Abstract

This study aims to develop literacy teaching materials based on local wisdom for upper-grade elementary school students as a means of supporting the School Literacy Movement. The research addresses the gap in the availability of teaching materials that integrate local wisdom values, particularly in the Kuningan region, which are essential for promoting holistic literacy development. Literacy materials rooted in Kuningan’s local wisdom are crucial, as they enhance students’ understanding by presenting content closely related to their daily lives, such as local culture, traditions, and values. This development research was conducted at SDN 1 Ciloa, SDN Sukaraja, and MI PUI Cilimus in Kuningan. The development process adopted the Joli and Bolitho models, which include stages of needs identification, needs exploration, contextual realization, pedagogical realization, physical production, testing, and product evaluation. Data collection involved both qualitative methods—such as interviews and observations—and quantitative methods from questionnaires and tests. The results reveal four key findings. First, the existing literacy materials do not meet students' needs in terms of design and content. Second, the developed materials are comprehensive, addressing linguistic, cognitive, and socio-cultural dimensions while incorporating complete teaching components. Third, feasibility tests—both theoretical (conducted by experts) and empirical (involving teachers and students)—indicate that the materials are appropriate for use. Fourth, effectiveness testing shows that the materials are effective when implemented in classroom learning. Thus, the developed literacy teaching materials based on local wisdom are not only feasible but also effective in enhancing literacy learning among elementary students in Kuningan.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the form of struggle values contained in Ratih Kumala's novel and its use for literature learning in vocational schools. This study analyzes namely Gadis Kretek' and Saga dari Samudra.  Type of research is literary research with a descriptive analytical method. The instrument in this study is the researcher herself. Data analysis is classifying data on struggle values in Ratih Kumala's novel, analyzing data, interpreting data, and compiling a learning design device for literary teaching materials. Based on the data analysis that has been done, two things can be concluded as follows. First, there are all indicators of the value of struggle in the novel Gadis Kretek by Ratih Kumala. The most dominant value in Gadis Kretek is the value of patience and unyielding spirit. Meanwhile, in the novel Saga dari Samudra, there are four values of struggle.  The most dominant value in the novel Saga dari Samudra is the value of self-sacrifice. There are more values of struggle in the novel Gadis Kretek than in the novel Saga dari Samudra because the novel Gadis Kretek has a plot that predominantly depicts the characters' struggles in life. Second, the value of struggle in the novel by Ratih Kumala is closely related to life problems so that it can be utilized in literature learning, one of which is learning novel texts in class XII SMA / SMK. The utilization of struggle values is done by integrating struggle values as extrinsic elements in a novel.

Abstract

The development of students' scientific writing skills remains a significant challenge in vocational high schools, where conventional teaching materials often fail to accommodate students' technological learning preferences. This study aims to analyze the needs for developing web-based teaching materials to enhance the scientific writing skills of eleventh-grade vocational students. Utilizing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model framework, this study involved two vocational school teachers and sixty eleventh-grade students in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected through teacher interviews and student questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively. The findings revealed that 63% of students experienced difficulties in scientific writing due to limited understanding of formal writing techniques, structuring arguments, and lack of digital learning resources. Teachers indicated the necessity for contextualized and interactive web-based learning platforms that align with the differentiated learning approach of the Curriculum Merdeka. Furthermore, over 80% of students expressed a preference for digital and interactive learning environments to improve their engagement and writing competence. The study concludes that the development of web-based portable-E teaching materials is essential to bridge the gap between students' needs and current teaching practices. The proposed innovation not only addresses students' difficulties in writing but also promotes independent learning, enhances digital literacy, and supports the achievement of curriculum goals. These findings offer valuable insights for future instructional material design and educational technology integration in vocational education contexts.

Abstract

Many authors use the theme of human rights in literature to highlight and address social issues. Similarly, Leila S. Chudori explores human rights violations in her novels Pulang (2012), Laut Bercerita (2017), and Namaku Alam (2023). This study analyzes the depiction of human rights abuses in these works as reflections of social realities during Indonesia's New Order era, employing new historicism theory. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through reading, recording, and literature review. To ensure validity, semantic checks were applied, while reliability was confirmed through intrarater and interrater methods. Data analysis combined archaeological method and thick description techniques. The findings reveal that Chudori's novels effectively depict various human rights violations experienced during the New Order period,  such as political imprisonment, enforced disappearances, censorship, or state violence to give readers a clearer understanding of the study's scope offering critical insight into the era's social and political context. This study contributes by illuminating how Indonesian literary narratives reinterpret New Order history, thereby bridging historical memory dan cultural expression.

Abstract

Phonological ability reflects the perceptual and cognitive mechanisms required for children to learn and produce speech. This study aims to map phonological processes in early childhood at PAUD institutions in Tasikmalaya. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected from 315 children aged 4–6 years (77 aged 4, 148 aged 5, and 90 aged 6) across five schools: RA Baiturrahman, TK Negeri Pembina, TK Cangkurileung Kartika IX-10, TK IT Ihya As-Sunah, and Joykids. Speech samples in Indonesian were obtained through recordings of both structured and conversational speech. Data validity was ensured through expert judgment, and analysis followed the stages of data reduction, display, and verification. Results show that assimilation was the most dominant phonological process for both vowels and consonants across all ages. For vowels, assimilation declined with age (9 cases at age 4, 7 at age 5, and 3 at age 6), while addition (4 → 2 → 2) and substitution (3 → 0 → 1) were less frequent. Consonant assimilation was more prevalent (62 → 71 → 27), with gliding substitution (13 → 5 → 0) and general substitution (4 → 2 → 0) steadily decreasing. Sound addition appeared only at age 6 (3 cases). These findings indicate that vowel mastery stabilizes earlier, while consonant mastery involves more complex developmental processes. The study provides baseline data for identifying phonological difficulties early and offers guidance for PAUD teachers to recognize ongoing phonological processes beyond age six as possible signs of language delay.

