Abstract

This article reports on a community service program aimed at enhancing English teachers' creativity and digital literacy through the integration of digital storytelling. Conducted in collaboration with MGMP Sidoarjo, the program involved 51 senior high school English teachers who participated in a hands-on workshop using Canva to create digital storytelling materials aligned with their instructional goals. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining observation, surveys, and qualitative feedback to evaluate teacher engagement, product quality, and classroom implementation. Findings indicate a notable improvement in teachers' confidence and competence in utilizing digital tools, with all participants successfully producing at least one digital storytelling product. Although time constraints limited full implementation in some classrooms, student responses were overwhelmingly positive, citing increased motivation and engagement due to the visually rich content. Teachers also reflected positively on the training's impact, highlighting its practical value in modernizing English language instruction. The program underscores the importance of supporting teacher development through creative and technology-enhanced pedagogical strategies. It is recommended that schools foster a culture of innovation and that MGMP sustain the momentum through long-term mentoring and experimentation with varied digital learning media in response to evolving educational demands.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Endris Foundation as a community-based social institution in assisting underprivileged communities in Gerung District, West Lombok Regency. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving 10 informants, including organizational staff and aid recipients. The findings show that Endris Foundation provides two main types of assistance: material support, such as wheelchairs and food packages, and service-based support through medical accompaniment. The wheelchair aid improved mobility for 10 elderly and disabled recipients, while the medical assistance facilitated access to healthcare services for five families. In addition, food distribution helped reduce household economic burdens. Key challenges included family resistance to medical intervention, lack of transparency regarding beneficiary conditions, and communication gaps with village authorities over activity documentation. This study recommends implementing health education for beneficiary families and establishing formal coordination between the foundation and local government to strengthen collaborative efforts. The findings reinforce the vital role of community-based social institutions in addressing disparities in access to basic public services, particularly in areas with limited infrastructure.

Abstract

Pos Pelayanan Terpadu (Posyandu) is a form of Upaya Kesehatan Bersumberdaya Masyarakat (UKBM) managed by and for the community to facilitate access to basic health services. Desa Curug Sangereng, located in Kecamatan Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, Banten, has nine posyandu that serve and monitor the health of 14,311 residents. This activity is supported by posyandu members who act as health promoters and educators to encourage a clean and healthy lifestyle while recording residents' health data. In addition to on-site recording at the posyandu, members also conduct home visits for residents who are absent during service hours or undergoing outpatient care. Up to the present, the process of recording community health data has still been carried out manually using notebooks and simple forms. This practice often poses challenges, such as difficulties in data recapitulation and analysis, as well as limited access when data are required for reporting to Puskesmas. To address these challenges, an e-Posyandu application was developed as a web-based and mobile platform integrated with the village’s main website (curugsangereng.id). The application was developed using the waterfall method and equipped with features such as data input, health record history, and data export in multiple file formats. Following the development and deployment stages, socialization and training sessions were conducted to introduce the application to Posyandu members. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) was carried out with 35 members of Curug Sangereng Village through a questionnaire. The results showed that 94.3% of members on the website version and 88.6% on the mobile version could easily use the application. These findings indicate that the majority of posyandu members are able to utilize e-Posyandu effectively in supporting the process of health data recording and monitoring, although a small proportion still requires further assistance, particularly in using the mobile version.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major health problem in Sanggrahan Village, with 11 children under five recorded as stunted and an adolescent anemia prevalence of 57%. The village has strong potential resources, including 95 active health cadres, home gardens that can be utilized for family medicinal plants (TOGA) cultivation, and local institutions such as the Women Farmers’ Group (KWT) and the Village Health Post (PKD). The aim of this community service program (PKM) is to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of health cadres and the community; develop natural resources such as home gardens and unused land; implement community midwifery service strategies; create a golden generation; improve the community’s economy; and encourage the use of website-based technology. The program was carried out using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, which applies persuasive, educative, participatory, and normative approaches. The implementation included several stages: socialization, training, mentoring, technology application, and sustainability. The results showed significant improvements in the capacity of health cadres, KWT, and the community in managing TOGA and producing innovative herbal-based products such as ginger powder, moringa nuggets, and healthy moringa-based snacks. Village institutions were also strengthened through the establishment of a Nutrition Post (Pondok Gizi), while PKD played an important role in nutrition education, early detection of stunting, and the use of educational tools. In addition, the UMKM Expo proved effective in expanding promotion and marketing of local products. This community-based intervention generated a dual impact: improving community health status through stunting prevention while simultaneously fostering economic independence. As a follow-up, continuous mentoring, product diversification, quality standardization, and strengthening of marketing networks are recommended to optimize and enhance program competitiveness. The synergy between KWT and PKD may serve as a sustainable empowerment model based on local potential and village wisdom.

