Abstract

Village livestock waste presents both an environmental burden and an underutilized resource capable of strengthening rural livelihoods when transformed into marketable organic fertilizer. This study develops a community-based circular agribusiness model that integrates market validation, pricing analysis, and value-chain coordination to improve the commercial feasibility of waste-to-fertilizer initiatives in rural Indonesia. A convergent mixed-methods design was implemented, combining a Price Sensitivity Meter survey with Cost–Volume–Profit and Break-Even Point calculations, supported by a simplified Value Chain Analysis involving farmers, processors, kiosks, and local cooperative actors. Data were collected from 60 small-scale livestock households, 150 fertilizer users, and 12–15 key informants across Arjasa District. Findings indicate an acceptable price range of IDR 40,000–80,000 per 25-kg bag, with an optimal price point near IDR 60,000. At this level, contribution margins remain positive across direct, cooperative, and kiosk channels, with the break-even requirement estimated at 180–230 bags per month. The value-chain assessment reveals constraints related to moisture variability, inconsistent granulometry, and high last-mile distribution costs. Proposed coordination measures include minimum quality standards, scheduled collection and delivery routes, and simple offtake agreements with a 3–5% quality-based incentive. Together, these elements form a replicable empowerment-oriented model that enhances income stability, reduces waste, and supports community-driven resource governance. The study demonstrates that circular agribusiness, when anchored in market evidence and locally manageable coordination mechanisms, can contribute to socio-economic resilience and strengthen community participation in sustainable rural development

Abstract

Developing students’ numeracy literacy skills is essential in the 21st century, as these skills enable learners to interpret quantitative information, solve real-world problems, and make reasoned decisions. However, the mastery of numeracy literacy among elementary students in Indonesia remains uneven across regions. This study aimed to analyze the numeracy literacy skills of elementary school students in Region III Cirebon to identify their strengths and weaknesses across different competency indicators. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving five elementary schools representing the region. Data were collected through numeracy literacy tests and semi-structured interviews. The instrument was developed based on six indicators: communication, representation, reasoning and argumentation, mathematization, problem-solving strategy, and the use of symbolic, formal, and technical operations. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that students’ overall numeracy literacy skills ranged from medium to low levels. Communication skills were relatively strong, while reasoning, argumentation, and problem-solving strategies were moderate. In contrast, mathematization and symbolic operation skills were notably weak. These findings suggest that numeracy learning in elementary schools still emphasizes procedural understanding rather than conceptual and contextual reasoning. The study contributes to educational research by providing empirical evidence of the current state of numeracy literacy in elementary schools and offers implications for curriculum development and teacher training aimed at fostering deeper mathematical understanding and application.

Abstract

Qurban is an annual Islamic ritual with profound spiritual and social significance; its proper implementation is essential to ensure that meat distributed to the public complies with halal and thoyyib principles. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an education- and practice-based training programme in improving participants’ knowledge and technical skills across key domains of qurban implementation (animal eligibility, slaughterer qualifications, facilities and hygiene, animal welfare, documentation, distribution ethics, and community engagement). The programme combined counselling, hands-on training, live slaughter demonstrations, and pre- and post-test evaluations with 70 participants predominantly younger adults (19–22 years old), mostly senior high school educated, and largely employed in the private sector. Overall knowledge improved from a mean pre-test score of 3.90 to 4.11 on the post-test (t = 3.35, p < 0.01), with the largest gains in animal welfare and slaughter-facility standards (e.g., infrastructure: Δ = 0.59; t = 4.32, p < 0.01). Several domains (e.g., hygiene, documentation, distribution, and ethical and community aspects) showed smaller, occasionally non-significant improvements, indicating areas for curricular strengthening through more structured modules, demonstration-rich sessions, and role-play simulations. The findings confirm that an education- and practice-led approach effectively enhances both knowledge and operational competence among qurban committee members. Sustainability is expected to be reinforced through collaboration with religious bodies, local authorities, and halal stakeholders to uplift community-level halal and thoyyib slaughter practices.
