Abstract

This study analyzed the marketing strategies of Islamic universities in North Sumatra in strengthening institutional competitiveness through a quantitative approach using structural equation modeling (SEM). A total of 125 respondents participated, and the findings revealed that brand image (0.401), value-based marketing strategy (0.321), and service quality (0.276) significantly contributed to university competitiveness. Mediation analysis further showed that student transformative experience provided a strategic pathway, with notable contributions from brand image (0.356), marketing strategy (0.287), and service quality (0.242). These results underscore that creating meaningful student experiences serves as a critical driver in enhancing the competitive positioning of higher education institutions. The novelty of this study lies in developing a conceptual framework that explicitly integrates marketing strategies with the Islamic spiritual context, thereby challenging the traditional paradigm that views higher education marketing solely from a transactional or utilitarian perspective. By embedding spiritual and value-based principles into branding and service quality, the framework highlights how Islamic universities can differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive global academic landscape. Practically, the study provides a strategic blueprint for university management, encompassing value-based branding, innovative communication, enhanced service quality, and the cultivation of transformative student experiences. Beyond producing intellectually capable graduates, the findings stress the importance of nurturing individuals who are spiritually grounded and adaptable to global change. This integrative approach positions Islamic universities not only as centers of academic excellence but also as institutions of character formation and moral leadership in society.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Batak culture-based domino card learning media to enhance students’ interest and academic achievement in three challenging mathematics topics: trigonometry, integer operations, and logarithms. The research explores how local cultural values, specifically the Batak kinship philosophy Dalihan Na Tolu, can be meaningfully integrated into mathematics instruction. Employing a design-based research (DBR) approach, the study was conducted in seven schools across North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The development process encompassed media design, expert validation, classroom implementation, and iterative refinement. Instruments utilized included teacher interviews, classroom observations, student questionnaires, and achievement tests. The findings indicate that integrating Dalihan Na Tolu values into game- based learning media provides culturally resonant analogies that enhance students’ understanding of abstract mathematical concepts. In trigonometry, visual and cultural representations helped students distinguish among triangle elements and apply ratio concepts in problem-solving. In the context of integer operations, the domino gameplay facilitated students’ comprehension of signed numbers through contextual scenarios such as altitude and temperature changes. For logarithms, visual simulations and matching exercises supported students in grasping the inverse relationship between exponents and logarithmic expressions. The application of culturally contextualized game-based media not only improved students’ comprehension across all three mathematical topics but also significantly increased their engagement and interest in learning. These findings suggest that incorporating local cultural values into instructional tools can offer an innovative and effective model for advancing mathematics education, particularly in culturally diverse contexts.

Abstract

The integration of 21st-century learning and generic science skills (GSS) is critical in developing students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), especially in chemistry education. This quasi-experimental study aimed to analyze the effects of implementing four GSS-integrated digital learning models (PjBL-GSS, PBL-GSS, IBL-GSS, and DL-GSS) and students’ initial abilities on their HOTS performance. A total of 397 students participated, grouped by initial ability levels and assigned to different learning models. Data were collected using validated instruments including scholastic tests and HOTS assessments, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA. The results showed significant effects of both initial abilities and learning models on HOTS, with IBL-GSS being the most effective, especially for high-ability students. Moreover, significant interactions were found between initial ability and the type of model used. The study suggests that selecting appropriate digital learning models based on students' prior knowledge is essential to foster optimal HOTS outcomes. Teachers are encouraged to align instructional design with both GSS indicators and students’ learning readiness.

Abstract

Critical thinking (CT) is the core of the chemical education curriculum, yet it is generally in an inconsequential understanding and practice with second-level teachers. The research is a review of the previous studies of the integration of CT in teaching secondary chemistry. The research aims to find out how CT is conceptualised, taught and assessed by chemistry teachers and its consistency behind these practices. The systematic review was performed through the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. In total, 23 empirical studies of the period 2021-2025 were identified through using Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC and ScienceDirect. Important findings were extracted by thematic analysis. The Majority of teachers have an infusion style, which inserts CT into chemistry lessons based on inquiry, project-based learning, and socioscientific issues. The CT training and corresponding evaluation is scarce. Feedback and scaffolding are applied irregularly, though they are good. The beliefs of the teachers regarding the importance of CT, as well as its reality in the classroom, have a very distinct gap. Practices of assessment usually fail to respond to CT objectives. Future studies are required to come up with chemistry-specific models of CT and assessment instruments. Effective integration should be backed by professional development.

