Abstract

Globalization has brought major changes to the educational landscape and has created both pressures and opportunities for Islamic education in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine how Islamic education responds to the dynamics of globalization through historical and cultural perspectives. Using a qualitative library research method, this article analyzed various national journal publications discussing the challenges, opportunities, and adaptive strategies of Islamic education in the context of global change. The review found that globalization exerts pressure through the flow of secular modernity that may weaken spiritual identity, while simultaneously offering opportunities through technological advancement, global collaboration, and the development of digital learning. Historically, Islamic education in Indonesia, from the pesantren tradition to modern Islamic higher education institutions, has demonstrated strong cultural resilience and an ability to adapt without abandoning core Islamic values. This review highlights the importance of strengthening curriculum integration, teacher professionalism, and digital literacy so that global engagement in Islamic education remains aligned with Islamic ethical values. The study concludes that Islamic education needs to reinforce an integrative paradigm, optimize the use of technology, and maintain moral-spiritual guidance to remain relevant, competitive, and transformative in the global era.

Abstract

Islamic Cultural History (Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam, SKI) textbooks have been widely used as primary learning resources in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah; however, studies that specifically analyze the feasibility level of Grade IV SKI textbooks based on the criteria of the Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP) remain relatively limited. This study aimed to analyze the feasibility of the Grade IV Islamic Cultural History textbook for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in terms of content, presentation, language, and graphics in accordance with BSNP standards. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design through a literature study. Data were obtained through document analysis using an assessment instrument developed based on BSNP textbook feasibility criteria and were analyzed descriptively by assigning scores to each assessment indicator. The results showed that the Grade IV Islamic Cultural History textbook for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah obtained an overall score of 92.10, which falls into the “highly feasible” category, with high achievement in the content, language, presentation, and graphical aspects. These findings contribute to the development of evaluation practices for Islamic education teaching materials and reaffirm the importance of applying national standards in quality assurance for textbooks. The study concludes that the Grade IV SKI textbook for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah is suitable for use as a learning resource and recommends that educators and education policymakers continue to evaluate and develop textbooks in accordance with BSNP standards to improve the quality of learning in madrasahs.

Abstract

Intensive TikTok use among Generation Z often gives rise to fear of missing out (FoMO), namely anxiety experienced when feeling left behind in terms of information or social activities, whereas self-control is regarded as an important factor that can reduce this tendency. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-control and FoMO among Generation Z TikTok users. A quantitative correlational method was employed with 425 participants aged 18–25 years in the Jabodetabek area. Data were collected through online questionnaires using self-control scales and FoMOS, while data analysis used Spearman’s rho because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-control and FoMO (r = –0.674; p < 0.001), indicating that the higher an individual’s self-control, the lower the level of FoMO experienced. These findings highlight the importance of self-regulation in reducing digital anxiety among Generation Z and provide a basis for developing digital literacy education programs and psychological interventions to promote healthier social media use.

Abstract

High levels of TikTok use among university students have the potential to increase fear of missing out (FoMO) and lead to a decline in sleep quality. This study aimed to examine the relationship between FoMO and sleep quality among university students who are active TikTok users. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design, involving 352 students and using the FoMO Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) as measurement instruments. Regression analysis showed that FoMO had a significant effect on sleep quality, with p = 0.000 and a regression coefficient of B = 0.965. In addition, the R² value of 0.802 indicated that 80.2% of the variance in sleep quality disturbances was explained by FoMO. These findings indicate that higher levels of FoMO are associated with poorer sleep quality among students, as reflected in increased sleep disturbances, delayed sleep onset, and feelings of non-restorative sleep upon waking. The study underscores the importance of managing social media use, particularly TikTok, to maintain healthy sleep among university students.

Abstract

The rapid growth of tourism in Bali over the past decade has generated increasingly significant physical, social, and ecological pressures, as reflected in the surge of international tourist arrivals reaching 6.3 million in 2024 with a projected 6.5 million in 2025. This phenomenon aligns with the concept of overtourism, whereby tourist numbers exceed the destination’s carrying capacity, as evidenced by waste generation of approximately 3,436 tons per day and a vehicle population of 5.2 million units that surpasses the capacity of regional infrastructure. This study aimed to analyze community responses to these dynamics and to evaluate the effectiveness of government regulations by applying the Doxey Irritation Index framework to communities in Bali. A descriptive qualitative method was employed using literature-based analysis and in-depth interviews. The findings show that at the euphoria stage, the community continues to welcome tourists positively due to the creation of numerous local employment opportunities and increased economic activity. At the apathy stage, the community begins to perceive environmental pressures and recognizes weaknesses in regulations addressing these pressures. Entering the annoyance stage, the intensity of tourist flows becomes more burdensome, and people start to lose private space as a consequence of policies that redistribute tourists to specific areas. At the antagonism stage, tourists are perceived as the primary source of environmental problems, while the government is viewed as having lost legitimacy in tourism governance. These findings indicate that weak policy integration, limited enforcement, and uncontrolled tourism growth are driving Bali’s shift from euphoria toward antagonism, thereby underscoring the need to reformulate tourism policies that are more responsive to social dynamics and regional carrying capacity in order to safeguard the sustainability of tourism in Bali.

