Abstract

During pregnancy, women are at risk of developing anemia, which can increase the likelihood of preterm birth and, in severe cases, lead to maternal or infant mortality. Anemia in pregnancy is influenced by multiple factors, and identifying these determinants can facilitate effective prevention. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women and the factors associated with it. The research used a cross-sectional design with 100 pregnant women living in the working area of Nagaswidak Public Health Center, Palembang, as subjects. Samples were selected using a consecutive sampling method. Hemoglobin levels were measured using a hemoglobin test strip, while other variables were obtained through questionnaires. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. The results showed that gestational age (p-value=0,032), pregnancy spacing (p-value=0,017), compliance with iron tablet consumption (p-value=0,004), and nutritional status (p-value=0,000) were significantly associated with anemia in pregnant women. Meanwhile, maternal age (p-value=0,064), education (p-value=0,703), occupation (p-value=0,908), parity (p-value=0,444), knowledge (p-value=0,251), and dietary patterns (p-value=0,965) were not significantly related. Efforts to prevent anemia in pregnancy should focus on improving iron tablet compliance, monitoring nutritional status, and promoting optimal pregnancy spacing.

Abstract

Anemia remains a major nutritional problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, largely due to adolescents’ limited nutritional knowledge. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the educational video “I’m Healthy and Free of Anemia” in improving adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes toward anemia. Using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, 140 students from SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Padang and SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang were selected purposively. Data were collected through validated questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results showed significant improvements in knowledge and attitudes after the intervention (p-value<0,001), with mean knowledge scores increasing from 70,11 to 81,14 and attitude scores from 76,14 to 82,73. The video was effective due to its engaging visual and audio elements, as well as practical examples. This study highlights the value of interactive educational media in enhancing adolescents’ awareness and understanding of anemia.

Abstract

Along with the development of technology, social media has become an integral part of adolescents' daily lives. This study is concerned with significant changes in the behavioral patterns of high school adolescents, particularly in terms of the consumption of information about nutrition. This study aimed to bridge the knowledge gap and understand the practical implications of the relationship between the use of social media platforms and knowledge and attitudes about nutrition among secondary school adolescents. This type of research is a cross-sectional study approach. This study was conducted in 2024 in the Buton district with a sample in the study of MAN 1 Buton students, using a purposive sampling technique of as many as 37 people. Data analysis used bivariate analysis to test the null hypothesis using the chi-square (X2) formula. This study showed a relationship between the use of social media with knowledge and attitudes about nutrition, with significant results on the frequency of length of use per day (p-value=0,05). In addition, there was also a significant relationship between the type of social media used and attitudes about nutrition (p-value=0,031). This study concludes that its findings have significant implications for health education, particularly in guiding the development of curricula that incorporate social media as an effective and contextually relevant platform for delivering nutrition education to adolescents.

Abstract

Iron is an essential micronutrient, particularly for blood formation and hemoglobin synthesis. Vitamin A contributes by mobilizing iron reserves in the body, thereby supporting hemoglobin production. This study aimed to examine the association between iron and vitamin A intake and the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls in Surakarta. A cross-sectional design with multistage random sampling was employed, involving 199 female students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Hemoglobin levels were assessed using the cyanmethemoglobin method, while dietary intake of iron and vitamin A was measured through the Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) to evaluate dietary habits. Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between iron intake and anemia (p-value= <0,001), whereas vitamin A intake showed no significant relationship (p-value= 0,132). The findings indicate that inadequate iron intake contributes to anemia in adolescent girls. Further research with larger sample sizes and longitudinal approaches is strongly recommended to elucidate the role of vitamin A and to inform more effective anemia prevention strategies.

Abstract

User acceptance is a key determinant of the successful implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in hospitals. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing EMR acceptance at Bhayangkara Level III Hospital Kendari using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 114 healthcare workers selected through simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS version 4.0. Perceived ease of use had a significant effect on perceived usefulness (β = 0,760, p < 0.001) and user attitude (β = 0,464, p < 0,001). Perceived usefulness affected user attitude (β = 0,368, p < 0,001) and actual use (β = 0,534, p < 0.001), but had no direct effect on behavioral intention (p = 0,167). User attitude strongly influenced behavioral intention (β = 0,793, p < 0,001), which in turn affected actual use (β = 0,384, p < 0,001). Perceived usefulness acted as a partial mediator between ease of use and attitude, while attitude served as a full mediator between perceived usefulness and behavioral intention. Behavioral intention did not mediate the relationship between perceived usefulness and actual use. A user-friendly system design and demonstrable benefits are essential to foster positive user attitudes and encourage EMR adoption.