Abstract

Domestic wastewater in Islamic boarding schools is commonly managed using simple holding ponds without standardized treatment, resulting in high turbidity, elevated suspended solids, ammonia accumulation, and low dissolved oxygen levels. These conditions negatively affect environmental quality, sanitation, and the health of the community. Pesantren Zaadul Ma’ad experienced similar problems, with initial wastewater characteristics showing low dissolved oxygen (3.85 mg/L), turbidity of 49.3 NTU, total suspended solids (TSS) of approximately 50 mg/L, and ammonia concentrations around 30 mg/L. This community engagement program aimed to apply Jet Bubble Column (JBC) technology to improve wastewater quality and to strengthen the capacity of students and teachers in managing simple wastewater treatment systems. The program was carried out using a structured Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, consisting of socialization, operational training, installation of the JBC unit, operational mentoring, periodic monitoring, and sustainability planning. The JBC system was installed in the wastewater holding pond and integrated with a multilayer filtration unit. Water quality monitoring was conducted using portable instruments to measure pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, total suspended solids (TSS), and ammonia (NH₃). The implementation of JBC technology resulted in significant improvements in wastewater quality. DO levels increased to above 5 mg/L, ammonia concentrations decreased by 80–90%, TSS levels were reduced by more than 50%, and turbidity dropped to below 1 NTU. These improvements indicate a transition from anaerobic to stable aerobic conditions, highlighting the effectiveness of microbubble aeration combined with multilayer filtration in treating domestic wastewater. Beyond the technical results, the program strengthened local management capacity through the training of internal operators, the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the integration of sanitation topics into educational activities. Recommended follow-up actions include optimizing the JBC design for greater efficiency, expanding the use of treated water for non-consumptive purposes, and replicating the model in other boarding schools as part of a broader effort to support decentralized and sustainable wastewater management systems.

Abstract

Brayan Grubi, a small and medium enterprise (SME), located in Jetis, Menoreh Village, Salaman, Magelang Regency. It processes approximately 150 kg of sweet potatoes daily to make traditional food grubi. The grubi production process, from washing to packaging, is still done manually, known as "gejrug." This manual washing process is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and unhygienic. The purpose of this community partnership program is to design and manufacture a sweet potato washing machine so that the washing process of sweet potatoes as a raw material for making grubi becomes more efficient and hygienic. The process becomes more efficient because the washing process takes less time and is more hygienic because the washing process is carried out using the help of a machine. This activity is carried out in four stages. The first stage is data collection as a basis for machine design and is continued in coordination with partners. The second stage is the construction and testing of the sweet potato washing machine. The third stage is the implementation of the sweet potato washing machine. The last stage is evaluation of machine implementation by the team. The efficiency of the sweet potato washing process is measured by calculating the washing time of 150 kg of sweet potatoes. The implementation of the sweet potato washing machine increases the washing process efficiency from 20 minutes to 5 minutes per 15 kg of sweet potatoes. The interview results show that the activity increases partners' understanding from 20% to 100%, about the more hygienic washing process of the sweet potato washing machine.

Abstract

The double burden of nutritional problems among schoolchildren in Indonesia—relected by soaring rates of stunting and obesity—poses new challenges to efforts aimed at improving community nutrition. In Parepare City, South Sulawesi, a clear nutrition transition is observed, with rising cases of obesity in the school environment. This community service activity was designed and implemented a school‐based empowerment program called “Sahabat Gizi” (Nutrition Friends) peer educators, aiming to strengthen obesity prevention through balanced nutrition education, environmental adjustments, and reinforcement of school policies. The program was carried out in three phases: preparation, training, and evaluation, involving teacher mentors and students who acted as agents of change. Pre‐ and post‐test results indicated signiicant improvements in participant knowledge and communication skills, while their attitudes remained relatively stable. The training effectively increased participants’ knowledge (87.5%) and communication skills (43.8%), while over 90% showed stable attitudes with no signiicant changes. Independent initiatives undertaken by peer educators reinforced understanding and honed nutrition communication skills effectively while fostering positive healthy behavior norms. Program indings suggest that the peer educator model applied in schools successfully increased students’ knowledge of balanced nutrition and contributed to obesity prevention. However, to ensure sustainability and strengthen positive attitudes, more intensive policy support is needed.
