Abstract

The urgency of this research is to observe the moral decadence among the younger generation. Morality, known as ahlak in Islam, is very important in life because ahlak is above knowledge. One form of ahlak reflection is the actualization of religious moderation. This is crucial considering the multicultural condition in Indonesia. This research aims to understand the actualization of religious moderation among students in Bandung City. The research uses a quantitative approach with a survey research method. Data collection is done using questionnaires distributed to students in several universities in Bandung City. Respondents are asked to fill out surveys related to the actualization of religious moderation which exhibited in their daily lives. Religious moderation is measured in terms of moderation in relationships among fellow Muslims and moderation in interfaith relationships. The research data is analyzed using the SPSS tool. The research findings show that aspects of religious moderation in most indicators of relations with fellow Muslims are in the high to very high category, with some indicators reaching very high values, indicating a strong understanding and application of religious moderation in relations with fellow Muslims among the respondents. The overall average value of these indicators is 3.2, which means it is in the very high category. The average value of aspects of actualization of religious moderation in interfaith relationships is 2.77, showing a high level of religious moderation, especially in terms of mutual respect and participation in social activities together, although support and solidarity still have room for improvement.  Keywords: religious moderation;  students;  interfaith relationships; solidarity

Abstract

Humans are beings endowed with the ability, privilege, and responsibility to explore deeper aspects of life. Their inherent nature to think and question serves as a distinctive trait. To adapt to life, individuals must understand themselves and differentiate between good and evil. This study aims to analyze the concept of the perfect human according to Imam Al-Ghazali and Siddhartha Gautama. A descriptive approach is employed with a library research method, utilizing books and other literature-based sources.Imam Al-Ghazali posits that the essence of humanity is primarily determined by its spiritual elements, which elevate humans above other creatures, including angels. However, neglecting these elements can degrade humans below the level of animals. Al-Ghazali identifies four key spiritual components: al-'aql (intellect), al-qalb (heart), al-nafs (soul), and al-ruh (spirit). Conversely, Siddhartha Gautama emphasizes the mind as the core of human existence, comprising feelings, thoughts, memories, and consciousness. The findings reveal that despite their distinct cultural and philosophical backgrounds, both thinkers underscore the significance of non-material elements as the foundation of human excellence. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the concept of humanity across traditions and highlights its relevance to contemporary discussions on ethics and human development. Keywords: Al-Ghazaly; Perfect Human;  Sidharta Gautama; Spirituality

Abstract

This article examines the urgency of improving service quality within Islamic educational institutions, particularly in response to the growing disparity between rising public expectations and suboptimal service practices. Grounded in the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM), this study aims to integrate service management concepts with Islamic spiritual values derived from the Qur’an and Hadith. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach and thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhu‘i), the article analyzes Qur'anic verses relevant to service ethics and practice. From the provider’s perspective, Surah Al-Hashr [59]: 9 emphasizes sincerity, altruism, and the willingness to prioritize others' needs, as exemplified by the Ansar. From the customer's standpoint, Surah An-Nisa’ [4]: 29 highlights the principle of mutual consent in transactions, while Surah An-Nisa’ [4]: 58 underscores the importance of trustworthiness and justice in equitable service delivery. The Prophetic traditions further reinforce the view of service as a form of worship that promotes ease, assistance, inner peace, and spiritual elevation. The study concludes that integrating Islamic values into service management enhances not only procedural quality but also enriches the moral and ethical dimensions of service. This integration is particularly relevant in advancing both academic and managerial excellence in Islamic educational institutions. Keywords: Service management; Islamic values; Thematic exegesis; Total Quality Management; Service ethics

Abstract

Modern education increasingly requires an approach that prioritizes the holistic development of individuals. Education systems focused on outcomes have often been criticized for neglecting human aspects, such as mental well-being and self-development. Humanism emerges as a response to the need to honor students' dignity, potential, and freedom in their learning. The study aims to examine the application of humanistic principles in the teaching and learning process of Islamic Religious Education at Aisyiyah Boarding School Bandung. Primary data were obtained through interviews and observations with several teachers and students, while secondary data were gathered from the school's website content. The findings indicate that this humanistic approach enables students to: appreciate individuality and the potential of learners, develop emotional intelligence, create a positive learning environment, encourage meaningful learning, foster a critical and creative attitude and support holistic development. Keywords: Humanistic Approach; Education; Freedom to Learn; Humanizing Humans

Abstract

This article examines the transformation of the story of Prophet Khidir from its Qur'anic narrative into Sufi literary expressions known as Serat Suluk in the Indonesian archipelago. The study focuses on the processes of spiritual reinterpretation and cultural recontextualization undertaken by local Sufi scholars in reshaping the character of Khidir to align with the mystical and cultural values of Javanese Islam. Employing historical research methods—including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography—this study utilizes the theory of text transformation as its main analytical framework. The findings reveal that Sufi writers in the Nusantara did not alter the theological substance of Khidir’s story but constructed new narratives featuring localized mystical symbols and figures such as Sunan Kalijaga and Syekh Malaya. These figures function as seekers of divine knowledge and mystical insight under Khidir’s spiritual guidance. Such transformations reflect the adaptability of religious texts to local cultural contexts while preserving their core ethical and theological messages. Keywords: Prophet Khidir; Textual transformation; Sufi suluk; Islam Nusantara; Religious literature

Abstract

Communication theories, characterized by their humanistic and anthropocentric nature, are deemed insufficient in addressing communication needs grounded in transcendental values. Therefore, this study examines prophetic communication as an alternative paradigm in communication science, focusing on its implementation in the Islamic Life Guidance for Muhammadiyah Members (Pedoman Hidup Islami Warga Muhammadiyah/PHIWM). The theoretical framework of this research is based on the concept of prophetic communication, which emphasizes the integration of insaniyah (human) and ilahiyah (divine) dimensions in the communication process. This theory is critically compared with secular and anthropocentric communication approaches. This study employs a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data were collected through in-depth analysis of religious texts (particularly the Qur'an), PHIWM documents, and related literature on prophetic communication and Islamic communication. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify the principles of prophetic communication within PHIWM. The findings reveal that PHIWM adopts prophetic communication principles derived from the Qur'an, encompassing four forms of communication: (1) interpersonal (compassionate and honest), (2) business (just and anti-usury), (3) organizational (collaborative and responsible), and (4) group (dialogic and inclusive). Transcendental values serve as the foundation for all these communication practices. This study recommends developing a PHIWM-based prophetic communication model for broader contexts, including education and media. Further research is needed to explore the impact of prophetic communication on social harmony, as well as comparative studies with communication theories. Keywords: Prophetic Communication; Transcendence; Muhammadiyah; Qur'an
