Abstract

Teacher performance is a primary determinant of instructional quality, while principals shape school outcomes through managerial competence and motivational drive. This study examines the partial and joint effects of principal managerial competence and principal motivation on teacher performance and identifies the dominant predictor at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang. Using a quantitative correlational design with a census approach (N=30 teachers), data were collected via a closed-ended five-point Likert questionnaire. All items met validity criteria (item–total r > .444, α=.05, two-tailed) and showed acceptable reliability (α=.791–.887). Assumption checks indicated normal residuals (Kolmogorov–Smirnov p=.200), no multicollinearity (tolerance=.419; VIF=2.388), and homoskedasticity (random scatterplot). Multiple regression revealed significant positive effects of both predictors on teacher performance: managerial competence (β=.755; t=9.015; p<.001) and principal motivation (β=.250; t=2.982; p=.006). The model explained a large share of variance (R²=.921; Adj. R²=.915) and was jointly significant, F (2,27) =156.621; p<.001). Findings indicate managerial competence is the dominant predictor; therefore, strengthening data-driven planning, role clarity, decision protocols, and monitoring–evaluation cycles linked to academic supervision should be integrated with fair, inclusive motivational mechanisms. Limitations include the cross-sectional, single-site design, small sample, and self-report measures. Future research should adopt multi-site, longitudinal, and multi-source designs and test mediators (e.g., teacher motivation/school climate) and moderators (e.g., tenure/certification) to deepen and generalize these conclusions.

Abstract

This study evaluates the integrated Pancasila Student Profile Project (P5) and Islamic Personal Development (BPI) at SDIT Al-Furqon Palembang as a whole-school character strategy. A qualitative field design combined observation, interviews, and document review; data were analyzed with Miles Huberman procedures and Edwards’ implementation factors. P5 operated co-curricularly (Entrepreneurship & Sustainable Lifestyle themes; 8 periods on Fridays) through an introduction, contextualization, action reflection follow-up sequence; BPI ran routinely via character mentoring, Friday Muhasabah, and a Night Study Club. A four-level rubric integrated formative and summative evidence. Findings show gains in ethics toward nature/others, discipline and responsibility, collaboration, creativity/innovation, critical reasoning, and religious conduct. Enablers included strong communication, adequate human/material resources, positive leadership, clear SOPs/KOSP, parent partnerships, and up-front budgeting; time and initial reference gaps were the main constraints. The P5 BPI model is effective and sustainable; recommended next steps are stronger formative coaching, teacher PD in project design/assessment, formalized parent/community roles, and digitized portfolios.

Abstract

Moderate Islamic education with a tolerant curriculum amidst diversity is crucial in shaping a generation that not only understands religious teachings but also values social and cultural differences. In Indonesia, which is rich in pluralism, the development of an Islamic education curriculum that prioritizes moderation and tolerance is a key challenge in fostering social peace. This study aims to recommend a model for designing Islamic education curricula that instills values of moderation, interfaith tolerance, and respect for differences. The approach used in this study is qualitative, with a library research method, relying on the collection of relevant literature to explore the concepts and best practices in moderate curriculum design. The results of the study indicate that an Islamic education curriculum that emphasizes moderation and tolerance must integrate materials on religious pluralism, apply dialogical and collaborative teaching methods, and include assessments based on attitudes of tolerance toward differences. Additionally, the curriculum should prioritize teaching universal values such as peace, justice, and mutual respect. Collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and society is essential to realizing an adaptive, inclusive Islamic education curriculum that can create a more peaceful and harmonious society amidst diversity.

Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers' strategies in implementing religious moderation in thematic learning at Al-Azhar Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah (MI) and Madaiyyah Senduro Madrasah Aliyah (MAS). Religious moderation, as a balanced, tolerant, anti-violent, and nation-oriented religious attitude, is very important to be instilled from an early age through formal education. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation studies, then analysed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results showed that teachers at MI Al-Azhar used concrete experience-based strategies, such as storytelling, collaborative games, and daily prayer habits, to instil the values of tolerance and togetherness. Meanwhile, teachers at MAS Madaiyyah developed strategies for thematic discussions, case studies, and self-reflection that encourage students to think critically and reflect on religious moderation. The obstacles encountered include teachers' limited understanding of religious moderation, a dense curriculum, and the negative influence of social media. However, supporting factors such as madrasah policies, teacher role models, and the local socio-cultural context contributed to the success of the implementation. This study emphasises the importance of the role of teachers as agents of moderation through thematic learning, as well as the need to strengthen teacher capacity and learning innovation to shape a moderate generation in an era of diversity.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of transformative pedagogy in building equitable access to national education in Indonesia. Transformative pedagogy, rooted in the thought of Paulo Freire, emphasizes education as a liberatory process that fosters critical consciousness and social justice. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design, through document analysis of national education policies, in-depth interviews with teachers, principals and education office officials, and triangulation of data from various sources. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques with reference to Critical Pedagogy theory (Freire, 1970) and Social Justice Theory (Rawls, 1971). The results show that national policies such as Merdeka Belajar have reflected the spirit of inclusiveness, but have not fully realized the transformation of social awareness in educational practice. Teachers have not played an optimal role as agents of change because the education system is still hierarchical and oriented towards academic achievement. This research concludes that equal access to education can only be realized through the synergy between social justice policy reform and the application of liberating transformative pedagogy. The integration of the two is an important foundation for an inclusive, humanist and transformative national education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services with systematic desensitization techniques in reducing public speaking anxiety in junior high school students. This study uses a quantitative approach with the quasi-experiment one-group pre-test post-test design method. The participants of this study were grade VIII students of Junior High School in Medan, with a sample of 7 students. The sample was recruited using a purposive sampling technique based on the criteria of students who experienced high speech anxiety. The intervention was carried out through 4 group counseling sessions adjusted to systematic desensitization techniques. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test led to a decrease in the average score from 74.14 to 57.14 with an Asymp significance value. Sig (2-tailed) is 0.018. This proves that group counseling with systematic decentralization techniques can reduce public speaking anxiety in junior high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how the roles of parents and educators are formed, as well as the obstacles faced in the development of non-academic achievement of students with special needs in extraordinary schools. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study type. The subjects of this study are parents and educators. Data collection uses interviews, observation, and documentation techniques with researchers as the main instruments. The data analysis methods used are Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which include the process of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions drawn. Data validity is used to triangulate data and conduct member checking. The results of the study show that parents play an important role in the development of children's non-academic achievements. This role is shown through several involvements, namely parenting (understanding children's characteristics, providing direction, motivation, and creating an environment that supports children's achievements), communicating (communicating with the school about children's development and needs, in non-academic fields), volunteering (providing emotional support, motivation, and being actively involved in children's non-academic activities), learning at home (accompanying children to learn and practice at home and doing collaboration with educators to provide supervision), decision making (decision-making related to children's non-academic achievement through collaboration with schools and external parties), and collaboration with community (collaboration with schools and communities to support children's activities and development). The role of educators includes several points, namely Mentor (providing extracurricular programs and collaboration with external coaches to assist students in the development of students' non-academic achievements), facilitators (providing resources, training facilities, and learning methods tailored to students' needs), collaborators (collaborating with parents of fellow educators, external institutions such as NPCs and coaches to support student training and development),  and motivator (providing motivation, emotional support, and individualized guidance to students).