Abstract

A fundamental gap between the demand for multimodal communication competence in the digital era and conventional, text-centric writing pedagogy in higher education was the foundational problem for this research. This study investigated the effectiveness of an integrated learning model, combining Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Digital Storytelling (DST), as a solution to simultaneously enhance students' creative narrative writing skills and multimodal communication competence. The research employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design involving 60 Indonesian Language and Literature Education students, divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The results demonstrated a statistically significant advantage for the experimental group, which exhibited substantially greater improvement in creative narrative writing skills (t(58) = 20.45, p < .001) and achieved superior multimodal communication competence scores (t(58) = 16.98, p < .001) compared to the control group. The study concluded that the integration of PjBL and DST is an effective and robust pedagogical intervention for equipping students with holistic literacy skills relevant to the 21st century, successfully bridging traditional writing practices with contemporary digital communication demands.

Abstract

Reframing Mbok Delima in the Osing-Javanese folktale Panji Gimawang through a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) lens, this study reveals her obscured expertise in agriculture and food security and challenges the patriarchal bias of traditional storytelling. Using Todorov’s narrative sequence, equilibrium, disruption, recognition, repair, and new equilibrium, The researcher demonstrates how Mbok Delima can be repositioned as the primary agent safeguarding food sovereignty. We propose a portable rewriting framework that blends gender analysis, social-inclusion metrics, and pedagogical strategies. Although rooted in a Javanese case, the framework is transferable across Southeast Asia: comparable agrarian heroines such as Mae Posop (Thailand), can likewise be reinterpreted to amplify women’s roles in local food systems. By aligning with ASEAN principles of respect, peace, prosperity, diversity, and human-rights protection, as well as the ASEAN Integrated Food Security Framework 2025, this study positions folktale revision as a regional strategy for promoting progressive gender dynamics, inclusive cultural discourse, and resilient food security.

Abstract

Atheis is a novel by Achdiat K. Mihardja published by Balai Pustaka in 1949. There are many studies on this novel. This proves that the novel Atheis is interesting and important to study. This research is a qualitative research using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis approach which emphasizes the important role of the unconscious mind in shaping human behavior and experience. The main elements in this theory are motivation, emotion and other aspects of personality. The results show that the novel Atheis contains many religious elements, especially in terms of Sufiistic aspects. In the novel Atheis, the main character, Hasan, experiences an inner debate when he meets his friend, Rusli, who adheres to the ideology of Marxism. As a result, he experiences an inner war between Marxism and Islam. on the other hand, it is depicted that the main character has a strong commitment to religion. Religious commitment is depicted in the story which includes various aspects, ranging from aspects of belief, aspects of practice, aspects of knowledge, aspects of experience, and aspects of consequences. Based on the five aspects, the knowledge aspect is the aspect that appears most often because it is owned and mastered by the characters.

Abstract

This study investigates the representation of cidra (heartbreak or betrayal of promise) and the construction of Javanese masculinity in Didi Kempot’s song lyrics through a sociopragmatic approach. Drawing on seven songs from four albums, the analysis proceeds in three steps: (1) segmenting the lyrics into expressive speech acts, (2) interpreting them through affective cultural scripts, and (3) situating the findings within masculinity discourses. The results reveal a tripartite model of male emotionality: (1) loyalty and patience that affirm Javanese cultural values, (2) emotional fragility expressed through crying and complaint, which challenges the script of stoic masculinity, and (3) resignation (lilo) as a culturally sanctioned coping mechanism. These dimensions converge into the concept of hybrid masculinity, which reconciles normative ideals with emotional expressions previously deemed inappropriate for Javanese men. Theoretically, this study contributes a sociopragmatic framework for analyzing emotional speech acts in non-Western contexts and positions popular music not only as a reflection but also as a site for reshaping gender norms. Practically, it demonstrates how Didi Kempot’s songs function as a form of collective cultural therapy, offering insights for culturally sensitive approaches to men’s mental health.

Abstract

Japanese language education in Indonesia faces critical challenges in intermediate grammar instruction regarding alignment with international standards, active learning integration, and digital resource availability. This study evaluates existing intermediate Japanese grammar materials against JF Standard requirements and develops a practical framework for creating digital resources. Employing design-based research methodology, this study analyzed materials from 10 Indonesian universities, conducted needs analysis surveys with 105 intermediate learners, developed the "Nihongo with Irma Sensei" prototype, and validated materials through expert evaluation and field testing. Findings reveal substantial gaps: 0% inclusion of JF Standard components (Can-do statements, communicative competence frameworks, learner portfolios), 15% active learning integration, and 8% digital availability. Field testing showed 96% participant interest in digital materials and 96.1% acknowledged enhanced comprehension. The study identifies five best practices: contextualized presentation through multimedia, interactive exercises with immediate feedback, multimodal approaches, strict JF Standard alignment, and user-centered design. This research demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of JF Standard-aligned digital materials leveraging multimedia technologies to facilitate contextualized and communicative language learning.
