Abstract

The SEKOLATANI program is a community service initiative designed to enhance the capacity and independence of women farmers in Kombongan Hamlet, Jember, in implementing export-quality organic farming practices. This intervention was motivated by the farmers' limited knowledge of sustainable agriculture and their significant reliance on chemical-based inputs. The methodology employed an educational-participatory approach, utilizing counseling, training, and hands-on practice. A learning by doing method was specifically applied to the production of organic pesticides from local natural ingredients (e.g., neem leaves, lemongrass, and galangal). The results indicated a significant increase in participants' understanding, skills, and awareness regarding sustainable land management and eco- friendly pesticide production. Furthermore, the program successfully fostered motivation among women farmers to actively contribute to household welfare and the local economy. The SEKOLATANI program demonstrates that community-based education and mentoring serve as an effective model for transforming agriculture toward more sustainable, adaptive, and gender-inclusive practices.

Abstract

The Community Service Program was carried out at the Harapan Farmers Group, Kereng Bangkirai Sub-district, Palangka Raya City, as an effort to provide innovative solutions to pest attack problems that often reduced fruit farm productivity. Previously, farmers had relied on manual pesticide spraying, which required considerable time, labor, and cost, and posed health risks. To address this challenge, the service team from the University of Palangka Raya developed an automated pest control system that was able to regulate pesticide spraying independently and efficiently. The activities were conducted through stages of socialization, training, and system mapping of automation in the fruit farm area, involving members of the farmers group actively. The implementation results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of the technology by 30–40 percent, improved efficiency in pesticide use by up to one-third compared to manual methods, and a reduction in working time by nearly 50 percent. This activity not only improved farmers’ skills and productivity but also served as a concrete step toward the implementation of sustainable smart farming in Palangka Raya through collaboration between the university and the community.

Abstract

The problem of fruit waste due to oversupply in agritourism, which causes economic losses and environmental burdens, is the focus of this community service activity. The program aims to enhance partners' capacity through training and technology transfer in producing healthy gummy candy from local fruits. Implementation methods included observation, socialization, practical training, and evaluation involving 20 participants from Agrowisata Cipta Rasa Pak Slamet. The results showed significant improvement in three aspects: conceptual and material understanding (85-90%), procedural skills (95%), and partner enthusiasm and motivation (100%). The implementation of green economy principles was achieved through the conversion of fruit surplus into high-value products with extended shelf life. This program successfully established a strong production foundation while creating a sustainable green value chain. It is concluded that the participatory training approach effectively empowers partners and is ready to be replicated in other locations with similar problems. Program sustainability is ensured through partner commitment and an agreed-upon production monitoring plan.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the accuracy of qibla determination in the mosques and prayer rooms of Tepanas Hamlet through a Community Based Research (CBR) approach. Initial observations revealed qibla deviations ranging from 1° to 15°, caused by the use of traditional methods without astronomical verification and the low level of falak literacy among worship place administrators. Through the CBR model, activities were designed participatorily through several stages: problem identification, planning, training, field action, evaluation, and empowerment. The training focused on the use of the Mizwala, a highly accurate sun-shadow-based instrument, complemented by verification using GPS applications. During the field action stage, five worship facilities were successfully recalibrated, resulting in the elimination of all deviations and full alignment with the theoretical azimuth. The evaluation indicated a significant improvement in participants’ technical competence, including the ability to read the Mizwala scale and validate measurement results. The program continued with the establishment of local falakiyah cadres as a sustainability measure. The outcomes demonstrate that the CBR approach is effective in enhancing community capacity while producing an accurate, participatory, and sustainable model for qibla calibration.

