Abstract

This article examines the intricate relationship between technology and character development in education, focusing on the Indonesian context while drawing comparisons with Sweden. It explores the challenges and opportunities that arise as technology becomes increasingly integrated into educational settings. Employing a qualitative comparative analysis, this study investigates how technological advancements influence educational transformation and its interconnectedness with industrial demands. The findings reveal that while technology has a transformative impact on education, its integration into character development presents unique cultural and value-based challenges. Countries like Indonesia, where traditional, religious, and ethical values play a significant role in shaping education, face different obstacles compared to Sweden, which adopts a highly digitalized and secular approach. Through comparative analysis, the study highlights these contrasting strategies, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that leverages technology while safeguarding cultural identity and moral education. Furthermore, the role of educators is crucial in this transition, requiring them to adapt to digital transformations while fostering students' holistic character development. This research underscores the need for strategic policies and pedagogical frameworks that harmonize technological advancements with the preservation of ethical and cultural values. By offering insights into how different nations navigate these challenges, the study contributes to the broader discourse on global educational trends in the digital era. Keywords: Educational technology; Character Development; Cultural and Ethical Values

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of fashion motivation and religiosity on fashion consumption, with fashion consciousness as a mediating variable. The population of this study consists of female students from the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) at Muhammadiyah University. The sample size is 72 respondents. The data collection instrument used is a questionnaire distributed directly to respondents, and the data analysis method employed is the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results indicate that fashion motivation has a positive and significant effect on fashion consciousness, fashion motivation has a positive and significant effect on fashion consumption, and fashion consciousness has a positive and significant effect on fashion consumption. Moreover, fashion motivation positively and significantly influences consumption through fashion consciousness as a mediating variable. On the other hand, religiosity does not have a positive or significant effect on fashion consciousness, fashion consumption, or fashion consumption through fashion consciousness as a mediating variable. The limitations of this study are as follows: the research uses only four variables, namely fashion motivation, religiosity, fashion consciousness, and fashion consumption. Additionally, the data collection technique solely relies on online questionnaire distribution, making it impossible for the researcher to monitor the respondents during the questionnaire completion process directly. Lastly, the study is confined to the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business at Muhammadiyah University. Keywords: Fashion Consciousness; Fashion consumption; Motivation fashion; Religiosity

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the dynamics of religious discourse in Indonesia during the COVID-19 crisis, focusing on how ideological contestations reflect shifting meanings and religious authority within the digital public sphere. The study employs a qualitative approach using library research and Foucauldian critical discourse analysis, combined with content and comparative analysis of responses from major Islamic institutions such as the MUI, Nahdlatul Ulama, and Muhammadiyah. The theoretical framework draws on Michel Foucault's concept of discourse and power, along with John Storey's theory of cultural ideology. The findings reveal that the pandemic triggered three ideological spectrums of religious response—conservative, moderate, and progressive—each representing distinct theological stances toward worship, public health policy, and religious legitimacy. Social media emerged as a new arena of authority, where digital religious narratives often surpassed institutional fatwas in influence. The study concludes that the pandemic acted as a catalyst for the transformation of religious discourse, with long-term implications for the relationship between religion, state, and civil society in the digital era. It recommends more participatory, adaptive, and collaborative religious communication strategies to strengthen social cohesion and religious moderation in post-crisis contexts. Keywords: social crisis; religious discourse; religious ideology; digital authority; Foucault, pandemic

Abstract

Interreligious relations require wisdom to foster social harmony. Interfaith dialogue is an essential effort in achieving this goal. This study extends previous discourses by elaborating on the concept of fiqh al-harmony (jurisprudence of harmony) as developed by Shaykh Wasil, analyzed through Jasser Auda’s framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Employing a qualitative, library-based method with both conceptual and historical approaches, this research explores the contributions of Shaykh Wasil, a 12th-century Persian scholar who came to Kediri at the invitation of King Jayabaya. Through his work Musarar, he promoted Islam using a harmony-based approach. When analyzed through Auda’s six features of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, Shaykh Wasil’s jurisprudence of harmony reveals significant relevance: cognitive nature classifies it within political jurisprudence (fiqh al-siyāsah); wholeness emphasizes conflict resolution through a comprehensive framework; openness integrates jurisprudence with Sufism, positive law, and the sociology of law; interrelated hierarchy identifies his harmonious da‘wah strategy as a manifestation of both maqāṣid al-ummah and maqāṣid al-insāniyyah; multi-dimensionality fosters common ground in interreligious conflict; and purposefulness demonstrates that his ultimate aim was to promote Islam as a mercy for all creation. This model of fiqh emphasizes tolerance, honesty, and rationality as essential dimensions of religious life. Keywords: Jurisprudence of harmony; Jasser Auda; Maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah; Shaykh Wasil; Religious tolerance

