Abstract

Kademangan Village is one of the villages in Bondowoso Regency which is geographically a densely populated lowland located in the center of Bondowoso City. This area is considered advanced because it directly borders the Bondowoso City sub-district, has road access which is a provincial road to Situbondo, Jember, and Banyuwangi regencies, and is a center of trade because in the village there are several educational institutions, hospitals, and government offices. The results of this study found that the empowerment of poor people who are victims of annual floods in Kademangan Village was carried out through several stages, namely posing the problem or identifying problems, analyzing problems, determining general and specific objectives, preparing detailed action plans, implementing activity programs, and evaluation. While the empowerment process is carried out through a series of activities in the form of preparing local cadre training programs, community assistance, waste bank management, procurement of public facilities to meet basic needs, and assistance for the community in the process of institutionalizing a democratic government system at the village level as a manifestation of regional autonomy. The life skills education provided varies, including self-awareness skills or personal skills, rational thinking skills, social skills or interpersonal skills, and vocational skills or often referred to as vocational skills are what will be further used in community empowerment because they are related to certain fields of work in the community. Abstract

The high prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) and hypertension in Sepanjang Jaya Village, Bekasi, coupled with limited access to health information, prompted the implementation of this community service program. The aim was to improve health literacy, promote the consumption of nutrient-rich local functional foods, and encourage physical activity. A community-based approach was employed, actively involving participants from the initial assessment to implementation and evaluation stages. The activities included: a pre-test and baseline health screening, interactive health education sessions, demonstrations of pumpkin pudding and roselle-ginger tea preparation, group hypertension exercise, a post-test, data analysis, and both formative and summative evaluations. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge scores (from 10–22 to 35–45) and an increase in the proportion of participants with normal blood pressure (from 29% to 69%). However, 74% of participants still exhibited above-normal blood glucose levels. Most participants (92.5%) reported that the program was beneficial and expressed commitment to applying the knowledge gained. In conclusion, participatory community-based health education combined with local functional food utilization proved effective in enhancing health literacy and improving blood pressure control, while sustained support is required for optimal blood glucose management.

Abstract

The village of Air Masin relies economically on the agricultural sector, particularly rice and horticultural crops. However, the community’s welfare level remains low, prompting many residents to seek additional income through small-scale enterprises. Unfortunately, limited knowledge and skills in managing these businesses hinder the potential for local economic development. Moreover, public awareness regarding environmentally friendly waste management remains minimal, leading to environmental pollution and posing health risks. Women, especially members of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), lack an understanding of how to effectively manage household waste. In fact, such waste can be processed into economically valuable products such as eco-enzymes, liquid organic fertilizers, animal feed, and soap. This study aims to empower PKK women through training in processing household waste into biocleaners natural cleaning products made from domestic organic waste. The training is expected to enhance the participants' skills in converting waste into eco-friendly products that can be marketed, thereby creating new economic opportunities. In addition, biocleaners help reduce environmental pollution and dependency on harmful chemical-based cleaning agents. Data analysis was conducted using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results indicate a significant increase in participants’ understanding of the basic concepts of biocleaners as environmentally friendly cleaning products. There was a 100% improvement in participants' skills in processing household waste into biocleaners, and growing interest in adopting this technology as an alternative to conventional chemical cleaners. This initiative demonstrates that environmental education not only improves knowledge but also drives behavioral change and fosters self-reliance at both household and community levels.

Abstract

Air Masin Village is a rice farming center currently facing serious challenges in sustainable production. Over the past five years, rice productivity has declined by 15%, allegedly due to the excessive use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. This practice has led to soil fertility degradation and increased pest resistance to chemical pesticides. In response to these issues, this community service program was designed to introduce locally sourced plant-based biostimulants as an environmentally friendly agricultural solution. Biostimulants have the potential to improve soil health, stimulate plant growth, and increase resilience to biotic and abiotic stress. This community service program aims to provide training to farmers in Air Masin Village on the techniques for producing and applying locally sourced plant-based biostimulants, thereby reducing dependence on synthetic chemical inputs. Furthermore, this program also aims to increase farmers' capacity in managing sustainable agricultural systems and open new business opportunities in the production and marketing of biostimulants. Several methods and stages of implementation were implemented, including identifying partner problems, activity outreach, training in the production of plant-based biostimulants, biostimulant effectiveness testing, farm management training, operational assistance, and finally, monitoring and evaluation. The training that has been implemented has had a positive impact on the local community, namely by changing mindsets and behavior regarding the importance of environmentally friendly agriculture.