Abstract

Indonesia faces a triple burden of nutritional problems, including the rising prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents. Obesity cases among senior high school students in Tasikmalaya Regency were notably high in 2023, indicating the need to analyze factors contributing to obesity in the region. This study aimed to analyze the effect of an e-booklet on obesity management on the knowledge and attitudes of obese adolescents at SMK Singaparna and SMK Daaruddakwah. A quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design was used, and hypothesis testing was conducted using the Wilcoxon test and paired t-test. The sample consisted of 42 obese adolescents selected through total sampling. The results showed an increase in knowledge (6,21 points) and attitudes (1,91 points) regarding obesity management, indicating a significant effect of the e-booklet on improving knowledge (p-value< 0,001) and attitudes (p-value = 0,011). It is recommended that the developed e-booklet be utilized as a health promotion medium for obesity management.

Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) is an important health problem, particularly in developing countries with low socioeconomic conditions. This study aimed to analyze maternal factors associated with the incidence of LBW in Majene Regency in 2023. The study involved 90 subjects selected through total sampling, using a case–control design and chi-square analysis. The results showed that maternal anemia was significantly associated with LBW (p-value<0,05), whereas maternal age, height, MUAC, exposure to cigarette smoke, and education were not associated (p-value>0,05). These findings emphasize the importance of educating pregnant women to regularly consume iron (Fe) tablets correctly, such as taking them before bedtime and avoiding consumption together with tea or coffee.

Abstract

Dengue infection, caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia. The ability to identify reliable biomarkers for assessing disease severity is critical for improving clinical management. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) as potential biomarkers of severity in dengue infection. An observational cross-sectional design was employed, analyzing 76 dengue cases at RSAU dr. Dody Sardjoto. Data were collected from medical records of patients during the critical fever period (days 4-7). The majority of patients were male and adult, with a higher incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Statistical analysis showed no significant correlation between NLR and PLR with disease severity (p-value >0,05), although a positive correlation between NLR and PLR was observed. However, neither NLR nor PLR effectively predicted hospitalization duration. These results suggest that while NLR and PLR reflect immune responses in dengue infection, they are not suitable biomarkers for assessing disease severity. Further research is needed to identify more reliable biomarkers for better management of dengue infection.

Abstract

Dissatisfaction among physicians can lead to decreased productivity, thereby disrupting performance and patient care. This study aimed to identify several factors influencing physicians’ job satisfaction, namely income, job security, age, length of service, supervision, interpersonal relationships, workload, and motivation at Dr. H. Bob Bazar, SKM Regional General Hospital. This quantitative study used an analytical approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 37 physicians from Dr. H. Bob Bazar, SKM Regional General Hospital in South Lampung. The sampling method was comprehensive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using bivariate analysis (simple linear regression) and multivariate analysis (F-test). The results showed that income (p-value = 0,002), interpersonal relationships (p-value = 0,001), supervision (p-value = 0,010), workload (p = 0,000), and motivation (p = 0,000) had a significant effect on physicians’ job satisfaction. Job security (p-value = 0,051), age (p-value = 0,667), and length of service (p-value = 0,662) did not affect job satisfaction. The primary factor influencing physicians’ job satisfaction was workload, with a coefficient b = 0,347. The findings of this study reveal that income, interpersonal relationships, supervision, workload, and motivation influence physicians’ job satisfaction, whereas job security, age, and length of service do not. This study provides informative, analytical evidence to assist hospital administration in improving factors that affect physicians’ job satisfaction.

Abstract

One option for community health services is the community health center (Puskesmas). Puskesmas can adaptably enhance health services by using the Regional Public Service Agency Financial Management Pattern (PPK-BLUD). However, it will affect health care by increasing the desire of health workers to leave if it is not backed by effective human resource management. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how health workers' intentions to leave their jobs relate to their workload, job satisfaction, and wage satisfaction. Using all 418 BLUD contract workers from 37 Puskesmas in Kediri Regency as the population, a cross-sectional design was employed. 204 participants who satisfied the inclusion criteria namely, having been employed as a contract employee at the Kediri Regency Health Center for more than six months were selected through the use of a straightforward random sample procedure. Data were gathered by a questionnaire in December 2023. Multiple linear regression was employed in the data analysis. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between workload (p-value = 0,001) and job satisfaction (p-value = 0,043) with turnover intention; however, salary satisfaction was not associated with turnover intention (p-value = 0,169). Long-term organizational success depends on effective planning as a method to enhance service quality. Puskesmas can hire BLUD contract workers based on employee payroll needs and strengths by implementing PPK-BLUD.
