Abstract

Arabic language learning at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level faces significant challenges in vocabulary (mufradat) acquisition, particularly in rural areas with limited educational resources. This study examines the effectiveness of implementing an object-based Service Learning method to enhance mufradat mastery at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Swasta Al-Ikhlas, Naga Timbul Village, Tanjung Morawa District, through a Participatory Action Research approach integrated with Maqasid Shariah principles. The research employed a mixed-methods design with PAR cycles encompassing participatory planning, collaborative implementation, systematic observation, and critical reflection. Eleven students from grades IV-V participated in an intensive five-day Arabic language halaqah program facilitated by university students during their community service (KKNT). Data collection instruments included daily vocabulary tests, participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and visual documentation. Quantitative findings revealed a consistent 100% achievement rate in mastering five new vocabulary items daily throughout the program, with an overall retention rate of 95.4%. Qualitative analysis demonstrated significant transformation in students' affective dimensions, marked by increased active participation, linguistic confidence, and intrinsic motivation. The concrete object-based approach, combined with talaqqi techniques, educational games, and contextual practice, proved effective in constructing strong semantic associations. The integration of Maqasid Shariah principles manifested in achieving hifz ad-din through strengthening the language of revelation, hifz al-'aql through intellectual capacity development, and hifz an-nasl through Quranic generation formation. Time constraints were addressed through strategic collaboration with madrasah teachers to ensure program sustainability. This research contributes to developing a holistic Arabic language learning model that integrates cognitive, affective, social, and spiritual dimensions aligned with Indonesian Islamic education characteristics.

Abstract

This community service project aimed to explore the religious practices of Muslim youth in Latak Ayah Village, Simeulue Cut District, Simeulue Regency. The initiative addressed the irregular performance of five daily prayers and fasting among adolescents, particularly focusing on revitalizing awareness and commitment through targeted religious interventions. Using qualitative methods, the team conducted interviews with community leaders, organized training on basic Islamic rituals, and facilitated halaqah (study circles). The intervention involved 30 youths and engaged five local religious figures. The outcomes showed increased parental involvement in guiding children’s worship and improved motivation among early adolescents to participate in congregational prayers. Key challenges included limited religious institutions and financial constraints, which were addressed through collaborations with local da’wah groups and philanthropic organizations. This study provides insight into effective grassroots approaches to enhance youth religiosity in remote Muslim communities.

Abstract

Thematic Community Service Program (KKN Tematik) has measurable performance targets and a clear thematic focus, enabling students to make tangible contributions to community life, particularly in religious and social sectors. Activities include religious education, the development of majelis ta’lim (Islamic study groups), Islamic festivals, MSME mentoring, as well as health education and digital literacy. Through a participatory approach, students can act as catalysts for change, strengthen Islamic values, and raise community awareness of local issues. However, the limited duration of the program makes social adaptation faster and more challenging, thus requiring more systematic and intensive program planning. Community service activities using the ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development) method yield several important conclusions. Despite the short duration of the KKN, activities tend to be more compact and impactful. Overall, the community and village government where the KKN is held are receptive to the activities. Communities often need assistance and guidance in managing religious activities in rural areas. Students also demonstrate significant potential to integrate easily with the community, particularly through this point of contribution

Abstract

The Qur'an, as Allah's final revelation, serves as the primary source of guidance for Muslims, necessitating proper recitation and understanding for authentic spiritual connection. This study examines the implementation of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in enhancing Qur'anic literacy through tahsin learning at Gampong Meunasah, Bireuen, Aceh. The research addresses the critical challenge of inadequate Qur'anic reading proficiency in rural Muslim communities, where 68% of residents demonstrated below-standard tajwid comprehension and 74% lacked consistent access to structured religious education. Employing Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) methodology, this study engaged 127 participants across three age groups in a comprehensive 45-day program integrating tahsin, tahfidz, tadabbur, and basic Arabic instruction. The ABCD framework identified and mobilized local assets including the Komunitas Muslimah Wahda Al-Islamiyah, existing religious infrastructure, and intergenerational knowledge transfer mechanisms. Quantitative findings revealed significant improvements: tajwid accuracy increased from 42.3% to 87.6% (p<0.001), Qur'anic memorization capacity expanded by 73%, and comprehension scores improved from M=3.2 to M=4.8 (SD=0.67). Qualitative analysis demonstrated transformative impacts on spiritual identity, social cohesion, and community learning culture. The integration of Maqasid Shariah principles manifested through achievements in hifz ad-din (preservation of religion) via enhanced scriptural access, hifz al-'aql (preservation of intellect) through cognitive development, and hifz al-ijtima'i (preservation of social bonds) via strengthened ukhuwah Islamiyah. The program's sustainability was ensured through local facilitator training, module development, and institutional partnerships. This research contributes an innovative model for community-driven Islamic education that balances authenticity with accessibility, tradition with transformation, demonstrating how rural communities can leverage existing assets to create sustainable religious learning ecosystems.

Abstract

The high rates of illiteracy, both in Latin script and in the Arabic script of the Qur'an, pose a major challenge to strengthening religious literacy within minority Muslim communities, particularly in remote areas such as Sioban Village in the Mentawai Islands. This community service project aims to enhance Qur'anic reading skills among illiterate community members through the application of a community-based Service Learning model, utilizing the talaqqi-tahsin approach, contextual learning, and the reinforcement of religious character. The methods employed included intensive training sessions, experience-based repetition, and the active involvement of local leaders and families. The results of the program indicate that approximately 40% of participants were able to independently read basic Qur'anic text, alongside a significant increase in self-confidence and religious participation. These findings suggest that a community- and person-centered approach is effective in addressing religious literacy challenges in marginalized communities. It is hoped that this program can serve as an implementable model for Qur'anic illiteracy eradication initiatives in other remote areas with similar characteristics.