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze marriage practices among the Sundanese aristocracy (ménak) during the pre-independence period of Indonesia, focusing on their relationship to social status, power, and wealth. The research explores socio-economic motivations underlying marriage practices that often transcended love or religious devotion, functioning instead as instruments for consolidating authority and sustaining elite lineage. The study employs a library research method with content and descriptive analysis approaches. Data were collected from historical literature, customary law sources, and anthropological studies, and were validated through corroboration analysis by comparing data across multiple references. The findings reveal that marriages among the Sundanese nobles served as strategic tools for preserving noble bloodlines, strengthening political alliances, and maintaining family power and economic stability. Practices such as early arranged marriages, polygamy, and politically motivated unions were integral to this socio-cultural system. Culturally, marriage symbolized honor and the legitimization of social hierarchy within traditional Sundanese society. The study recommends further research on the evolution of marriage values and practices among contemporary Sundanese communities within the framework of modernity and gender equality. Keywords: Sundanese aristocracy, customary marriage, social status, power, patriarchal culture

Abstract

Masjid Istiqlal TV (MITV), the official YouTube channel of the Istiqlal Mosque, aims to promote Islamic teachings through digital media. However, its content remains conventional and monotonous, failing to engage modern audiences. This study investigates the limited reach of MITV’s content and explores strategies to optimize its digital communication. Employing a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm, data were collected through content observation, YouTube Analytics analysis, and in-depth interviews with the Director of Istiqlal’s Media Development Institute. The findings reveal that 63% of MITV videos document routine religious activities with static production styles and minimal adaptation to audience preferences. Creative limitations are shaped by bureaucratic structures, institutional norms, and a lack of professional digital expertise. Academically, this study contributes to the discourse on digital religion and media logic by highlighting the structural tension between institutional authority and participatory digital culture within state religious institutions. Practically, it recommends transforming content formats, enhancing audience research, and fostering creative collaborations within institutional boundaries to make MITV more dynamic, engaging, and competitive in the contemporary digital da’wah landscape. Keywords: Istiqlal Mosque TV, digital da’wah, media logic, audience, religious institution, content transformation

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has accelerated the emergence of Islamic Education Technology (Islamic EdTech) as an innovation in Islamic education that provides wider access, improved effectiveness, and interactive learning experiences. However, its application faces ideological challenges, particularly the potential for hidden secularization through the separation of religious and general sciences, the adoption of Western pedagogical standards, and the dominance of digital algorithms. This study aims to analyze the potential secularization within Islamic EdTech in Indonesia by employing a qualitative descriptive method based on document analysis and in-depth interviews with teachers, platform developers, and academics. Data were thematically analyzed using NVivo software, supported by source and method triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that although Islamic EdTech successfully enhances learning access and motivation among younger generations, there is a tendency toward reducing Islamic teachings to cognitive aspects, neutralizing religious terminology, and shaping business-oriented platforms that treat Islamic values as mere symbolic labels. Therefore, content curation involving scholars, collaboration with Islamic educational institutions, and the establishment of Sharia-based ethical guidelines for technology use, including artificial intelligence, are essential. With these strategic measures, Islamic EdTech has the potential not only to modernize Islamic learning but also to function as a medium of Islamization of knowledge while strengthening Islamic identity amid the challenges of educational globalization. Keywords: Islamic Ed-tech, Islamic Education, Secularization

Abstract

This study investigates the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital learning as a key innovation for advancing 21st-century education within the context of Society 5.0. Using a descriptive-exploratory mixed-methods approach, the research integrates both qualitative and quantitative data: a comprehensive literature review and a survey of 183 educators, including teachers, supervisors, and madrasah principals. Findings reveal that although awareness of AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and adaptive learning platforms) is moderate, consistent application in classrooms remains limited, with only 27.2% of educators frequently using such technologies. Major challenges identified include insufficient infrastructure, limited professional development, and a lack of confidence in integrating AI tools effectively. Despite these barriers, most educators acknowledge AI's potential to enhance learning effectiveness, personalize instruction, and streamline administrative tasks. The study concludes that successful AI integration requires targeted strategies, including sustained teacher training, equitable access to digital infrastructure, clear ethical guidelines, and institutional support. Rather than replacing educators, AI should be positioned as a complementary tool that enhances pedagogical practices and strengthens human-centered learning. These findings contribute to the broader discourse on digital transformation in education, offering practical insights for policymakers, school leaders, and educators aiming to leverage AI-driven innovations to equip students with critical 21st-century competenciesKeywords: Artificial Intelligence; Digital Learning; 21st-Century Education; Educational Innovation; Teacher Training; Society 5.0

Abstract

This study aims to explore models of the relationship between religion and the state in the Indonesian context by examining the thoughts of two prominent moderate Muslim intellectuals: Nurcholish Madjid and Abdurrahman Wahid. Utilizing a qualitative method through library research and content analysis, this study analyzes academic literature, ideological interpretations, and the socio-political historical context of Indonesia. The findings reveal three prevailing approaches: the integralistic, the secularistic, and the ethical-substantive model. Both Madjid and Wahid advocate for the ethical-substantive approach, which promotes justice, freedom, and deliberation within a democratic framework, without turning religion into a state ideology. The study concludes that their moderate perspectives are highly relevant for maintaining a balance between religious spirituality and state rationality in a pluralistic society. It is recommended that this ethical-substantive approach be adopted in public policy formulation and inclusive civic education in Indonesia. Keywords: Religion; State; Democracy; Ethical-Substantive Approach; Indonesia.
