Abstract

Oral and dental health is a component of overall health that can significantly impact a child's quality of life. Dental caries is a major oral health problem among preschool children. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the severity of dental caries and the quality of life of children attending TK Bersama Ceria Delitua kindergarten. This analytical survey employed a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all children enrolled. A sample size of 30 participants was selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires and dental examinations. Data analysis was performed using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. The mean decay (d) score was 5.47 ± 2.474, the mean extraction (e) score was 0.80 ± 1.064, and the mean filling (f) score was 0.13 ± 0.434. The overall mean def-t score was 6.40 ± 2.908. The mean child quality of life, as measured by the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS), was 46.43 ± 7.873. Spearman's correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the severity of dental caries and children's quality of life (p = 0.003; r = 0.521), indicating a strong relationship. The study concludes that a higher def-t score is associated with a poorer quality of life in children.

Abstract

Productivity is a critical measure of individual performance, particularly in the healthcare sector, where human resources play a pivotal role in achieving organisational and national development goals. This study examines the factors influencing work productivity among employees at the Aceh Provincial Health Office, focusing on education, motivation, discipline, work ethic, and work attitude. Using a descriptive quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 100 employees through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Univariate and bivariate analyses, including chi-square tests, were employed to assess the relationships between variables. The results indicate that 68% of employees demonstrated good work productivity. Motivation, discipline, work ethic, and work attitude showed statistically significant positive correlations with productivity (p = 0.000). Specifically, 95.2% of highly motivated employees exhibited good productivity, compared to only 25.2% of those with poor motivation. Similarly, 98.8% of disciplined employees and 81.5% of those with a strong work ethic demonstrated good productivity. A positive work attitude also correlated strongly with productivity (78.0% vs. 61.0% for negative attitudes). However, education level did not significantly influence productivity (p = 0.391), with 80% of highly educated and 66.7% of less educated employees showing good productivity. These findings highlight the importance of fostering motivation, discipline, work ethic, and positive work attitudes to enhance productivity in healthcare settings. While education level was not a significant factor, addressing the other variables can create a conducive work environment and improve service quality. This study underscores the need for organisations to prioritise these factors through incentives, recognition, and professional development opportunities to achieve optimal productivity and organisational success.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of work commitment and motivation on nurse performance at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital, Bener Meriah Regency, Indonesia, using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. A total sampling of 49 nurses from inpatient wards participated in the study. Data were collected via questionnaires measuring work commitment (Guttman scale), work motivation (Guttman scale), and nurse performance (Likert scale). Bivariate analysis using Fisher’s Exact Test revealed a significant association between both work commitment and nurse performance (p = 0.000) and work motivation and nurse performance (p = 0.003). Nurses with high commitment demonstrated significantly higher performance, with 81.8% exhibiting high performance compared to 25.9% of nurses with low commitment. Similarly, nurses with high work motivation showed significantly higher performance, with 70.4% categorized as high performers compared to 27.3% of those with low motivation. These findings highlight the critical role of work commitment and motivation in enhancing nurse performance, suggesting that interventions aimed at improving these factors could lead to significant improvements in healthcare delivery at Muyang Kute Hospital. The study underscores the importance of addressing factors that influence nurse commitment and motivation to optimize patient outcomes and organizational success.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between motivation, compensation, and nurse performance at Muyang Kute Hospital, Bener Meriah Regency, Indonesia, using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 154 nurses was randomly selected from a population of 250. Data were collected via questionnaires measuring motivation, compensation, and performance, categorized as "good" or "poor." Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test revealed a significant association between both motivation and compensation with nurse performance (p < 0.05). Nurses with positive motivation and compensation demonstrated significantly better performance. Specifically, 98.1% of nurses with positive motivation and 94.9% with positive compensation exhibited good performance. These findings underscore the critical role of intrinsic and extrinsic factors in enhancing nurse performance, highlighting the need for strategies to improve motivation and ensure adequate compensation to optimize healthcare delivery.

Abstract

This research analyzes healthcare service quality and its impact on inpatient satisfaction among National Health Insurance-Contribution Assistance Recipient (JKN-PBI) participants at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital, Bener Meriah Regency, Indonesia. Employing a descriptive-analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach, data was collected from 69 randomly selected JKN-PBI inpatients using questionnaires. The study examined five service quality dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance, and their relationship with patient satisfaction. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test revealed that reliability (p=0.003) and assurance (p=0.000) significantly influenced patient satisfaction, while tangibles, responsiveness, and empathy did not show statistically significant relationships (p>0.05). Reliability and assurance, reflecting consistent service delivery and staff competence, were crucial in fostering patient trust and satisfaction. Empathy, though not statistically significant, showed a trend towards positively influencing satisfaction, indicating a need for improvement in patient-centered care. The findings highlight the importance of reliability and assurance in enhancing JKN-PBI patient satisfaction. Recommendations include implementing training programs to improve staff empathy, maintaining high standards in reliability and assurance, and continuous patient feedback monitoring.

Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing the performance of administrative staff at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital, a government-owned healthcare facility in Bener Meriah, Indonesia. Utilizing an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 89 permanent administrative staff members through questionnaires and hospital documents. Bivariate analysis, using the chi-square test, revealed a significant relationship between incentive provision and employee performance (p<0.001), with adequate incentives correlating with good performance. Similarly, effective employee development significantly impacted performance (p<0.001), with effective development programs leading to better performance. However, work facility provision did not significantly influence performance (p=0.475). The findings highlight the critical role of incentives and employee development in enhancing administrative staff performance, suggesting that targeted interventions in these areas could improve service quality and patient satisfaction.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of healthcare service quality on patient satisfaction among hypertensive outpatients at Muyang Kute Regional General Hospital. Employing a quantitative, cross-sectional design, data were collected from 79 patients using a questionnaire assessing five service quality dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance) and overall patient satisfaction. Bivariate analysis, utilizing the chi-square test, was conducted to examine relationships between service quality dimensions and patient satisfaction. Results indicated generally positive perceptions of service quality dimensions, with tangibles, reliability, and assurance rated highly. However, empathy and responsiveness showed higher dissatisfaction rates. Notably, only assurance demonstrated a statistically significant association with patient satisfaction (p=0.002), where patients perceiving "Good" assurance were more likely to report satisfaction. Overall patient satisfaction was mixed, with 54.43% reporting satisfaction and 45.57% reporting dissatisfaction. The study highlights the critical role of staff competence and patient confidence (assurance) in driving satisfaction. Recommendations include targeted interventions to improve empathy and responsiveness, continuous monitoring of all service quality dimensions, and further investigation into potential underlying factors affecting overall satisfaction.

Abstract

Self-medication and home remedies are the most frequently used methods to relieve menstrual discomfort among female college students. The practice of self-medication varies among adolescent female students. Therefore, this study aimed to observe and analyze the factors associated with the practice of self-medication for primary dysmenorrhea among university students.This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 207 female health students from Universitas Prima Indonesia. The sample was obtained through a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (chi-square and Fisher's exact test), and multivariate analysis (logistic regression). The prevalence of self-medication was reported to be 36.7%. Several factors were found to be associated with self-medication practices for primary dysmenorrhea among students, namely menstrual cycle (p<0.001, OR: 3.27, 95% CI 1.75-6.10), duration of pain during menstruation (p<0.001 OR: 3.85, 95% CI 2.10-7.07), and severity of pain (p=0.009 OR: 2.21, 95% CI 1.24-3.93). In contrast, age (p=0.316), academic year (p=0.889), family history (p=0.470), age at menarche (p=0.223), and menstrual duration (p=0.552) did not show a statistically significant association with self-medication practices for primary dysmenorrhea. The dominant factor influencing self-medication practices for primary dysmenorrhea was pain duration. Notably, self-medication with medications was found to be relatively low among health students with primary dysmenorrhea. Therefore, educational programs that address the limitations of self-medication with drugs need to be implemented effectively.

Abstract

Background: High-quality healthcare is vital for effective TB management. Patient satisfaction reflects service quality and influences treatment adherence. This study investigates the characteristics and satisfaction levels of pulmonary TB outpatients at Puskesmas Polonia, Medan, a high-burden facility. Aims: To describe the demographic characteristics of TB patients and analyze their satisfaction across various healthcare service dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and operational satisfaction). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025, involving 82 pulmonary TB outpatients selected via purposive sampling. Data on patient characteristics and satisfaction (overall and by dimension, using a dichotomous scale) were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using univariate statistics. Results: The majority of the 82 TB patients were male (63.4%), with the largest age groups being 21-30 and 31-40 years (24.4% each). Most had upper secondary education (32.9%). Overall, 76.83% of patients reported satisfaction. Satisfaction levels varied across dimensions: assurance (83.0%) and reliability (79.0%) were highest, while operational satisfaction (67.0%) and responsiveness (71.0%) were lower. Conclusion: While overall satisfaction was high, specific service dimensions, particularly operational processes and responsiveness, require attention to enhance the patient experience for TB patients at Puskesmas Polonia. These findings can inform targeted interventions to improve service quality and support TB control efforts.

Abstract

Self-medication, defined as the use of medication without a prescription or professional guidance, is a global phenomenon with significant implications for both individual and public health. This behaviour is frequently motivated by the desire to alleviate minor ailments, avoid healthcare costs, or circumvent lengthy consultation waiting times. While it can constitute a component of responsible self-care, self-medication also carries risks such as adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, antibiotic resistance, and the potential for misuse. This research aimed to analyse the factors associated with self-medication behaviour among non-healthcare students at Universitas Prima Indonesia. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected via an online questionnaire distributed to 188 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Economics at Universitas Prima Indonesia, selected using simple random sampling. The independent variables in this study were gender, knowledge of self-medication, peer recommendations, and academic stress, while the dependent variable was self-medication behaviour. Data analysis involved univariate statistics to describe the characteristics of each variable and bivariate analysis using the Chi-squared test to examine the relationships between variables. The results indicated that knowledge (OR=3.230; p=0.000), peer recommendations (OR=2.046; p=0.000), and academic stress (OR=1.552; p=0.002) were significantly associated with self-medication, whereas gender was not (p=0.126). It can be concluded that a lack of knowledge, peer influence, and academic stress increase the risk of self-medication. Educational interventions and mental health support are necessary to reduce unsafe self-medication practices.
