Abstract

This study explores the implementation of character education at SD Muhammadiyah Pulokadang for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Using a qualitative case study design, this analysis examines how character education is planned, organized, implemented, and evaluated within an inclusive elementary school setting. Data were gathered through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with school leaders and teachers, and analysis of school documents. Thematic analysis revealed that the school incorporates 18-character values, adapted to the local context, into all learning modules and daily routines. Character education is carried out through modelling, habituation, and reinforcement, supported by a dual-homeroom teacher model and differentiated instruction across regular, intensive, and transitional classes. Regular evaluations, aligned with continuous improvement principles, help monitor students’ character development and inform program refinement. The findings highlight how inclusive management strategies and adaptation to local contexts can effectively support character education for SEN students. This framework offers practical insights that may be replicated or adapted by other inclusive schools aiming to strengthen character education.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of dayah accreditation bodies in Aceh as instruments for improving the quality of Islamic religious education. The study employs a library research approach with content analysis of scholarly articles, research reports, local regulations such as the Qanun Dayah, and other supporting documents. The findings reveal that the accreditation process has significantly improved dayah management, including the implementation of more systematic documentation, data digitalization, and increased transparency and accountability. Accreditation has also strengthened teachers’ professional competencies through training and fostered a culture of continuous evaluation. However, challenges remain, such as limited human resources, internal resistance to change, administrative burdens, and potential biases that emphasize document completeness over substantive educational quality. Public and stakeholder perceptions of the performance of dayah accreditation bodies are generally positive, as accreditation is viewed as enhancing public trust and the reputation of dayah institutions. Nevertheless, criticisms arise concerning insufficient public dissemination, limited transparency of accreditation results, and concerns that uniform national standards might diminish local cultural identity. The study concludes that dayah accreditation should not be merely an administrative formality but can serve as a transformative strategy for educational quality improvement, if supported by substantive evaluations, harmonization of national standards with local values through the Qanun Dayah, education-based public communication, and active engagement of strategic stakeholders.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of compassion-based corrective discipline as an educational strategy to address student disciplinary issues at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Puteri Jaya, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia. This qualitative research employed a phenomenological approach, with participants comprising guidance and counseling (BK) teachers and students with disciplinary records. Purposive sampling was used to select participants based on specific criteria. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data condensation, data display, and conclusion-drawing techniques. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources, methods, and time. The findings reveal that the corrective measures applied were not conventional punishments, but rather educational projects such as flower planting, fish farming, and art activities. These projects were tailored to students’ interests and character traits, effectively fostering a sense of responsibility, patience, self-regulation, and gradually, sustainably improving discipline. The compassion-based corrective approach has proven to be effective in shaping student character through a humanistic and reflective process, rather than through fear-based or punitive methods.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the process of internalizing religious character values among children aged 7–12 years through regular Islamic learning activities held every Saturday and Sunday evening in Labuan Toposo Village. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through eight weeks of participant observation, in-depth interviews with one main teacher-facilitator and 12 child participants, as well as visual documentation of the activities. The findings reveal that these activities effectively instill essential values, including patience, sincerity, responsibility, empathy, cooperation, gratitude, and piety. The teacher-facilitator implemented various reflective and adaptive strategies, including role modeling, value-based discussions, positive reinforcement, age-appropriate methods, and creative activities such as assembling puzzles and crafting miniature Ka'bah models. These strategies help children not only understand values cognitively but also internalize and apply them in their daily lives. In addition to observed behavioral changes during the sessions, children began to show positive initiatives at home, such as praying diligently, helping parents, and reminding siblings or friends to do good deeds. The study also identified challenges, including limited learning resources, irregular attendance, and the burden of having only one facilitator, which were addressed through participatory and contextual approaches. These findings highlight the importance of interactive, reflective, and contextually grounded community-based Islamic learning as an effective strategy for character education, particularly in rural settings.