Abstract

The design of English learning in Islamic boarding school-based institutions must be tailored to meet the needs of students while aligning with Islamic values. One of the methods employed involves English for Specific Purposes (ESP), which incorporates content related to the jurisprudence of corpse care. This community service program seeks to enhance students' English language proficiency by utilizing procedural texts within a fiqh context, ensuring that students not only grasp linguistic structures but also acquire relevant religious insights. The methods of implementation encompass stages of preparation, training, and evaluation. Training activities emphasize the development of reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills through procedural text materials that detail the processes involved in corpse care. The findings of the activity indicated a notable enhancement in students' vocabulary mastery, comprehension of text structure, and presentation skills. Furthermore, participants expressed favorable reactions as the content examined aligned with their spiritual and social requirements. Consequently, incorporating ESP grounded in corpse jurisprudence into the study of procedural texts may serve as a framework for enhancing contextual English literacy within the Islamic boarding school setting.

Abstract

The community approach is an effort to provide relevant education and socialisation to a homogeneous community. There are two efforts that must be made to the community in the midst of uncertain times, namely increasing community literacy and shaping social character. Literacy is an important part of developing community insight and knowledge. Social character is the basis for building networks and caring for one another. These two efforts were carried out by the community service group of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Islamic University of Bandung, through a community-based approach in Cibatu Village, Garut Regency. The aim of the activity was to improve literacy and shape social character through a community-based approach. The methods used in the implementation of the activity were interaction-based mentoring and socialisation. The steps taken were: 1) Identifying problems; 2) Planning activities and materials; 3) Coordinating activities; 4) Conducting socialisation; 5) Mentoring; 6) Monitoring and evaluation; and 7) Following up on the programme and documentation. The results of the activities show that the community is interested in improving literacy by reading books and responding to current issues with an objective perspective. Likewise, social character has been formed in relation to maintaining family relationships, caring for the environment, positive communication patterns, and spiritual attitudes in daily life.

Abstract

The main problem faced by Darussalam Mosque in Simbarwaringin Village, Trimurjo District, Central Lampung Regency, is the absence of a waqf land certificate since the mosque was established in 1980. This condition has caused legal uncertainty, potential disputes, and weak protection of religious assets. The obstacles include the lack of official waqf documentation, limited understanding of mosque administrators regarding legalization procedures, and conflicts in asset management, such as the kindergarten (TK) building on waqf land with non-transparent management. The purpose of this assistance activity is to provide understanding to the community and mosque administrators about the importance of waqf legalization, strengthen the nazhir institution, and accelerate the certification process of waqf land in order to obtain clear legal protection. The method used is the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach by positioning Darussalam Mosque as the main asset. The assistance was carried out through socialization of waqf regulations, legal education, facilitation of community deliberations, tracing the origin of the waqif, preparation of supporting documents, and coordination with the Waqf Pledge Deed Official (PPAIW), Religious Affairs Office (KUA), and the National Land Agency (BPN). The results of the assistance showed an increase in the community’s legal awareness, the formation of an official nazhir body consisting of at least five members, and the strengthening of mosque institutional governance. In addition, the legalization process opened opportunities to restore the management of waqf assets that had previously lacked transparency so that they return under nazhir’s control. Thus, waqf certification not only provides legal certainty over mosque land but also promotes the empowerment of mosque institutions as centers of worship, social activities, and education in Simbarwaringin Village.

Abstract

Efforts to prevent stunting at the village level require contextual and innovative strategies, particularly by involving community empowerment in improving children's nutritional quality. This community service program was implemented in Tanjung Seumantoh Village, Karang Baru Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, in response to the high percentage of families at risk of stunting (19.96%) and the low consumption of nutritious food caused by limited nutritional knowledge, high milk prices, and cases of lactose intolerance. The main objectives of this program were: (1) to enhance PKK mothers’ knowledge of balanced nutrition and the importance of adequate nutrient intake in preventing stunting, (2) to develop their skills in producing yogurt fortified with mung bean flour as a nutritious food product, and (3) to encourage the utilization of local food sources at the household level to support children's growth and development. The methods included an initial community assessment, nutrition education sessions, yogurt production training, post-activity evaluation through questionnaires, and follow-up mentoring. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with 84% of respondents demonstrating improved understanding of the nutritional benefits of mung beans as a fortifying ingredient in milk-based products. Additionally, a portion of respondents showed greater awareness of the relationship between child nutrition and stunting prevention (scale 5; 4.52±0.51), and most participants agreed that they were able to independently follow the steps of milk processing after the training (scale 4; 4.12±0.83). Furthermore, household-level food diversification increased, and 52% of participants were motivated to continue producing fortified yogurt independently. These findings indicate that fortifying UHT milk with mung bean flour through the active involvement of PKK mothers can serve as an effective, sustainable, and community-based strategy for stunting prevention while simultaneously contributing to family economic empowerment.