Abstract

Although moderate Islamic education is often positioned merely as theoretical curriculum content in the classroom, practice in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) shows that religious moderation is in fact formed through everyday experiences that unfold over a full 24 hours. This study aimed to reveal how pesantren culture is transformed into a multicultural ecosystem that effectively instills the values of moderation in practical terms. The research employed a library study method by reviewing literature related to pesantren, religious moderation, and multicultural education. The findings indicate three main points. First, pesantren build an inclusive ecosystem through the management of student heterogeneity and cultural acculturation processes that enable continuous encounters across diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Second, the internalization of moderation values is carried out through daily traditions such as sorogan and roan, which cultivate discipline, responsibility, and social empathy through consistent habituation. Third, the Filosofi Ikan di Air Asin (Fish in Salty Water Philosophy) serves as an ethical framework that guides students to remain adaptive in a plural society without losing the integrity of their creed. The study concludes that strengthening pesantren culture is an effective preventive strategy to counter radicalism while simultaneously reinforcing social cohesion at the national level through the formation of a moderate habitus within Islamic educational environments.

Abstract

Although digital dakwah (Islamic preaching) via social media has been widely studied, research that specifically examines preferences in selecting social media platforms as dakwah strategies within Middle Eastern alumni organizations remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the use of social media as a preferred dakwah medium and to identify the reasons underlying platform selection by the Organisasi Persatuan Keluarga Alumni Timur Tengah Mandailing Natal (POKATT). A qualitative approach with a descriptive design was employed, involving six key informants purposively selected from the organization’s leadership. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed descriptively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured by source triangulation. The findings show that WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook are actively and synergistically utilized as digital dakwah channels: WhatsApp is used for internal discussions and distribution of study materials, Instagram for presenting visually engaging and educational content targeting young audiences, and Facebook for publishing more in-depth dakwah content and live broadcasts. Preferences for these platforms are based on considerations of effectiveness, ease of access, broad reach, low cost, and their capacity to convey dakwah messages creatively and interactively. These findings reinforce the relevance of Uses and Gratifications Theory, whereby both audiences and preachers play an active role in selecting media that align with their dakwah needs. The study concludes that digital literacy and contextual dakwah communication strategies are crucial to maintaining the authenticity of Islamic messages in the digital era and recommends that dakwah organizations optimize the planned and responsible use of social media.

Abstract

Traditional games as a form of local wisdom in Indonesia are threatened with extinction due to the dominance of modern technology-based games and changing lifestyles in urban communities. This situation has encouraged the emergence of cultural agency communities that seek to prevent the disappearance of traditional games, including in major cities such as Surabaya through the Komunitas Kampoeng Dolanan. This study aimed to analyze the role of Komunitas Kampoeng Dolanan Surabaya as a cultural agency for the preservation of traditional games and simultaneously as an actor in cultural commodification within urban society. The research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach through field observations and in-depth interviews with the founder and other parties involved in the community. Data were analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu’s perspective, particularly the concepts of habitus, cultural capital, and field, as well as the concept of cultural commodification. The findings show that commodification practices in Kampoeng Dolanan originated from the founder’s personal habitus, which then developed into the community’s collective habitus and encouraged the formation of a cultural field that enables the production, distribution, and consumption of traditional games with economic value. The community has developed various creative divisions that manage the production of game equipment, educational activities, and culture-based services as sources of economic and social capital as well as a means of cultural preservation. The study concludes that cultural preservation and commodification are not always contradictory, but can instead operate simultaneously as a strategy for the sustainability of cultural communities. The implications of this research affirm that culture-based communities hold strategic potential for safeguarding local cultural heritage while empowering the community’s economy, provided they are managed reflectively and ethically.

Abstract

Although memorizing the Qur’an (tahfidz) is believed to contribute to cognitive abilities, emotion regulation, and spiritual intelligence, which are theoretically related to academic achievement, empirical evidence directly examining the relationship between tahfidz and academic performance among medical students remains mixed. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the amount of memorization and the intensity of muraja’ah and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of hafidz and hafidzah students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muslim Indonesia. A quantitative descriptive–analytic approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 81 hafidz/hafidzah students from the 2021–2023 cohorts selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and official academic records, then analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test due to the non-normal distribution of the data. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a high CGPA (≥ 3.50), but there was no significant relationship between the amount of memorization and CGPA (p = 0.616) nor between the intensity of muraja’ah and CGPA (p = 0.083). These findings indicate that the academic achievement of hafidz/hafidzah medical students is not solely determined by the quantity of memorization and the frequency of muraja’ah, but is also influenced by other factors such as self-regulation, learning motivation, and time management. This study enriches the discourse on spirituality and academic achievement in medical education and recommends further research using qualitative and longitudinal approaches to explore the psychosocial mechanisms underlying this relationship.