Abstract

This study investigates the phenomenon of politeness violations in digital live streaming interactions, focusing on gaming content on YouTube a platform increasingly characterized by the prevalence of “toxic” language, including harsh, derogatory, and provocative expressions. Such discourse poses a growing challenge to communication ethics and character education in the technological era. The research aims to analyze specific types of politeness principle violations and their implications for character formation and digital communication practices. Adopting a qualitative approach through observation, documentation, and interviews, the study found that violations most frequently targeted the principles of tact and generosity. Notably, these utterances were not merely spontaneous outbursts but deliberate strategies of performative impoliteness, designed to construct a particular self-image and amplified by platform algorithms seeking engagement. The novelty of this research lies in its integration of linguistic analysis, digital ethics, and character education within the context of real-time live streaming—a convergence rarely explored in prior studies. This interdisciplinary approach provides unique insights into how algorithm-driven platforms can normalize verbal aggression, influencing audience psychology and diminishing empathy values, particularly among student viewers. The findings highlight the urgent need to expand digital literacy education to encompass the ethical dimensions of communication, not just technical proficiency. The study recommends incorporating polite language awareness and ICT ethics into curricula to foster respectful, constructive interaction in online spaces.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the implementation of the Think, Observe, Talk, and Write (TOTW) learning model on students' creative thinking skills on buffer solution material. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design, involving two sample classes, namely the experimental class and the control class at Senior High School Islam Al-Falah, Jambi. The research instruments include essay tests and observation sheets covering aspects of sensitivity, fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Data were analyzed using statistical tests to test the hypothesis. The results showed that the implementation of the TOTW model significantly improved students' creative thinking skills, with the average posttest of the experimental class being higher than the control class. In addition, the observation results indicated an increase in creative thinking skills in the experimental class in all aspects assessed. Statistical tests showed a significant effect of the implementation of the TOTW model on students' creative thinking skills. This study concludes that the TOTW model is effective in improving students' creative thinking skills, especially on materials that require conceptual understanding such as buffer solutions. The implications of this study include recommendations for the implementation of innovative learning models in various learning contexts to support the development of students' high-level thinking skills.

Abstract

Batik, as a cultural artifact, holds deep symbolic and emotional significance; however, declining consumption rates suggest a shift in consumer priorities. This study aims to analyze the mediating role of pride-based emotions both self-focused and object-focused in the relationship between cultural values and Batik purchase decisions in Surabaya, East Java. Adopting a causal quantitative design, data were collected from 207 Batik consumers through a structured survey and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results show that while cultural values significantly influence both types of pride emotions, they do not directly affect purchase decisions. In contrast, self-focused and object-focused emotions have a positive and significant impact on purchase behavior and fully mediate the effect of cultural values on Batik buying decisions. These findings suggest that emotions rather than cultural values alone serve as the primary psychological mechanism connecting cultural identity to heritage product consumption. Theoretically, this research highlights the importance of integrating affective variables into cultural consumption models. Practically, Batik producers and marketers are encouraged to develop pride-based emotional branding strategies to enhance consumer engagement. This study introduces the concept of a dual affective pathway, where personal identity and social resonance jointly drive cultural consumption, offering a novel contribution to the cross-cultural consumer behavior literature.

Abstract

This research aims to present a systematic literature review addressing the development of supply management, operations, and marketing strategies which can sustain the success of the sustainability implementation for MSMEs. Several papers is collected from the scholarly journals published in the last five years. The findings indicate that digital entrepreneurship assistance, which can help develop digital skills and create more sustainable business flows, plays a significant role for MSMEs to sustain their business sustainability. A sustainable marketing strategy can help MSMEs increase market access, especially using digital strategies, making it easier for MSMEs to reach a wider market. Our systematic literature review has a limitation. The discovery of the sustainability practice on MSMEs only focuses on three aspects including supply management, operations, and marketing strategy. To complement the limitation of the current study, future research lies on the comparative analysis of sustainability practice on MSMEs and larger enterprises by considering other essential aspects including finance, human resources, and competitiveness. Operational management for MSMEs, especially MSMEs in the food sector, is also key in maintaining business operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study discuss, further using the Systematic Literature Review method to highlight Supply management, operations and marketing strategies for the sustainability of MSMEs so that they become a reference for business actors in developing their businesses and also for new business actors, of course, especially for policymakers in empowering and MSME development.

Abstract

The low levels of decision-making skills (DMS) and design thinking skills (DTS) among Industrial Design Engineering students in Bali hinder their readiness to meet industry demands. This problem is compounded by students’ low self-efficacy in making career decisions and their limited exposure to authentic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary training. This study aims to address these gaps by implementing and evaluating a transformative multicultural education model as an innovative strategy to enhance DMS and DTS. Employing an experimental research design, the study involved 64 vocational schools (SMK) across Bali, selected to represent diverse cultural and socio-economic contexts. Data were collected through validated structured questionnaires measuring DMS and DTS, followed by quantitative analysis using descriptive statistics and MANOVA. The findings reveal that the transformative multicultural learning model produced a statistically significant improvement in both skill domains, fostering not only technical creativity but also culturally responsive decision-making. The novelty of this research lies in its integration of multicultural perspectives directly into the design thinking framework—positioning cultural diversity as an active driver of creative problem-solving rather than a passive background element. Furthermore, the approach embeds real-world project simulations grounded in local cultural values, bridging the gap between academic preparation and industry expectations. This combination of cultural adaptation, critical thinking, and collaborative design creates a robust foundation for inclusive, future-ready learning environments. The results suggest that transformative multicultural education can serve as a scalable, culturally relevant model for preparing students to navigate complex, globalized work environments while retaining local identity.
