Abstract

This article aims to describe the improvement of learning outcomes in writing descriptive poetry using the inshot application based on local wisdom in students. The research was conducted at MAN 2 Cianjur on April 14, 2025 - April 28, 2025. The population taken was all class X students at MAN 2 Cianjur, totaling 311 students with a sample class X1 for the experimental group consisted of 29 students and class X5 for the control group consisted of 29 students. All were taken by random sampling. The instrument used was a test sheet with data analysis that began with the creation of scoring guidelines, calculating DSS and DSK, and calculating the average value which was then ended with statistical analysis through SPSS for hypothesis testing and N-Gain testing to determine the increase in learning outcomes. The findings were obtained in the form of a significant increase in the average value in the post-test of the experimental class with an average value of 95 with a Classical Absorption Power (DSK) of 97% when compared to the average value in the post-test of the control class which only got an average value of 58 with a Classical Absorption Power (DSK) of 0%. In the results of the hypothesis test through the Man-Whitney data test, the Asymp.sig value was obtained. (2-tailed) 0.000 <0.05 significance level, then H0 was rejected while H1 was accepted which was supported by the results of the N-Gain test of the post-test of the experimental class with an averageN-GainThe score of 0.8963 is in the high category compared to the control class post-test which was only 0.5883 in the medium category, so it can be concluded that there is a difference in the form of increased student learning outcomes in writing descriptive poetry using the local wisdom-based inshot application.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the personality structure and defense mechanisms of the characters in the film Semusim Setelah Kemarau by Dyan Sunu Prastowo using a literary psychology approach based on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. This theory highlights the interaction between the id, ego, and superego in shaping individual behavior and the role of self-defense mechanisms in dealing with mental stress. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through observation of scenes, dialogues, and expressions of the characters in the film. The results show that each of the main characters, Kaldera, Papa Kaldera, Handaru, and Mama Kaldera, has a different personality structure and displays complex psychological dynamics. The most dominant forms of self-defense mechanisms include repression, rationalization, projection, regression, and sublimation. Kaldera, as the central character, shows intense inner conflict due to childhood trauma and a strained relationship with his father. In addition, the results of this study are implemented in the lesson plan (RPP) for Indonesian Language subjects, specifically in the material analyzing characters, plots, and conflicts in narrative texts or films. The lesson plan (RPP) that was prepared emphasized film-based learning activities that train students to analyze the character's personality structure, identify self-defense mechanisms, and understand internal conflicts in the story. The learning implementation plan for the defense mechanisms and dynamics of the characters in the film Semusim Setelah Kemarau by Dyan Sunu Prastowo uses the constructivist approach of Needham's five-phase model through a Google form containing four initial activities, 15 core activities, and two final activities.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest in reading among early childhood children, the use of less engaging learning media, and the dominance of conventional storybooks that only display static text and images without considering children's diverse learning styles. This study aims to determine the feasibility of validating the development of multimodality-based picture storybooks with an educational game approach in early childhood language learning. This research uses a quantitative descriptive design. From the perspective of data sources, this study uses a library method. Data on multimodality-based picture storybooks with an educational game approach in early childhood language learning were collected using observation guidelines, instruments assisted by checklists. Validation was carried out by each of a material expert, a media expert, and an early childhood education practitioner on eight aspects of feasibility, namely material content, multimodality, language, educational games, visual appearance, accessibility, local cultural integration, and holistic aspects. The validation results showed a total score of 90 out of a maximum score of 96, which, after being converted to 94%, is included in the very valid category or can be used without revision. Thus, this multimodality-based picture story book with an educational game approach in early childhood language learning is declared very suitable for use in language learning for children aged 5-6 years in PAUD because it fulfills the elements of content, visual, educational, and cultural contextual suitability, and children's development needs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the themes of waiting and uncertainty in the short story “Rencana Satu Kereta Bersama W Mabelle” by Aravayana, using a formalist and Freudian psychological approach. The formalist approach identifies intrinsic elements such as structure, plot, symbolism, and style, while the Freudian psychological approach explores the personality aspects of the main character through the concepts of the Id, Ego, and Super-ego. This research is conducted qualitatively by analyzing the text of the short story as the primary object. The results reveal that the themes of waiting and uncertainty are represented through symbols such as the "train" and "unread chat," symbolizing restrained communication and missed opportunities. The non-linear plot and poetic language strengthen the melancholic atmosphere of the story, depicting the main character's feelings trapped in uncertainty. From the perspective of Freudian psychology, the main character experiences a conflict between the Id, which seeks attention from W Mabelle, the Ego, which balances hope and reality, and the Super-ego, which considers the morality of the relationship. This study contributes to understanding contemporary Indonesian literature through an integrative analysis of formalism and psychology, providing a deeper interpretation of the emotional dynamics in literary works. However, this study is limited to intrinsic analysis and the internal conflicts of the main character, suggesting the need for further studies involving socio-cultural context to enrich the understanding of the themes explored.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms, functions, and communicative strategies of code-switching in the sermons of Syekh Muhammad Fathurahman in the Serambi Islami program on TVRI. The research was conducted in November 2024, analyzing three sermon episodes available on the official TVRI YouTube channel. The population of the study comprises all digital sermons delivered by Syekh Fathurahman, with purposive sampling of three topics: tauhid, fiqh, and tasawwuf. Data collection instruments included transcription guidelines and linguistic annotation sheets. The data were analyzed using content analysis and sociolinguistic discourse approaches. The findings reveal that the most dominant form of code-switching is intra-sentential, followed by inter-sentential and tag switching. Code-switching serves multiple functions: authoritative-referential (quoting sacred texts and classical scholars), didactic-scientific (clarifying Islamic terminology), rhetorical-aesthetic (enhancing speech style), and cultural-modernity (adapting language for urban audiences). This research concludes that code-switching is not merely a linguistic phenomenon but a deliberate, contextual, and strategic mode of religious communication. The study’s strength lies in its triangulated analysis combining linguistic form, frequency, and function. However, the limitation stems from the small number of sermon episodes analyzed. Future research is encouraged to explore rhetorical and multimodal dimensions of Islamic digital preaching.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of gadget usage duration on students’ reading interest at MI Muhammadiyah 16 Karangasem. The increasing use of gadgets among elementary school students may divert their attention from reading activities. A significant number of students tend to spend more time on gadgets than reading books, which potentially leads to a low level of reading interest. This research employed a quantitative approach with a survey design. The sample consisted of 87 students from grades 4 and 5, who were divided into three groups based on their gadget usage duration: high, medium, and low. The instruments used were questionnaires that measured gadget usage duration and the level of reading interest based on four indicators: enjoyment in reading, interest, attention, and engagement in reading. The data analysis techniques included validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using One-Way Anova. The results showed a significant difference in reading interest based on the duration of gadget usage. The calculated F value was 7.373 with a significance level of 0.001, indicating that gadget usage duration significantly affects students’ reading interest. The average reading interest score for students with low gadget usage duration was 73.75, for medium duration was 77.17, and for high duration was 71.21. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the higher the duration of gadget usage, the lower the students’ reading interest tends to be.