Abstract

Modern education faces a multidimensional crisis, marked by the reduction of its meaning to mere knowledge transfer and a decline in students’ moral values. Contemporary pedagogical approaches tend to emphasize cognitive aspects while neglecting the ethical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions essential to humanizing education. This study aims to examine and compare the teacher-student relational concepts of Carl Rogers and KH. Hasyim Asy’ari, to offer an integrative alternative approach: the humanistic-transcendental model. Employing a qualitative method through library research, this study analyzes two primary sources—Freedom to Learn by Carl Rogers and Adab al-‘Alim wa al-Muta‘allim by KH. Hasyim Asy’ari—alongside relevant secondary literature, using content and comparative analysis. The findings reveal that Rogers emphasizes learning freedom, empathy, and dialogical relationships through the principles of unconditional positive regard and congruence. Meanwhile, Hasyim Asy’ari highlights adab (ethical conduct), exemplary character, and deep spiritual relationships. Both agree that the teacher-student relationship must be ethical, relational, and transformative. The implications of this study reinforce the urgency of integrating humanistic and spiritual values into Indonesian educational praxis, particularly in the context of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study examines how SMP Darussalam Medan strategically manages extracurricular programs through planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation, analyzing them using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected via interviews with key stakeholders, direct observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that extracurricular management systematically addresses students’ needs—from physiological and social needs to esteem and self-actualization—by offering diverse activities, collaborative planning, and reward strategies, including tuition waivers. Unlike much previous research that focuses mainly on program outcomes, this study shows how each management stage is intentionally aligned with students’ motivational needs, helping sustain engagement and talent development over time. Key supporting factors include collaboration among teachers and coaches, parental involvement, and adequate facilities. At the same time, challenges remain in the form of budget constraints and declining participation toward the end of the semester. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the practical integration of Maslow’s theory in a secondary school context and recommends strengthening reward programs and building external partnerships to further enrich student experiences and maintain motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the factors influencing students’ voluntary participation in utilizing guidance and counseling (BK) services at SMA Swasta Sinar Husni Labuhan Deli. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with students and BK teachers, as well as document analysis, and were analyzed using qualitative techniques. The findings show that the BK teacher’s warm, empathetic, open, and non-judgmental personality is the main factor encouraging students’ voluntary participation. An interpersonal approach based on emotional closeness—including the use of the affectionate term “bunda,” which reflects local Malay culture—helps build students’ sense of safety and trust. Spiritual-based educational strategies, such as assigning students to recite short surahs or perform dhuha prayers, also contribute to transforming the image of BK services from a disciplinary space into a space for personal development and growth. These findings highlight that the BK teacher’s personality and an egalitarian relational approach play a vital role in creating a supportive, inclusive, and humanistic atmosphere, thereby enhancing students’ voluntary participation in BK services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of principal leadership and organizational culture on teacher performance at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) in Medan City. An associative quantitative approach was applied, involving a sample of 184 teachers selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale, developed based on theoretical indicators of each variable. Before analysis, validity tests, reliability tests, and classical assumption tests were conducted to ensure the quality of the data. The results of multiple linear regression analysis revealed that principal leadership (beta coefficient = 0.491; p < 0.05) and organizational culture (beta coefficient = 0.204; p < 0.05) each had a significant partial effect on teacher performance. Simultaneously, both variables also showed a significant combined effect (F value = 26.290; p < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.324. This means the model explains 32.4% of the variation in teacher performance, while the remaining 67.6% is influenced by other factors such as personal motivation, academic qualifications, and availability of learning facilities. These findings highlight the vital role of principal leadership as the main driver, as well as the contribution of organizational culture in creating a collaborative work climate that supports teacher performance. It is hoped that this research can serve as a reference for policy development aimed at improving educational quality, especially in state madrasahs located in large cities like Medan.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning medium based on Augmented Reality Bangun Ruang (ARBA) and to examine its effectiveness in enhancing the mathematical literacy of elementary school students. The research is grounded in the low level of students’ mathematical literacy and the need for innovative, interactive learning media that align with the characteristics of digital-native learners. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), involving 18 fifth-grade students from a public elementary school in Jakarta, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection instruments included expert validation, practicality questionnaires, and pretest-posttest assessments. The media expert validation showed a feasibility score of 91.66%, while the subject matter expert validation scored 87.50%, both classified as highly feasible. The practicality test also indicated that students very well received the ARBA media. Data analysis using paired t-tests and Normalized Gain (N-Gain) revealed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, with an N-Gain score of 0,9032 (high category) and a gain percentage of 90,3176% (highly effective category). These results demonstrate that the ARBA media is effective in improving students’ understanding of geometric solids and their mathematical literacy skills. The 3D visualizations and interactivity offered by ARBA help reduce the abstractness of the material while increasing student engagement and interest in learning. Therefore, ARBA can be recommended as an innovative solution for literacy-oriented mathematics instruction, especially for geometry topics at the elementary school level.
