Abstract

The correctional system in Indonesia emphasizes a rehabilitative approach that respects human rights, including the right to health for female inmates who are pregnant and breastfeeding. However, the fulfillment of maternal health rights in correctional institutions still faces several challenges, including limited health facilities, shortages of medical personnel, and limited understanding among inmates regarding their health rights. This community service activity aims to improve female inmates’ understanding of basic maternal health rights for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and to encourage correctional services that are more responsive to the needs of mothers and children. The program applied the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which emphasizes inmates' active participation in identifying problems, discussing possible solutions, and reflecting on the outcomes of the activities. The activity was conducted on July 14, 2025, at the Women’s Correctional Institution Class IIA Pontianak, involving 40 female inmates, including four pregnant inmates and three breastfeeding inmates, with support from correctional officers and an academic team from Universitas Tanjungpura. The program included educational sessions, interactive discussions, and participatory reflections on maternal health rights, nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and procedures for accessing health services inside and outside the correctional institution. The results show increased understanding of maternal health rights and the importance of proper nutrition and accessible health services. Discussions also identified institutional limitations, including maternal health facilities, lactation support, and availability of medical personnel.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed industrial skill demands, emphasizing human–machine collaboration rather than mere automation in the Industry 5.0 era. Vocational education institutions must therefore equip students with AI literacy and ethical digital competence to strengthen employability and workplace readiness. This community service program aimed to enhance vocational students’ ability to utilize AI tools for professional tasks and ethical technological engagement. Conducted through practice-based training, workplace simulations, and mentoring sessions for 96 students in Madiun City, Indonesia, the program integrated pre- and post-tests, performance assessments, and reflective evaluations. Results indicated significant improvement in students’ understanding of AI concepts, proficiency in using multiple AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Canva AI, Notion AI, QuillBot), and ability to create professional digital portfolios. Participants also demonstrated heightened awareness of digital ethics, data security, and responsible AI use. The program effectively improved employability skills, self-efficacy, and adaptability to technological changes. This initiative provides a sustainable model for embedding AI literacy into vocational curricula and preparing human resources capable of innovative collaboration with intelligent technologies in Industry 5.0..

Abstract

Low nutritional literacy and health numeracy in rural families have the potential to impact the quality of food choices and daily cooking practices. Exploratory interviews conducted in March 2025 with mothers participating in the Community-Based Nutritional Research Center (TBM) in Serut Village revealed limitations in understanding nutritional composition, serving sizes, and budget-based menu planning. This situation prompted the need for interventions to improve mothers' nutritional knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) and to strengthen children's health numeracy. The “Healthy Menu, Right Numbers” community program was implemented through six meetings using a community-based participatory approach (CBPA) for two target groups: mothers (n=10) and preschool–elementary school children (n=50). The materials covered balanced nutrition, label literacy, menu preparation using local ingredients, and contextual numeracy (portion calculation, serving sizes, budget), with CALGIBRA as a simple calculation tool. The evaluation used a descriptive pre-post design without inferential testing. In the mother group (n=10), the mean score increased from 29.0±2.05 to 29.4±2.63 (Δ=+0.4; maximum 32), with 6 mothers improving and 4 decreasing slightly. In the child group (7 groups), three groups improved, three remained stable, and one decreased. The findings are descriptive and contextual, showing mild but consistent improvements in mothers and strengthening of contextual numeracy in children. Sustainability focuses on monthly monitoring and micro-coaching based on kitchen cases, with CALGIBRA as an innovation that supports independent numeracy practice.

Abstract

The low level of digital literacy among Generation Z Islamic boarding school students is a major obstacle to utilizing technology for effective da'wah. This program aims to provide an understanding of digital literacy and equip students with practical skills in processing creative content to build personal branding. The novelty of this program lies in its intervention targeting traditional Islamic boarding schools with limited infrastructure, an area that is often overlooked in mainstream digital literacy studies. The activities were carried out using a Service Learning (SL) approach, combined with Kurt Lewin's stages of change, to systematically transform students' behavior on social media. The implementation method consisted of four main stages: problem investigation, strategy preparation, action (including vision clarification, behavior change through technical training, and refreezing through assignments), and self-reflection. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in students' understanding of the urgency of personal branding and mastery of digital skills, such as copywriting, graphic design, and video editing, with practical implications for students' ability to produce consistent, independent creative da'wah content. Theoretically, this program demonstrated that the Service Learning method is effective when used in a pesantren environment to accelerate technological adaptation and foster a positive digital identity among Generation Z students.

