for the second diagnosis included education on the importance of speech development stimulation, demonstration of language stimulation using flashcards and bibliotherapy, limitation of gadget use, and family assistance in decision-making regarding care and in the independent implementation of language stimulation at home. Evaluation results indicated improvements in the family’s knowledge, attitudes, skills, and self-confidence in caring for the child, as well as in fulfilling family health tasks. Community health centers are expected to enhance educational programs and family support initiatives to optimize child growth and development.

Abstract

Wuru Ketek (Myrica javanica Reinw. ex Bl.) plant is known to contain flavonoids and tannins that have the potential as antidiabetics. This study aims to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of wuru ketek leaves (Myrica javanica Reinw. ex Bl.) on the relative weight of the liver, kidneys, and heart of alloxan-induced diabetic male mice. A total of 30 mice were divided into six groups: normal group, negative control, positive control (glibenclamide), and three treatment groups with doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kgBW for 12 days orally. The organs were weighed and analyzed statistically. The results showed no significant difference in relative organ weight (p>0.05) between the treatment group and the normal group. These findings indicate that the ethanol extract of wuru ketek leaves (Myrica javanica Reinw. Ex Bl.) does not show toxic effects on target organs in the short term. Further studies are needed to assess long-term safety and other biochemical parameters.

Abstract

Infant growth and development require close attention from parents, as this stage is highly vulnerable to health problems, particularly those related to nutritional adequacy and disease. Inappropriate complementary feeding (MP-ASI) and incomplete basic immunization may negatively affect infants’ growth, development, and health status. This final scientific paper aimed to describe family nursing care for issues related to complementary feeding and incomplete basic immunization. Based on the assessment conducted on 18 December 2025, priority nursing diagnoses identified in the family were ineffective family health management related to inadequate understanding of complementary feeding and ineffective family health management related to immunization behavior. Nursing care planning was developed based on the five family health tasks. Interventions included health education on complementary feeding concepts, demonstration of balanced nutrition menus (four-star menu) on a plate, provision of daily four-star menu examples, and explanation of healthcare services for monitoring infant growth and development. In addition, education on the importance of complete immunization was provided, including management using flashcards and educational videos illustrating differences between immunized and non-immunized children, as well as demonstration of the management of adverse events following immunization (AEFI). Modifications were also implemented by providing a scheduled roster aligned with age-appropriate immunization schedules as a reminder. Evaluation results showed improvements in the family’s knowledge, attitudes, and motivation in meeting the infant’s health needs. This nursing care is expected to serve as a reference for community health center nurses in delivering health education to families to optimize infant health outcomes.

Abstract

Red seaweed (Eucheuma spinosum) is a marine biological resource containing bioactive compounds such as flavonoids with antioxidant potential. This study aimed to determine and compare the total flavonoid content in 70% and 96% ethanol extracts of Eucheuma spinosum obtained by maceration using a UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. This study employed an experimental laboratory design with a comparative approach. Samples were collected from the coastal area of Bengkulu, processed into simplicia, and extracted using 70% and 96% ethanol. Phytochemical screening was conducted to identify flavonoids, while quantitative analysis was performed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with quercetin as a standard. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent sample t-test.The results showed that total flavonoid content in 70% ethanol extract was 9.2 ± 0.17 mg QE/g (0.92%), while in 96% ethanol extract it was 10.2 ± 0.12 mg QE/g (1.02%). The data were normally distributed and homogeneous (p > 0.05). The independent sample t-test indicated no significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05).In conclusion, 96% ethanol tends to be more effective for flavonoid extraction, although the difference is not statistically significant.

Abstract

Worm infection remains a public health problem among toddlers in areas with inadequate environmental sanitation and suboptimal family hygiene practices. Toddlers are vulnerable due to their habit of playing in the dirt and the mother's independence in maintaining cleanliness. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal behavior in implementing personal hygiene and family environmental sanitation with worm infection in toddlers. Using a cross-sectional analytical observational design with a sample of 43 mothers and toddlers (purposive sampling). Data on maternal behavior were collected through questionnaires, environmental observations, and detection of worm infection through toddler stool examination using the Kato-Katz method at the Dr. LM Baharuddin Regional Hospital Laboratory. The results showed that most mothers had good personal hygiene behavior (93.0%), healthy environmental sanitation (48.8%), and unhealthy (51.2%). Worm infection occurred in 1 toddler (2.3%). Bivariate analysis found a significant relationship between maternal personal hygiene behavior and worm infection (p=0.232), but not significant for environmental sanitation (p=1.000). It was concluded that maternal personal hygiene practices were significantly associated with worm infections in toddlers, while environmental sanitation was not. Improved health education for mothers and routine screening for worm infections are recommended.

Abstract

Healthcare services are a crucial component in improving public health, yet their effectiveness still faces various challenges, such as service quality, resource efficiency, and patient satisfaction. One approach that can be used to address these issues is strategic planning a systematic process for effectively and efficiently establishing organizational goals and strategies. This study employs a literature review method by analyzing 10 relevant scientific articles on strategic planning in healthcare. The findings indicate that strategic planning plays a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of healthcare services, particularly in human resource management, service quality improvement, and organizational performance. The implementation of appropriate strategies, such as SWOT analysis, human resource competency development, and the optimization of facilities and infrastructure, has proven effective in improving service quality and patient satisfaction. However, the implementation of strategic planning still faces challenges, including budget constraints, a lack of continuous training, and the uneven distribution of healthcare personnel. Additionally, the effectiveness of strategies is influenced by the comprehensiveness of performance indicators and the evaluation systems used. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen data-driven strategic planning, enhance human resource competencies, and improve facilities and infrastructure to support the effectiveness of healthcare services.

Abstract

Health is both a basic need and a right of every individual that must be fulfilled to achieve an optimal quality of life. In Indonesia, the availability of healthcare personnel has shown an increase over time, yet it still faces significant challenges regarding equitable distribution. Issues in the distribution of healthcare personnel are inseparable from suboptimal governance aspects. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the challenges and governance strategies for healthcare personnel in supporting equitable health services based on various previous studies. The methods used include a literature review from the Google Scholar, Garuda, and PubMed databases. Based on the findings, it was determined that healthcare workforce governance in Indonesia still faces complex challenges, particularly regarding distribution disparities, shortages of healthcare personnel, and weaknesses in the planning and management of healthcare human resources. Although the number of health workers continues to increase, their distribution remains uneven and is still concentrated in urban areas, leading to disparities in access to health services in remote and underdeveloped regions. It is recommended that the government and stakeholders strengthen health workforce planning based on needs and data, and enhance cross-sectoral coordination in the management of health human resources.

Abstract

ARI or Acute Respiratory Tract Infection is an infection that attacks the upper and lower respiratory tract that lasts up to 14 days caused by viruses and bacteria. Home industry workers are often exposed to total dust and wood burning smoke which is consistently associated with increased ARI symptoms and decreased lung function. The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of ARI incidence in patchouli oil refining home industry workers in Konawe District. The method used in this study was an analytical observational with individual observation units using a cross-sectional design with a total sampling technique. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge (p-value = 0.008), smoking habits (p-value = 0.016), use of firewood (p-value = 0.022), duration of exposure (p-value = 0.003), and distance from the worker's house (p-value = 0.005), with the incidence of ARI. And there was no significant relationship between the use of PPE masks (p-value = 0.877) with the incidence of ARI. Therefore, local governments are expected to improve guidance and supervision of work environment conditions, provide education and training regarding occupational safety and health (OSH), especially regarding the prevention of ARI.
