Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the application of the Google Sites-based Blended Learning model in improving students' learning independence and critical thinking skills. With a qualitative approach and case study design, this study involved 12 students in the fourth semester of the Christian Religious Education Study Program at IAKN Tarutung who participated in the Curriculum Development lecture. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type that aims to explore in depth students' experiences, views, and beliefs towards the use of Google Sites in Blended Learning strategies. Data collection techniques were carried out through direct observation, individual interviews, and structured group interviews. Data analysis follows five stages of the cycle, namely compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and concluding. The results of the study show that Blended Learning is able to encourage students to learn independently by managing time, choosing learning resources, and designing reflective learning strategies. In addition, students show improvements in critical thinking, such as openness to new ideas, the ability to make decisions, seek relevant information, and analyze problems systematically. However, some students still have difficulty in identifying the root of the problem as part of solving the problem. These findings indicate that Blended Learning is not only effective as a technical strategy, but also as a holistic pedagogical approach in 21st century skills development. This study suggests the need for training on independent learning strategies and strengthening problem-solving to optimize technology-based learning outcomes in higher education.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom in education is a crucial effort in the development of contextual learning in Indonesia, particularly in preserving and actualizing cultural values such as those of the Batak Toba community. This study aims to examine how the values of Batak Toba local wisdom can be integrated into contextual learning in schools. Using a qualitative approach through a literature review, this research involved a thematic analysis of scientific sources—including journals, academic books, and relevant research reports—published over the last two decades. The inclusion criteria focused on literature discussing local wisdom, character education, and curriculum development in the Indonesian context. The findings reveal that Batak Toba local wisdom contains rich educational values such as dalihan na tolu, mutual respect, communal harmony, and spiritual beliefs that can enrich classroom instruction, foster character development, support the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka, and enhance students’ cultural literacy. These values, when integrated into learning, not only make education more meaningful and rooted in students’ realities but also strengthen national identity in a multicultural society. The study concludes that integrating Batak Toba local wisdom into school-based learning is an urgent and strategic step to ensure that education in Indonesia remains culturally grounded, ethically formative, and responsive to the needs of future generations. This research contributes to the discourse on culturally relevant pedagogy and opens new pathways for designing educational models that harmonize local heritage with national educational goals.

Abstract

This research aims to assess the understanding of English-borrowing words among fifth-semester students at Universitas Islam Riau, Pekanbaru. The methodology employed involved a test consisting of 30 questions, categorized into three types: 10 questions each for loanwords, blend words, and loan shifts. A total of 50 students from the fifth semester of English language in the academic year 2023/2024 participated in the study, providing insights into their vocabulary comprehension. The findings revealed that the term "active" achieved the highest percentage of correct answers at 90%, indicating strong familiarity among students. Conversely, the term "terror" recorded the lowest recognition rate at 64%, suggesting challenges in understanding its complex connotations. Other terms, including "program" (80%) and "application," "technique," "quality," and "information" (76%), demonstrated moderate performance levels, highlighting gaps in comprehension that warrant further attention. The novelty of this research lies in its focused examination of various types of loan-blended words and their specific performance levels among Indonesian learners. This study not only contributes to the existing literature on vocabulary acquisition but also emphasizes the importance of targeted instructional strategies to enhance students' proficiency in recognizing and using loan-blended words effectively. By addressing identified gaps through engaging teaching methods, educators can facilitate improved vocabulary acquisition and overall language skills among students, thereby enriching their educational experience in an increasingly globalized linguistic landscape

Abstract

The need for effective and engaging Qur’anic learning methods has led to the adoption of various pedagogical innovations in Islamic education. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Wafa method—integrating the Gharib book, Quantum Teaching approach, TANDUR learning model, and Wafa Tilawah application—in enhancing students’ tajwid and Qur’anic recitation (Taḥsīn Qirāʾah al-Qurʾān) at SMP Insan Cendekia Madani, Serpong. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings were examined narratively and validated using triangulation techniques to ensure credibility from multiple sources. The results show that the Wafa method is effectively implemented through a multi-sensory approach involving visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities. Key success factors include competent teachers, diverse learning media, adequate infrastructure, and a supportive school culture. However, limitations such as varying student abilities and time constraints necessitate more individualized learning strategies. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative examination of the Wafa method with contemporary pedagogical frameworks in a formal school setting, which is still underexplored in Indonesian Islamic education literature. This study suggests that the Wafa method is not only effective in improving students’ Qur’anic recitation skills but also adaptable for broader implementation in similar educational contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the experiences and perceived meanings of implementing a technology-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in English language education and its contribution to developing the professional competence of postgraduate students at Universitas PGRI Ronggolawe Tuban. Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research adopts Colaizzi’s method to deeply analyze students’ lived experiences. The participants consisted of 25 postgraduate students enrolled in a zero-credit English course during the matriculation program of the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions involving students, lecturers, and institutional records. Through Colaizzi’s seven-step data analysis, themes emerged highlighting significant improvements in students’ English proficiency, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. The technology-integrated PjBL approach fostered student engagement in authentic learning contexts while encouraging learner autonomy and responsibility. Additionally, the lecturer's role shifted to that of a facilitator, guiding students to take ownership of their learning processes. The study concludes that the integration of technology into PjBL not only supports effective language acquisition but also cultivates essential 21st-century competencies. These findings underline the holistic benefits of this approach in enhancing the academic and professional readiness of postgraduate students in English education.

Abstract

This study investigates the evalution of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) policies in Indonesia and their impact on educational quality, access, and institutional competitiveness. A case study of Al-Ikhlash Junior High School in Lumajang was conducted using a critical-historical methodology, combining document analysis of national education policies (1989–2023), field observations, and in-depth interviews with 15 stakeholders. The findings indicate a significant policy shift from domestication to accommodation, marked by the integration of IRE into the national curriculum and the enhancement of the learning environment. Key outcomes include: (1) improved educational quality through the development of contextual curricula and teacher training programs, (2) increased access via inclusive admission policies and infrastructure investments, and (3) enhanced institutional competitiveness, evidenced by student achievements in national religious competitions. Despite these advancements, challenges such as technological disparities and uneven resource distribution remain. Theoretically, this research contributes to the field of policy implementation by highlighting how local actors adapt national mandates. Practically, it offers three strategies for optimizing IRE: (a) digital upskilling for educators, (b) public-private partnerships to strengthen infrastructure, and (c) curriculum moderation that balances religious values with 21st-century skills.