Abstract

The community service program "Teacher Learning Program: Improving Kindergarten Teacher Competence through Islamic Values-Based STEAM Learning Training" was motivated by the low understanding of STEAM concepts among early childhood education (PAUD) teachers in Ngambeg Village and their limited ability to integrate Islamic values into their learning practices. This condition is exacerbated by limited access to training, low availability of open media, and a strong reliance on lecture methods. This program uses a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that includes stages of inculturation, problem identification, action planning, implementation, observation, and reflection collaboratively with teachers. Through training, workshops, microteaching, and intensive mentoring, this program successfully improved teacher competency, as demonstrated by improved scores in understanding Islamic-based STEAM, the ability to develop project-based RPPH (Resume-Based Learning Plans), skills in designing locally-based learning media, and exploratory classroom practices. Positive impacts were also evident at the institutional level through plans to establish a commitment to developing a teacher learning community and integrating Islamic STEAM into the school curriculum. These results demonstrate that Community Service Activities using the PAR method are effective in encouraging sustainable and relevant change for improving the quality of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in rural areas. These findings underscore the importance of contextual training based on local values in strengthening teacher competency and the potential for program replication in other areas with similar characteristics.

Abstract

This community service initiative intends to enhance fundamental Quran reading abilities through Iqro' education for migrant youth at the Community Learning Center (PKBM) PNF (National Islamic Education Center) located within the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The impetus for this mentoring program arises from the inadequate literacy proficiency in hijaiyah letters among these children, who predominantly belong to Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) families. Employing a descriptive methodology rooted in a service learning framework, the program involves active participation from both educators and pupils throughout the educational experience. The stages of the activity consist of preliminary observation, crafting a lesson plan, conducting Iqro' instruction, and engaging in collective reflection regarding the outcomes of the initiative. Data compilation was carried out via observation, interviews, and documentation, followed by analysis using a descriptive approach coupled with the service learning perspective to illustrate the advancements in skills and transformations in the participants' religious conduct. The findings from the community service project reveal an enhancement in hijaiyah reading competencies, an increased enthusiasm for religious activities among children, and a rise in parental engagement regarding their children’s education. Furthermore, this initiative bolsters religious principles, discipline, and accountability among the participants. Therefore, the Iqro' mentoring program can act as a framework for promoting religious character and religious literacy among children within Indonesian migrant communities overseas

Abstract

Adolescent girls in boarding school environments are particularly vulnerable to nutritional problems such as Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) and anemia due to limited food variety, monotonous menus, and insufficient nutrition knowledge. The GENZI (Gerakan Edukasi Remaja Sadar Gizi) program was implemented to strengthen nutrition literacy among female students through anthropometric assessment, individual counseling, group-based education, and the provision of visual media including a balanced-plate nutrition guideline banner. The program involved 82 students from a Madrasah Aliyah in Indralaya. Results indicated that although most students had a normal BMI, a notable proportion were categorized as underweight (22%), overweight (6.1%), obese (4.9%), and at risk of CED (29.3%). Behavioral factors such as low vegetable intake, picky eating, and limited protein options at the boarding school dining facility likely contributed to these conditions. Through interactive education sessions, practical guidance on balanced diets, and personalized counseling, the program successfully improved students’ understanding of adolescent nutritional needs and healthy eating practices within the constraints of the boarding school environment. Findings demonstrate that pesantren-based nutrition education interventions can support behavioral changes and help prevent nutrition-related problems among adolescent girls. Further development of similar programs is recommended, including collaboration with food service managers and long-term monitoring to enhance program effectiveness.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to enhance women’s religious literacy through a thematic Qur’anic interpretation training using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach within the BKMT community of Telanaipura District, Jambi City. The program focuses on strengthening women’s contextual understanding of Islamic teachings by involving 25 active female members of the majelis taklim in six training sessions conducted at Nurul Iman Mosque and participants’ homes. The core themes included women’s roles in the Qur’an, gender justice, Qur’anic family values, and religious moderation. The PAR approach was implemented through stages of coordination, needs assessment, thematic module development, interactive training, reflection, and evaluation. Qualitative data were collected through observation, group discussions, and participant reflections, then descriptively analyzed to capture learning dynamics and knowledge transformation. The results revealed a significant improvement in participants’ ability to interpret Qur’anic verses contextually, accompanied by increased awareness of moderation, justice, and equality in religious life. Participants showed active engagement and initiated independent women’s Qur’anic study groups as a follow-up action. This training demonstrates that participatory learning effectively empowers women through religious literacy by enhancing not only spiritual understanding but also leadership, solidarity, and social responsibility. The practical implication suggests that the PAR-based thematic tafsir training model can be replicated in other majelis taklim communities to foster a moderate, inclusive, and just Islamic society.