Abstract

As a vulnerable group, adolescents living in orphanages tend to experience various psychological issues, such as difficult regulating emotions, a lack of self-acceptance, and low life satisfaction. It has been observed among foster children and adolescence at the Yayasan Rumah Piatu Muslimin Orphanage in Jakarta. The assessment results showed that obstacles to life satisfaction triggered negative emotions and anxiety about the future. Therefore, a digital gratitude intervention was developed to increase positive emotions and life satisfaction. This intervention involved two stages, with 10 children aged 12–17 participating. The first stage focused on gratitude education, while the second stage used a digital visual and reflective approach involving photography, writing, and verbal expression. Evaluations measured using the Skala Syukur, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and the Satisfaction With Life Scale, conducted through pre-test and two post-tests, revealed an increase in positive emotions and life satisfaction, as well as a decrease in negative emotions, following the intervention. Participants emphasized the need for better time management and more engaging material to optimize program outcomes.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen the spiritual and moral awareness of Indonesian migrant children at Sanggar Bimbingan Ampang, Malaysia, through prophetic value education. The activity responded to the absence of a structured character development program, as previous value-based activities had been conducted informally. The program was implemented in a three-hour participatory session involving 25 children aged 7–12 years. The activities included value-based ice breaking, storytelling of prophetic role models, guided discussions, role play, and reflective dialogue. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation of children’s responses during the activities. The results indicate active engagement and the emergence of early moral awareness, reflected in the children’s understanding of honesty, empathy, responsibility, and spiritual values. These findings show that participatory prophetic education can serve as an initial approach to fostering moral identity among migrant children within diaspora communities.

Abstract

Coastal communities frequently encounter complex and interrelated challenges, including limited religious literacy that may shape socio-religious practices in ways that are not fully aligned with normative Islamic legal principles. In the Lebuk Coastal Region, insufficient understanding of family fiqh has contributed to socio-religious practices that potentially diverge from established sharia provisions. Addressing this gap, this community service program aimed to strengthen community literacy in family fiqh through a structured, systematic, and sustainable mentoring framework. The program was implemented using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) design, encompassing iterative phases of preparation, action, and evaluation. This approach ensured meaningful community participation at every stage of the intervention, enabling collaborative problem identification, context-sensitive learning, and continuous improvement of the mentoring process. Empirical findings indicate a statistically significant enhancement in participants’ understanding, as reflected in the significance level below 0.05 calculated using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. These results substantiate the effectiveness of the staged mentoring model. The fundamental, progressive, and intensive mentoring framework grounded in PAR, therefore, demonstrates strong practical efficacy and offers a transferable model for communities with comparable socio-religious characteristics.

Abstract

This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase the knowledge capacity and critical awareness of the Pancasila University student press regarding the position, vulnerability, and media empowerment strategies. The activity was carried out through initial discussions, observations, and interviews to identify the needs and challenges faced by LPM Gema Alpas KMUP and LPM Suara Ekonomi. The core stage of implementation consisted of socialization and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with practitioners from the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) and the Greater Jakarta Student Press Forum (FPMJ), with effectiveness measured using pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of internal challenges, such as weak organizational structures, editorial policies, and the importance of protecting and maintaining the independence of campus media. Participants also understood that student press empowerment does not depend solely on legal regulations but can be achieved by strengthening capacity, economic independence, and solidarity among student journalists. Through this activity, the Pancasila University student press is expected to transform into an empowered, critical, and independent media capable of carrying out journalistic functions in both academic and public environments.

Abstract

Campus canteens play a strategic role in supporting health, productivity, and food safety in higher education environments, particularly in Islamic boarding school-based universities where all student activities take place on campus. Initial observations at Darussalam Gontor University indicate that food hygiene and sanitation practices remain suboptimal, characterised by inconsistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), unhygienic food presentation, limited menu variety, and inadequate waste management. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and practices of canteen managers and handlers through mentoring the implementation of the Hygienic and Healthy Canteen (KHAS). The method used is Community-Based Research (CBR) with a participatory mentoring approach for 18 workers, including problem mapping, socialisation and FGD, HSM training, implementation mentoring, and participatory monitoring and evaluation. The results of the activity show improvements in HSM practices at the UNIDA Gontor canteen, including compliance with PPE use, hygienic food presentation, environmental cleanliness, and waste sorting. The most significant change was an increase in knowledge among 100% of workers (from an initial average score of 21.9 to 24.2 out of a total score of 25). The integration of hygiene and sanitation, occupational safety and health, balanced nutrition, environmental management, and halal and thayyib values makes KHAS a sustainable model for Islamic boarding school canteen management with the potential for replication.

Abstract

This Community Service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat) activity addresses the superficial understanding of religious moderation among an inter-faith youth community in South Kalimantan, where traditional dialogue methods proved rigid and ineffective for the deep internalisation of values. The project's main objective was to develop an innovative educational board game named "Spotlight" to serve as an effective learning medium for internalizing these values. The game explicitly integrates the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Nine Key Words of Religious Moderation, focusing on Humanity, Justice, Balance, Tolerance, and Anti-Violence. The methodology employed a service learning approach combined with participatory training and mentoring. The youth were actively involved from design and content development to field playtesting. The results demonstrate that the Spotlight Boardgame was successfully implemented and proved effective as 'edutainment.' It created a fun, equitable, and open learning atmosphere, significantly enhancing participants' comprehension of moderation concepts through interactive case simulations and reflective challenge cards. Furthermore, the game positively strengthened social networks among inter-faith communities, acting as a medium for social transformation that reinforces national, humanitarian, and tolerance values. The game has high potential for replication.