Abstract

This study examines the kind and purpose of code-switching and code-mixing in the video of The Indah G Show called “Indonesia’s Academic Dishonesty (‘Joki’), Lack of Merit & Moral Integrity ft. Abigail Limuria (WIUI)”. The data was obtained by selecting statements made by speakers in different instances of the video and transcribing them, followed by a qualitative analysis. The transcription was used as the primary tool, and the analysis was based on the frameworks introduced in Muysken (2000), Poplack (2001), Bullock, Toribio (2009), and Fromkin, Rodman, & Hyams (2014) that considered code-switching and other types of code-mixing as a stratified linguistic strategy that appeared under the influence of context, identity, and meaning. In the seizure of 30 cases of code-switching (15 intra-sentential, 10 inter-sentential, and 5 tag-switching) and 26 cases of code-mixing (12 insertion, 8 alternation, and 6 congruent lexicalization) were found. Such patterns are indications of bilingual proficiency of the speakers as well as the strategic mixing of both English and Indonesian. The reasons are that English is spoken to achieve global or academic clarity, whereas Indonesian provides local cultural coloring and emotional expressivity. By such bilingual acts, the speakers express multilayered meanings, establish a rapport with various groups of people, and reflect their hybrid identities. The present research study shows that linguistic alternations in Indonesian-English dialogical practice not only transfer information through their use, but also entail their social and cultural positioning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the misuse of the Indonesian language in the online newspaper Pangkalpinangpost.com. The focus of the study includes spelling errors, punctuation errors, morphological and syntactic mistakes, as well as ineffective sentence construction. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis. Data were obtained from news articles on the online media portal selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed based on the Pedoman Umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia (PUEBI). The results show that numerous language errors are still found in the news published by Pangkalpinangpost.com. The most dominant errors include incorrect capitalization, improper use of punctuation, ineffective sentence structures, improper affixation, and syntactically incorrect sentences. The main causes of these errors are time pressure, limited linguistic knowledge of writers, and the absence of final editing before publication. In conclusion, online media must pay more attention to language quality in news writing to serve as a model for proper use of the Indonesian language. Language training for journalists and the involvement of qualified language editors are essential to improve the quality of information.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the grammatical errors found in explanatory texts written by eleventh-grade students of SMA Santo Petrus Medan in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research was conducted during the even semester, from January to June 2025. The population included all eleventh-grade students, with a sample of 90 texts selected from class XI using purposive sampling. Data collection instruments included written tests, documentation, and observation. The data analysis technique employed the distributional method (metode agih) by Sudaryanto, utilizing the basic technique of Immediate Constituent Analysis (BUL) along with advanced techniques such as deletion and substitution. The results show that the most dominant grammatical errors were found in the use of grammatical cohesion, particularly in reference and conjunction. Reference errors include unclear or contextually inappropriate pronouns, while conjunction errors include excessive use, improper choice, or absence of necessary connectors. Data were presented systematically with coded references to clearly identify each error and its context. These findings highlight the need for writing instruction that emphasizes discourse structure and grammatical cohesion to help students produce more coherent and effective texts.
