Abstract

This community service program aimed to promote social inclusion within the blue economy framework by empowering coastal women in Banggae Timur, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi. Traditionally, local marine products were limited to simple processing methods such as frying or grilling, yielding low added value. Through participatory training and mentoring with the Siamasei women’s group, participants were introduced to marine product diversification, particularly the development of flying fish (Hirundichthys oxycephalus) chili paste, a local specialty. The program employed counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Findings indicate significant improvements in participants’ skills, knowledge, and entrepreneurial motivation. This initiative highlights the potential of women’s empowerment in enhancing household income, diversifying marine-based products, and strengthening their role in sustainable local economic development

Abstract

SMK KAL 2 Surabaya is a maritime-based vocational high school that prepares skilled human resources in the shipping sector. Graduates of SMK KAL 2 are directed to work on commercial ships, especially those that operate lift aircraft as part of loading and unloading activities, but the level of students' understanding of K3 procedures, especially in the context of shipping and the operation of lift aircraft, is still low. The purpose of this community service is to hold socialization of K3 procedures for the operation of lift aircraft on ships that are expected by graduates of SMK KAL 2 so that students understand and have awareness of the importance of K3 procedures in the operation of lift aircraft on ships, can identify work risks independently, and comply with safety procedures when working on ships, Community service activities in the form of socialization of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) procedures in the operation of lift aircraft at SMK KAL 2 Surabaya have been successfully carried out with a very good level of achievement. The main target of the activity, which is to increase the understanding and awareness of students and shipping teachers on the importance of implementing K3 procedures, was achieved significantly, as evidenced by the results of the pre-test and post-test, which showed an increase in the average score of the participants.

Abstract

Oral health in Indonesia is still a health problem that needs attention. Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), it is reported that the prevalence of oral and dental problems in Indonesia is still very high. The above can be caused by the lack of knowledge and lack of awareness of the Indonesian population towards dental hygiene, to overcome oral health problems in Indonesia Training of Trainers for teachers and parents for 21-day morning and night brushing activities teaches children and adults about the benefits of good oral hygiene and shows them how to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to realize caries-free Indonesia in 2030. This activity is held online through the zoom application. The target participants were elementary school and inclusive school students aged 7-12 years, 10 parents and 10 teachers at SD Al Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. The mechanism of the activity is “Training of Trainer” (TOT) for students and parents, showing that Training of Trainer activities on teachers and parents of SD Al Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya students can increase their knowledge and awareness on oral health.

Abstract

The implementation of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code is a crucial component in improving maritime safety and preventing occupational accidents on ships. However, in practice, there are still cases where the crew's understanding of safety procedures, the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS), and the work safety culture in the ship's operational environment are not yet optimal. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and competence of PT SPIL's ship crew in implementing the ISM Code through practice-based training and participatory discussions. The implementation method used a hands-on training approach, material delivery, safety procedure simulations, evaluation of the Safety Management System (SMS) implementation, and evaluative discussions. The activity was conducted with PT SPIL's ship crew, consisting of officers and ship ratings. The results showed an increase in crew understanding of company safety policies, emergency procedures, reporting non-conformities, the use of safety equipment, and the implementation of a safety culture on board. Furthermore, the practice-based training was proven to improve crew preparedness in dealing with emergencies and support more effective implementation of the ISM Code. This activity positively contributed to improving safety culture and compliance with international maritime safety regulations

Abstract

The degradation of mangrove ecosystems in Indonesia’s coastal areas, particularly along the shores of Kapota Island in Wakatobi, calls for a restoration approach that integrates ecological, social, and educational aspects in a comprehensive manner. This activity is a community service initiative involving mangrove rehabilitation and planting, organized as part of the Kapota Maliga Festival Kabuenga Wa Sinta on Kapota Island, Wakatobi National Park, on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The activity involved a pentahelix collaboration: academics, marine national park managers, community conservation groups, university students, and international school students. The method used was Participatory Action (PA), comprising site assessment, technical training, implementation of structured planting, cross-cultural educational exchange, and support.ng The results of the activity showed that 500 seedlings were planted across an area of 0.12 hectares, with an initial survival rate of 95%. The collaboration successfully established a community-based monitoring mechanism, improved the conservation literacy of international students, and strengthened local capacity in coastal ecosystem management. Key challenges included logistical coordination, hydrometeorological variability, and the need for long-term funding. It was concluded that the pentahelix model within the framework of a cultural festival is effective as a sustainable, participatory, and educational restoration framework. Recommendations include institutionalizing cooperation, integrating the initiative into service-learning curricula, and developing green funding schemes

Abstract

Shipping safety is a fundamental aspect of the maritime industry as regulated by the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). However, various studies have shown that accidents at sea are still dominated by human factors due to a lack of competence and effective safety training. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of the GV Faxaborg crew in the use of Life Saving Appliances (LSA) and their understanding of the Fire Control and Safety Plan. The activity method uses hands-on training with a demonstration and simulation approach. The activity was carried out in September 2024, involving 5 crew members, including the ship's master. The results showed a significant increase in the understanding and operational skills of safety equipment. This activity proves that practice-based training is effective in improving crew preparedness for emergencies at sea
