Abstract

This community service activity aimed to raise public awareness regarding the health benefits of probiotics and the importance of environmental responsibility in managing plastic waste. Awareness of healthy lifestyles, especially in the consumption of functional foods like probiotics, is still relatively low among Indonesian students. Although probiotics are proven to support digestive health, many still perceive fermented drinks such as Yakult as regular beverages without recognizing their health value. Additionally, plastic waste from product packaging remains an environmental issue. This program implemented a practical and educational approach through socialization, field observation, and an industrial visit to PT Yakult Indonesia Persada in Mojokerto on June 24, 2025. The activity involved 120 participants aged 18–30, including students and young educators. They received information about probiotics and health, observed the production process, and learned about sustainable waste management based on the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principles. The results showed increased knowledge and motivation among participants to adopt healthier and more environmentally conscious behavior.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) play a strategic role in developing individuals who are morally upright and economically independent. However, many pesantren face environmental challenges due to poor waste management. This community service project aimed to implement the green economy concept based on zero waste through thematic learning as a means to enhance the economic independence of pesantren and create a cleaner, healthier environment. The project was conducted at the Sumber Anyar Pamekasan Islamic boarding school, located in the Fatahillah complex, utilizing the ADIED model (Analysis, Design, Implementation, Evaluation, and Development). Activities included socialization, educational training on waste management, hands-on workshops on converting waste into compost and crafts, and evaluation using pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant improvement in participants' understanding, with an N-Gain score of 0.76 (high category). These findings demonstrate that integrating thematic learning with green economy principles is effective in raising environmental awareness while generating economic value. The program contributes to the development of a sustainable, environmentally conscious curriculum and empowers students in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Household financial management remains a significant challenge in achieving family welfare, particularly within rural communities. Limited knowledge and ineffective financial practices often lead to unsustainable spending patterns, a lack of savings, and vulnerability to debt. This community service program was conducted in Makamhaji Village, Kartasura, Sukoharjo, involving 38 participants, to enhance residents' understanding and skills in managing family finances in accordance with Islamic principles. The methods applied included participatory counselling, group discussions, and practical simulations of Islamic household budgeting, supported by a pre-test and post-test design to measure program effectiveness. The results demonstrated a significant overall improvement of 45.2% in participants’ financial literacy, particularly in preparing a Sharia-compliant household budget, understanding the concept of an emergency fund, managing income zakat, and avoiding riba in financial transactions. Participant reflections also indicated that participatory and practical simulation methods were highly effective in enhancing awareness and financial capability grounded in Islamic values.

Abstract

The Community Partnership Empowerment Program for the Delta Samudera Timur Group was carried out in Dusun Tegalsari Dukuh Kupang, Jabon District, Sidoarjo Regency. This activity was implemented to address the clean water crisis caused by brackish water conditions that are not suitable for consumption. The main objective is to improve access to clean and consumable water while also promoting gender equality in coastal communities. Efforts were made through the installation of a brackish water purification system utilizing local materials (ALPAMAL), along with gender-based mentoring that emphasizes the distribution of domestic roles and economic opportunities. The implementation began with a community needs survey, followed by the construction and installation of the purification system, and concluded with an evaluation through post-activity interviews. The results showed that the technology successfully produced clean water for both consumption and household needs. The mentoring also increased men’s awareness and participation in domestic work, while opening new business opportunities for women, such as community-based culinary ventures. This program demonstrates that the combination of environmentally friendly technology and social approaches can serve as a catalyst for improving the quality of life and transforming gender relations in coastal areas.

Abstract

This community service activity focused on developing feed production techniques using local raw materials for mud crab farmers in Madak Belek Hamlet, Sekotong District. The main challenge faced by farmers is the high cost of commercial feed, which reduces profit margins. In fact, the area is rich in underutilized nutrient-rich local resources such as trash fish and seafood processing by-products. A participatory approach was applied, including observation, socialization, demonstration, hands-on training, and evaluation. The training emphasized feed formulation and the application of 5% wheat gluten as a binder, which had been proven in preliminary studies to enhance feed stability in water. The results showed an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in processing local ingredients into quality feed. The expected impacts include reducing dependence on commercial feed, lowering production costs, and improving the efficiency and sustainability of mud crab farming. For further optimization, feed performance testing on crab growth and economic feasibility analysis are required.
