Abstract

Coastal areas face high risks of hydrological disasters that demand early preparedness, particularly among the youth. However, conventional mitigation education methods often fail to stimulate active student participation. This community service aims to strengthen disaster awareness in coastal and marine environments at SMA Negeri 20 Medan through gamification-based digital learning innovations. The approach was structured experiential learning, comprising digital learning design, socialization of mitigation concepts, and hands-on learning using simulation game media. In these sessions, students were challenged to make tactical mitigation decisions within virtual disaster scenarios. Evaluation of the activity demonstrated significant effectiveness, with student engagement levels recording above 80%. The application of gamification proved to deliver an immersive experience that enabled students to design area mitigation, evidenced by 90% of students successfully achieving the highest scores in the simulation to create disaster-free zones. This activity concludes that integrating gamification into disaster education effectively transforms theoretical understanding into practical competence while enhancing collective student awareness of coastal environmental risks and disaster mitigation.

Abstract

The increasing number of older adults requires promotive and preventive efforts to maintain quality of life, as aging is associated with declines in physical, psychological, and social functioning. Preliminary observations in RW 13, Leuwigajah Village, South Cimahi District, revealed that many older adults did not engage in regular physical activity and had limited knowledge regarding safe and appropriate exercise. This program aimed to improve older adults’ knowledge through a Structured Elderly Exercise Program (Senam Ceria) integrating health education and direct practice. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The intervention consisted of health education sessions, interactive discussions, structured exercise practice, and leaflet distribution. A total of 11 older adults participated in the program. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results demonstrated an increase in the mean knowledge score from 77.27 ± 8.28 in the pre-test to 97.27 ± 4.67 in the post-test. The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.003). The distribution of knowledge categories improved from 45% “good” and 55% “moderate” at pre-test to 100% “good” at post-test. The Structured Elderly Exercise Program (Senam Ceria) was proven effective in enhancing knowledge, participation, and awareness of the importance of regular physical activity among older adults. The program is recommended for sustainable implementation as part of community-based elderly health promotion initiatives.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low awareness of construction workers towards K3 in a small-scale boarding house construction project in Wanamukti, Tembalang, Semarang, where the construction sector contributes >30% of national work accidents due to minimal use of PPE and supervision. The problem formulation includes low knowledge ofK3, non-compliance with PPE, and the absence of simple SOPs that lead to high risks and low productivity. The program's objective is to improve understanding, skills, and a safe work culture through training and mentoring. The research method consisted of an initial survey, a pretest with 15 workers, applied K3 training with PPE demonstrations and safety talks, field mentoring, and a posttest using the N Gain formula. The results showed an increase in posttest scores from the range of 30–60 to 70–95 (100% of participants increased), with an average N Gain of 56.78% (moderate category); workers began to get used to wearing helmets, safety shoes, and gloves, and a decrease in unsafe acts. The conclusion is that the training is effective in improving safety and productivity. Suggestions for future service include continuing regular training, developing K3 SOPs, and expanding to similar projects in several other cities.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the digital financial literacy of traditional jamu sellers in Karya Jaya Village, Rambutan District, Tebing Tinggi City, through the implementation of a structured training and mentoring model. The program was designed using a participatory approach that integrated needs assessment, classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, and post-training mentoring. Initial field observations revealed that most participants relied on memory-based or manual bookkeeping practices, resulting in inaccurate financial records, difficulty separating personal and business finances, and limited ability to evaluate profitability. Training sessions introduced participants to user-friendly digital bookkeeping applications, particularly VoCash, focusing on cash flow recording, expense categorization, financial separation, and preparation of basic financial reports. Evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments demonstrated an average increase of 45% in participants’ financial knowledge and digital competency. Furthermore, 85% of participants reported being able to independently record transactions after the mentoring phase. Beyond technical improvements, the program fostered behavioral changes in financial discipline and transparency. The findings indicate that community-based digital literacy interventions can significantly strengthen micro-entrepreneurs’ financial management capacity and support sustainable local economic development.

Abstract

Maukeli Village in Mauponggo Subdistrict, Nagekeo Regency, possesses significant terrestrial and marine resources that have not been optimally managed. Limited public awareness of environmental management and sustainable resource utilization remains a major obstacle to improving community welfare. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to integrate the concepts of Green Economy and Blue Economy as a strategy for sustainable, locally based empowerment. The program was conducted from April to May 2025 and involved 10–15 community members using participatory methods, including counseling sessions, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), field observations, and pre- and post-activity evaluations through interviews and observation. The results indicate an increase in community knowledge regarding waste management and compost production derived from agricultural waste. Furthermore, a business group operating under the Blue Economy framework was established within the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). As a follow-up initiative, a preliminary seaweed cultivation plan based on coastal potential was formulated. The integration of Green and Blue Economy principles serves as a strategic foundation for enhancing ecological awareness, strengthening local institutions, and improving community welfare in Maukeli Village.

Abstract

The datas of Semarang City climate 2024 shows that the highest rainfall in the city occurred in February, at 356 mm/month, exceeding the highest average for Indonesia. Gajahmungkur District has 8 sub-districts urban villages, including Sampangan sub-district, which has a high rainfall of 83.65 mm/year. Sampangan sub-district is a densely populated area, so during heavy rains many areas are flooded. The cause is the condition of yards and road shoulders dominated by cement pavement and paving blocks, so water cannot be absorbed directly into the ground. Rainwater flows and is trapped, forming puddles. During high rainfall intensity, the city's drainage system is also unable to accommodate the flow from waterways in residential areas, resulting in flooding. Most residents have heard of biopores but do not have sufficient knowledge about their benefits and how to make them. Therefore, training was held on making biopore infiltration holes. This method aims to increase rainwater absorption into the soil (water conservation). The materials are simple and most easily used in household environments. Biopore holes must first be filled with organic waste, including fallen leaves, weeds, and kitchen waste that is usually disposed of in the trash. The goal is to attract soil organisms to work and loosen the soil. Adding organic waste to the biopore holes can reduce the amount of waste decomposing and polluting the air, while also producing compost. Residents have responded positively to the installation of biopore holes, and implementation in the field has shown results in several areas where flooding and rainwater runoff occur.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and hypertension are leading causes of global morbidity and mortality and require comprehensive long-term management. During Ramadan, alterations in dietary patterns, medication schedules, and physical activity may increase the risk of complications among patients with chronic conditions. A situational analysis of participants enrolled in the Chronic Disease Management Program (PROLANIS) at Klinik Pratama Sehat Budi Luhur Cimahi revealed limited understanding regarding safe fasting criteria and recognition of danger signs. This community service initiative aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge of safe fasting guidelines. The intervention employed an interactive educational session combined with discussion and evaluation through pre-test and post-test assessments involving 21 PROLANIS participants diagnosed with DM and hypertension. Pre-test results indicated that only 33.3% of participants demonstrated good knowledge, while 19.1% were categorized as having poor knowledge. Following the intervention, post-test results showed a significant improvement, with 100% of participants achieving a good knowledge level. These findings suggest that structured education effectively improves participants’ understanding of risk stratification, therapy adjustment, dietary management, and self-monitoring practices during fasting. In conclusion, community-based education delivered through the PROLANIS framework represents an effective promotive and preventive strategy to support DM and hypertension management during Ramadan. Regular implementation of similar educational programs is recommended to sustain adherence and prevent long-term complications.
