Abstract

Education in today’s modern world often faces challenges such as a lack of motivation to learn and a decline in students’ moral integrity. In today's educational landscape, many systems place too much emphasis on cognitive achievement, neglecting the emotional and spiritual development of students. This article examines the Al-bāṭiniyyah Values and Character Formation in Modern Education: A Hermeneutic Study of Imam Al-Zarnūjī's Thought. Drawing from Imam Al-Zarnūjī’s Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim, which emphasizes the importance of sincere intention (niyyah) in acquiring knowledge, the study explores how spiritual values can be incorporated into modern education. Using a hermeneutic approach and a literature review, the study analyzes Al-Zarnūjī’s principles and compares them with Thomas Lickona’s character education model. The findings reveal that the Al-bāṭinīyah approach offers a transformative, holistic educational method that balances cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions. It emphasizes values such as sincerity, humility, and ethical discipline as being essential to character formation. The study concludes that the Al-bāṭinīyah principle enriches not only Islamic education but also contributes universally to modern character education, fostering ethical awareness and human dignity.

Abstract

This article explores curriculum mapping, needs analysis, and Arabic learning curriculum design in accordance with the direction of IAIN Kediri's institutional development towards UIN Sheikh Wasil. Using a qualitative approach, the primary data is in the form of curriculum structure documents and learning tools, sources and teaching staff, and learning activities. The data were collected using documentation, interviews, and observation. The results show that the Arabic learning curriculum map at IAIN Kediri has shifted. Arabic learning needs can be aligned with the scientific core of each study program: either as an institutional subject encompassing all language skills and elements, or tailored to program‑specific disciplines (religious/language‑based or general). In religious programs, the curriculum emphasizes reading religious texts and complex grammatical structures to support comprehension of specialist subjects, whereas general programs employ religious texts with basic grammar for reading purposes, omitting speaking skills. This dual‑path model necessitates institutional coordination to develop a consensus‑based core curriculum and tailored modules. Future research should employ mixed‑methods designs to assess learning outcomes and instructional efficacy across religious versus general tracks, and longitudinally investigate the impact of skill‑element proportions on graduates’ academic and professional competencies.

Abstract

The high level of academic procrastination in the Scientific Writing course needs serious attention because, if left unchecked, it can result in failure to achieve academic achievement. The main focus of this study is to analyze the impact of Project-Based Learning Model on academic procrastination and examine the impact of Self-Regulated Learning as a mediating variable among students in Scientific Writing courses. This research uses an experimental research design. The research population was all students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun, Indonesia, who were taking the Scientific Writing courses. A sample of 186 students was obtained by using the cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used were the Self-Regulated Learning scale and the academic procrastination scale. Data analysis includes descriptive data analysis, prerequisite tests, and inferential data analysis using a two-way ANOVA. The following research findings support the following findings: (1) students in the Scientific Paper course who received a project-based learning model showed significantly higher levels of academic procrastination than students who received a conventional learning model; (2) students in the Scientific Paper course who had high levels of self-regulated learning and those who had low levels of self-regulated learning showed significantly higher levels of academic procrastination; and (3) there was an interaction effect between the project-based learning model and self-regulated learning on academic procrastination of students in the Scientific Paper course. It is thought that the growth of SRL will improve academic performance and boost students' accountability for their education. To track the evolution of SRL and the calibre of students' scientific work over time, further longitudinal study can be done. Another possible line of inquiry is the creation of a hybrid learning paradigm that specifically combines SRL training and PBL.

Abstract

The escalating global environmental crisis demands active participation from educational institutions, particularly Islamic institutions with unique theological foundations for environmental stewardship. This research addresses the gap between Islamic values and modern environmental management by analyzing the innovative “Eco-Pesantren Model” at SMPI Mambaul Ulum, identifying implementation mechanisms, and evaluating impacts on students’ environmental awareness. Using qualitative case study methodology with participatory observation, in-depth interviews with 25 key informants, and document analysis, this research develops an integrated model combining spiritual transformation with practical environmental management. The study introduces “Ecological Tauhid” concept, integrating modern environmental principles with Islamic values through Contextual Environmental Fiqh. Implementation includes four programs: Zero Waste Islami (85% consistent waste sorting), Blessed Energy (40% electricity reduction), Water of Life (ablution water reduction from 12 to 3 liters), and Islamic value-based environmental curriculum (environmental fiqh understanding increased from 72 to 86 points). The “Environmentally Conscious Family” program achieved 78% family participation with 60% plastic waste reduction. This research contributes the “Ecological Tauhid” paradigm as a new framework for Islamic environmental education, providing a replicable model supporting SDGs 4, 13, and 15.
